I actually love his armada tank mod is have some really cool colors and dark design and i love his energon jet mod,i know its kinda heavy but still stand for now days imo and the chad of the chads to me is cybertron megatron because of his colors and car-jet mod to be honest
The Unicron trilogy had some of the best Megatron designs imo because they were all so different from his traditional look, but somehow still managed to feel appropriate to Megatron as a character. When I first saw his design in Cybertron I didn't really care for it, but when he was recolored as Galvatron it instantly became one of my absolute favorites.
Agreed. The armada tank looks imposing, full of gimmicks and firepower. Energon is a bit more sleek yet still looks dangerous, and toy wise I frankly love how he transforms. Cybertron is way more extravagant and in universe more sorta of energy/magic advanced than firepower or weaponry but did still have a few of those. Car mode very batmobile kinda look and while the jet isnt quite so elegant it was nice being a triple changer.
I Agree that the Unicron Trilogy Megatrons had good designs. Armada had that great H-Tank with base play for the mini-cons. Energon Had a fun to swoosh spaceship mode and a fun little tank drone based off of his Armada vehicle to be his arm cannon/sword scheme was so-so and looked better IMO when he got the Galvatron repaint)

Thinking of RID Megatron's hand mode just gave me an idea. Wouldn't it be cool to have some sort of super combiner, so instead of 1 guy turning into an arm,then sticking a hand on, 1 guy turns into an upper arm, one turns into a forearm and then a smaller guy turns in to a hand (x2),then the same thing with legs; 1 guy turns into the upper leg, one turns into the lower leg, one turns into the foot, then perhaps 2 larger guys combine as the torso, and then a final guy turns into the head It'd be massive, but it'd be epic.
There’s something very funny about the Legends comic writers going “We need a Green Megatron!” and instead of going with G2 Megatron they instead chose to repurpose a Ratchet figure.
I have never been a fan of G1 Megatron's original gun mode. You mentioned how silly it is to have Starscream hold him and that's true, but I've also just felt size changing was too much of a cheat to justify certain alt modes. I much prefer the recent tank focus for G1 Megatron - Megatron in Transformers Devastation is pretty much perfect in terms of look and alt mode.
To me, Megatron is the best out of the core four Transformers entirely because he’s the one who’s allowed to be the most different and experimental, both as a character and as a design.
I think the unicron trilogy has the most solid design philosophy. Armada Megatron is armed to the teeth with all sorts of hidden weaponry, fitting for a tyrannical warlord who has been fighting for millions of years. Prepared for every encounter and every battle. Energon Megatron was him rebuilt into a new form by himself with no restrictions. He basically looks like what the Armada Megatron would imagine the ruler of the galaxy to look like. Wings, tons of weaponry and a crown. Cybertron Megatron is the culmination of the entire Unicron Trilogy. After being in contact with Unicron for the entire duration of Energon, it would make sense that he would finally complete the fusion. He is the ultimate Dark Lord, the Emperor of Destruction often referenced by the japanese transformers series, and is no mere mortal transformer.
This is such a good take. Unicron trilogy Megatron always felt like an especially egotistical version of the character, so it only makes sense that he would constantly be upgrading himself to be as powerful as possible, especially with his connection to Unicron in Energon / Cybertron.
Too be fair, Cybertron Megatron shouldn't even be considered the same as Armada/Energon Megatron. This analysis is really good, but just doesn't stand considering the unicron "trilogy" itself
I still think it's kind of crazy that it took until 2019 for Megatron to finally get a toy that I'd consider a really logical standard for him- voyager class, tank mode, G1 colors and design, no gimmicks. Siege was the first time all that actually came together in one toy. He's had figures with most of that, but in deluxe class or leader class, his Titan's Return version was a gimmick-heavy headmaster/triplechanger/Blitzwing mold, he had a Cloud version that was close, but with Bludgeon's samurai look, and other versions were either not a tank or not g1 colors. And even with Siege, he technically wasn't an earth tank, so 2020's Earthrise version would arguably be an even more logical standard (I personally prefer the Siege mold, though). On another note, I really like how they handled the recent Core class Megatron. The tank barrel detaching to become a version of his original gun mode was a brilliant idea. Also I vote Soundwave to be next in line for this kind of video.
I think if there's at least one more character this can be done with, that's Soundwave. With how the guy clearly was originally a cassette player, there's been way too many attempts to reinvent him while keeping his looks partially.
tank will always be the definitive megs altmode for me, it’s what i grew up with and it still fits the character perfectly, even lending to some pretty natural conversions when they can be bothered

There was actually one bit of fiction with the devil ostrich, it appears in a legends tie in manga that was a sequel to the unite warriors tie in mangas. I don't remember which one it's specifically in, but it is there because of course legends referenced the ostrich.
Sorry for being pedantic, but the Mega Drive is not the Genesis "in the West", but just in North America (USA and Canada). In the rest of the world it's still the Mega Drive.

