Ned was right when he said that Dale didn't give any quarter to other competitors on the track. I remember the first year Childress had 2 cars at Daytona, they asked Earnhardt how he felt about having a teammate. He said "I don't need a teammate, I'll wrinkle the fenders on that 31 just like any other car". I'm pretty sure he meant it.

I remember Darrell Waltrip saying Dale sent him a Christmas card every year. One year he didn't get one. When Darrell saw him he innocently asked if he was too busy or forgot not meaning anything by it. Dale told him "I don't have to send you a card every year" I remember Dale not being fond of having Skinner around. I use to go to the July race at Pocono . The one year Dale won. He had a fast car and so didn't Skinner . I remember Dale behind Skinner coming down the front straightaway . Dale was "drafting" Skinner. Ok ,it wasn't drafting , it was wheelbarrowing Skinner down the track. Dale was jammed up under Skinner and Skinners rear tires didn't touch the track until Dale let him go in turn one. I don't remember if Skinner made it out of turn one unscathed .

As a former Ballplayer - this is sage advice.... just play as hard as you can every single game. It will work out. I never saw him play (he was retired by the time I started) but Joe DiMaggio said it best when asked why he played so hard.... " There might be a fan out there that has never seen me play" That stuck with me & i was able to have a career that spanned 30 years . From fast pitch softball at 19 to a four state wood bat baseball league that I played my last game at age 49- & got a game winning hit on my last at - bat.

Dale, at some point, you have to produce a movie that is actually worthy of your dad (not that ESPN crap). A real production from the first hand stories about the legend that is your dad.
You have unselfishly allowed these stories to be shared with us the fans and it is much appreciated that you let us relive it with you. Thank you brother

I found -Dale- to be the most respectful/family oriented version of the Earnhardt Legacy. The ending..when Jr. made magic at Daytona, to me was the most powerful moment in all of racing cinema. It's about loss, hard work, looming fathers and sons clawing out from the shadows, redemption and the cost and sacrifices this family has made to the contributions to racing and their love for racing. I love everything Earnhardt and everything they represent.

    • @craigharrell7849
      @craigharrell7849 ปีที่แล้ว

@@FlagTheRef I guess I could have been more clear. I totally agree with everything you say. I was referring to the quality of the film. I felt like it was cheaply produced. I also felt Dale and nascar deserved a much better representation. Maybe that is a matter of copyrights when it comes to tracks and cars and such? I followed the man nearly his entire career and I have high expectations for anything that involves his name and what it stands for. I met him multiple times and even got his autograph a couple of times. I even bought the ESPN tin box set, after I watched it. That representation of his life is still very appreciated.

"Never leave a winner to go to a loser". This is advice that covers every sport! Doesn't matter about the money or the perks of whatever. Winning is winning as Vin Diesel said in the first Fast movie. Too many guys it seems in this day and age care little about winning, it seems to be about money and that's a bad direction for any athlete. You play to be the best in your sport. I also like the comment about Dale Sr saying he had no friends off the track. True, that stuff could wait til after retirement begins.

Because Dale represents a certain type of man from a bygone era. To a lot of fans, Dale was the embodiment of the old school - tough as a boot and will grab you by your neck and lump you up if you step too far outta line. To a lot of modern people, he represents the quintessential southern father - 10ft tall, good at a lot of things, and was a little too hard on his children. But at the same time he molded those children into the respectable people they are today.
Kyle Busch looks like he’s never lifted anything heavier than 30 lbs in his entire life and he’d shatter if you punched him.

Thats a cool story and all but I dont really agree with any of it. Earnhardt stayed with RCR until his death. And they really stopped being an elite team when the multicar teams started getting really popular in the mid 90s. RCR was late to the party. RCR was dominate from the mid 80s to the mid 90s and post 1996 RCR has had what I would call dominate seasons maybe four times since. So Earnhardnt either didnt see the writing on the wall that RCR had fallen behind or he was so loyal to Richard he didnt care. Then you have Yost. He left a winner in Milwaukee (83-67) to go to a loser Kansas City (55-72) and helped turn KC into World Series Champions. You go to where you see potential. I think Earnhardt to DEI in 1999 would have been awesome. And yes I'm aware of the outstanding year Earnhardt had in 2000 with RCR. Also what a interesting story line for the sport. Even better just had RCR merge with DEI. Put all of those resources together. Have Dale SR and Dale Jr in one garage and have Steve Park and Mike Skinner in the other. Skinner would probably leave regardless and that still leaves a place for Michael Waltrip in 2001

Dale Sr's first race car was a 1956 pink Ford.

Can't tell you how many times I have heard... 2nd place is the FIRST loser.

I enjoyed this guy's stories about Sr, but I had know idea who he was as I was watching the video. Full disclosure, I don't follow baseball. Thus, I had to look him up.

There's no doubt he was a hard ass but he was more. He was certainly The Intimidator, but he died blocking for his son and Mikey. There's no doubt if he could have passed them he would have but if not he was going to make sure they won.

The more I watch this podcast the more I’m convinced that Ricky Bobby is loosely based on Dale Sr

Its crazy the more and more I listen to interviews about Sr, and then on the flip side watch Kyle Busch be interviewed, the similarities that stick out.

“Second place is the FIRST LOSER.”
The constant effort to always go for the win, and have error-free execution in all that you do. It was Dale Earnhardt’s MANTRA that we should all strive for…

Happy birthday Dale Junior. Don't ever go to a loser knowing your dad Dale Earnhardt Senior is a winner in a Chevrolet race car.

But Dale left Bud Moore and a team that was winning races for RCR at a time they hadn’t won many races.