During Microchange it was even advertised as being associated with the TV program.
Presumably the attachments made the gun more dangerous in the same way that all the stuff hanging off of KITT's "Super Pursuit Mode" in Knight Rider made it faster.
I was expecting the flying crab tank from ROTF but these are just as bizarre! I would say that Bumblebee could make an interesting video of this format as he had so many odd alt modes (so many licensed cars as well), but I would wait til we see what that beast mode Bumblebee is about in the Rise of the Beast toyline.

I think Megatron should have a triple-transformed version, a robot, a tank, and a giant bazooka, in the tradition of him being turned into a weapon and being held. And if you want Megatron to have the ability to grow and shrink, then you should make all Transformers have the ability to grow and shrink. Turn Autobot Transformers into human size and talk to human characters.
I have an affectation for the original Megatron. I got into it to late to get him, but he was in the comics and cartoons so I had to have him. I eventually traded a kid Galvatron for him and did not regret it. One of my holy grails of Transformers collecting is to get an original Megatron. It’s not just nostalgia but that his alt mode is such a basic blunt instrument and that it’s illegal to sell on the toy market. But beyond that, it was an illogical alt mode and his robot mode was rather inelegant. I mean the comics and cartoon fixed that up, but can you imagine his toy accurate robot mode in cartoons? And I didn’t realize till just recently that above his head is supposed to be a crest or crown, not a raised visor with eye slots.
Technically Savage/Noble's "Beast Mode" isn't a dragon, it's a decapitated dragon. That's why it just has some flaps instead of a face - they're its neck where the head was severed.
You should have mentioned how the Beast Machines Megatron head was compatible with Fort Max, reverse compatibility with a G1 toy like that is pretty rare.
Something fun I found out is that, because it has 5mm holes, you can use the War for Cybertron fossilizers’ parts with Robots in Disguise Megatron giving him an axe or an extra head, etc.

I believe that the extra bells and whistles were to treat the gun, a Walther P38, a real world gun, as a sniper weapon. It may not be realistic, but it's a neat piece of 60s Spy-Fi memorabilia.
Fun Fact for those who don't know, the Megabolt design, if you remove the spider legs, can fit onto the head of Fortress Maximus, which kinda makes it more fitting as RID than Beast Machines, since Fortress Maximus and Galvatron trying to gain control of him was a major part of the latter half of the series.
There is a Transformer bootleg I see on Ebay every now and then that transforms into a gun in Optimus, Megatron, or Bumblebee colors, with the only other difference being the head.

My machine wars Megatron is the dark gray toy. Didn't know there was a mix-up on the file cards. I can't see the blue clone as the actual Megatron. Just as I cannot see the the short haired clone from a few years ago as the actual TJ Omega.
I have a video suggestion. Why are Legends/Commander/Core class figures so good? Seriously, for at least the last 10 years, Hasbrothers have consistently put out at least 1 or 2 really good figures in that class size. They've been pretty posable and have had decent paint apps and even accessories. I can't speak about any 3rd party figures but the overall reviews on the interwebs also seem to indicate they are pretty good as well. Thanks for your vids.
If you transform WFC Megatron just right, he comes out looking similar to a pistol from starwars that omega supreme WFC figure can hold in his claw hand.
i always liked to believe that megatron was such a powerful transformer that when he came to earth teletran1 had to find a mode to match something close to what he was on cybertron. Also symbolically I feel that with him being such a strong leader that his alt mode was a reminder that despite how powerful you are you cannot do this alone!

Because I recall Starscream turning into some bizarre things, including things on this list that both Prime and Megatron have turned into. Granted, it's mostly jets for Starscream, but some of those jets are weird.
Come to think of it now, there's two more Decepticons that have turned into weird things, Soundwave and Shockwave.(Though you might have to cheat with Shockwave a bit due to Hasbro losing the name for a while and having to call him and his counterparts Shockblast.) After them, I'm not sure who else to do myself as far as best known Transformers go... You might get a bit of mileage out of Grimlock though... He has been other things beyond a T-Rex.

Specifically, actually, Megatron is based on one of the prop guns that they made for The Man From UNCLE. If you look up "UNCLE Special", you'll see the two guns are almost identical. The original pretext of Micro Change was that they turned into toys, so Megatron is meant to turn into a child's cap gun based on merchandise from his favorite show.
Which is kinda weird, both that Man from UNCLE was popular enough in Japan to justify the collaboration, and that Hasbro was legally allowed to use that version overseas...
That’s apparently how it worked in the Aligned continuity. However, Shockwave did discover how to make modifications to make bots capable of flight, which is how Megatron, originally a tank, was able to become a jet, as well as the Jet Vehicons. EDIT: Animated Continuity no bots were capable of flight until the Decepticons discovered it. Then, after the war the Elite Guard reverse engineered the tech after once capturing Starscream, which gave us the twins (it was in the Animated: The Arrival comic series)

I liked the Beast Machines Overlord Megatron. Menacing, Scary, and Brainiac flying head just Screams "Megatron took over, Deal With It!".
In a way the helicopter is intimidating because you can hear it coming, and the fact that its an attack chopper means nowhere is safe haha.

Construct Bots Unicron Megatron is actually a really good construct bot mold.
Soundwave and Shockwave have alot of alt mode variance. And Starscream find his way into weird Japanese promo stuff like Bearbrick as well.
My Transmetal 2 Megatron came pre-broken with a leg falling off, got it from someone else but I didn't know this was such a common break.
Devil gigatron did turn into his devil ostrich mode in the legends manga.
There is a Transformer bootleg I see on Ebay every now and then that transforms into a gun in Optimus, Megatron, or Bumblebee colors, with the only other difference being the head.

Surprised you didnt mention the Robot Masters version of Tank Megatron, the one where he could have an Optimus head, sort of transforming into Optimus Prime. Literally becoming his arch enemy is quite a bizarre alt mode

My machine wars Megatron is the dark gray toy. Didn't know there was a mix-up on the file cards. I can't see the blue clone as the actual Megatron. Just as I cannot see the the short haired clone from a few years ago as the actual TJ Omega.
I have a video suggestion. Why are Legends/Commander/Core class figures so good? Seriously, for at least the last 10 years, Hasbrothers have consistently put out at least 1 or 2 really good figures in that class size. They've been pretty posable and have had decent paint apps and even accessories. I can't speak about any 3rd party figures but the overall reviews on the interwebs also seem to indicate they are pretty good as well. Thanks for your vids.
If you transform WFC Megatron just right, he comes out looking similar to a pistol from starwars that omega supreme WFC figure can hold in his claw hand.

i always liked to believe that megatron was such a powerful transformer that when he came to earth teletran1 had to find a mode to match something close to what he was on cybertron. Also symbolically I feel that with him being such a strong leader that his alt mode was a reminder that despite how powerful you are you cannot do this alone!

You sure you don't know? Because I recall Starscream turning into some bizarre things, including things on this list that both Prime and Megatron have turned into. Granted, it's mostly jets for Starscream, but some of those jets are weird.
Come to think of it now, there's two more Decepticons that have turned into weird things, Soundwave and Shockwave.(Though you might have to cheat with Shockwave a bit due to Hasbro losing the name for a while and having to call him and his counterparts Shockblast.) After them, I'm not sure who else to do myself as far as best known Transformers go... You might get a bit of mileage out of Grimlock though... He has been other things beyond a T-Rex.
I've said this on other websites and I'll say it here. Optimus _really_ lucked out with the original toy he got compared to Megatron.

Specifically, actually, Megatron is based on one of the prop guns that they made for The Man From UNCLE. If you look up "UNCLE Special", you'll see the two guns are almost identical. The original pretext of Micro Change was that they turned into toys, so Megatron is meant to turn into a child's cap gun based on merchandise from his favorite show.
Which is kinda weird, both that Man from UNCLE was popular enough in Japan to justify the collaboration, and that Hasbro was legally allowed to use that version overseas...

That’s apparently how it worked in the Aligned continuity. However, Shockwave did discover how to make modifications to make bots capable of flight, which is how Megatron, originally a tank, was able to become a jet, as well as the Jet Vehicons.
EDIT: Animated Continuity no bots were capable of flight until the Decepticons discovered it. Then, after the war the Elite Guard reverse engineered the tech after once capturing Starscream, which gave us the twins (it was in the Animated: The Arrival comic series)
