Hello,I just found your site and I'm just blown away I can tumble my fluorite!!..I had thought it was to soft!..it's one of my favorites!..now that I've watched several of your videos my whole world of rock tumbling has changed,and I NEVER knew I could dry tumble in my lorotone rotary...I went and got a vibe for Christmas and am waiting to open it up,..still excited but,I'm even more excited about all the other rocks I have that now I can tumble without worrying I'll ruin them..thanks for all your tips!!..I'll be watching for more videos!

What is your opinion on me using walnut shell for the dry tumbling?
Those are so pretty i just wanna eat them! I bought a bag of assorted stones and they gave me one tiny piece of fluorite and i took it out early since it was mixed with hard stones
Crystal Wisdom--Love your vids! Have a problem...I have a bunch of medium-sized fluorite that when wet are gorgeous but even after 120/220 and 500 and 1000 grit runs of a day each are covered with a network of spidery web white hazinesses...can't get them clear....a flashlight shined behind them show they are GORGEOUS in color inside.... am about to give up on them....any thoughts? (I do run them in smallish batches with each other...)
Thanks for the video!! I have some dull rainbow fluorite left which didn't work out with ceramics media and AlO. The dry corncob method is sure worth a try. Btw: have you had experiences with nutshell granules as well?
Hi! So i got a batch of fluorite to tumble and on the 2nd day of the 2nd stage i noticed there already so tiny!!! I didnt tumble them long and i cant really polish some of them or they will totally disappear...any ideas? I dont have ceramic media so i used tile spacers could that be the reason?

I'm so sad. Didn't watch this before the last stage of tumbling my fluorite and used ivory soap for burnish and it completely ruined the shine. Do you think there is a way to get it back? Maybe repeating my micro alumina step for a couple days? Help!

Also the borax and detergent is it big standard borax Crystal's and can u use any powdered detergent like vanish
I don't think I used borax with this batch, but I use a standard laundry borax. For the powdered soap it should be chemical free, which is why people use Dreft (a baby laundry detergent) or shaved Ivory soap.
Hi reiki,im getting fractures in my fluorite and other stones when i tumble.Do you have any ideas?
Add some filler material, more rocks, plastic pellets, or ceramic media. The rocks are smacking against each other because there is too much free space.
Hi sorry another question. Can you use plastic media instead of ceramic. I have plastic tile spacers?
I don't recommend any plastic products as cushion because it inhibits the grit from doing it's job.
What is the the other white material in your strainer in the first stages?
That is called Ceramic Media and is used to cushion stone, or to fill up the room left after stones have been worn down. Great question! 👍
I have been collecting rocks off the beach in Sequim Washington and tumbling and I got into tumbling and they’re all so shiny and so beautiful but I never could understand why when I do fluoride I was doing them for seven days for cycle and at the end washing them but I didn’t know about the dry polish and they just all seem hazy like they’re scratched like you find them on the beach like they’re smooth but they’re hazy so you can’t see through them can I please have more information on dry polishing and burnishing and how to make them shine because I have probably 10 pounds of them that are just dull♥️
Hi Michael-- I can relate! I have a bunch of medium-sized fluorite that when wet are beautiful but when dry are covered with a spiders'-web of hazy whiteness I can't get rid of even after 120/220/500/& 1000 grit runs....am lost at this point! You are not alone! Lol!
Could i use cerium oxide.or a.zinc oxide.instead as.cant get hold.of aluminium oxide.in.uk
Absolutely. Use what is easiest for you in your area. Aluminum Oxide is the easiest and most economical to buy in the US, and Cerium is pretty pricey here. But the availability and price are different everywhere. Cerium is a really good polish 👍👍
where did you order your fluortie?
You can start at the begining and check every day, that does work. But you can also start in later step and run unwatched for a week, start in step 2 not in 1 at all. Worked for me, so maybe it could for you as well.
I checked every day even in the later stages, so it wouldn't save me the daily checks 👍 I find that Medium grit just does not shape it the way I prefer so I always do at least a day of Course with any soft stone. Just my personal preference.
@@ReikiGemWellness thank you. But the thing is are you cleaning when you are checking or just take a stone and check? There is a process of continual tumble where stones are pulled continually and new are added along with grit and prep each time they are checked, this raises cost of tumbling dramatically due to constant grit replacement and time, and you said you only use half the amount of coarse grit, is that to negate the cost, or the grinding?
What are the names of the powders that u tumble your flourite in
The polish powder is Aluminum Oxide 👍 It's also listed in the Recipe card toward the end of the video

Are you tumbling the fluorite with water, or is it a dry tumble like calcite? I have some rough I want to tumble, so just want to make sure if it’s a wet or dry tumble. This is my first tumbling experience, period. Should I start with something harder? Checking it daily isn’t a problem for me, by the way.
Hi, I have a stone that I found several years ago that , to me, is absolutely beautiful 😁. After looking into rock tumbling on TH-cam and finding you I am quite sure it is fluorite. I would like to tumble it but it’s the only fluorite I have. If I tumble it with other types of stones will it ruin the results or damage it in some way?

Fluorite is very soft, so I would only tumble it with other soft stones like Calcite or more Fluorite. Tumbling stones that you found yourself is incredibly satisfying, so I hope you get the chance to try it! 👍👍

Please Let Know Shannon, I realize that I’ve been tumbling them too long per per per per process I was going 7 to 10 days for rough 7 to 10 days for medium in 7 to 10 days for fine an extra fine taking a month and they get smaller but they still come out and then at the end I was told to use dawn dish soap so I put on dish soap in and I tumbling with pallets but even when they come out and I rinse them off there hazy and not see-through and not transparent
you need micro alumina. not 1500 grit. kingsley north sells it cheap and they ship fast. use new corn cob media.

Tumbling my first fluorite. Started with No 2 grit. After just 24 hours I lost 8ozs from a 20 oz load. Very upset. I've gone onto No 3 fine grit and will check again in 24 hours. All my books say not to use ceramic medium on Fine grit tumbling. I noticed you have medium in with your stones right through upto dry polishing.

Where I am theres not much for good minerals or stones.
It absolutely becomes addicting! 😀 In my area there isn't much good rockhunting, so I get my rough stock online
Get a shovel and dig in your back yard.
Maybe buy a big ball of landscaping rocks
I found a rose quartz as a kid from a bag of one of those
I did the same thing but it always gets banged and cracked.
That could be because of too many stones in the barrel. It needs to be 50% corn cob and 50% stones so they have lots of room to move around without crashing into each other 👍

"From start to finish" suggested (in my mind, anyway) this was a tutorial--but you didn't even give conditions. You might consider divulging the conditions you used. Your results look better than what I saw on Michigan Rock's channel, which could be technique or the quality of starting material or both. I am tumbling a material of similar hardness, and this is the reason I watched this video--and the reason I'm disappointed now, since I have no info on conditions used to achieve your quite stunning results. Were coarse and fine normal silicon carbide wet tumbles, or did you go with aluminum oxide, or maybe you went entirely with dry tumbles? Which grits did you use? It sure would be nice to know. I tumbled some fluorite with some other stones and the fluorite disappeared. 😅
Maybe I am the only one.. but I feel sad for the stone to go through washing machine like for days. No wonder rough stone was said to be more powerful for meditation lol For me, except they were used in bed for sleep that needs to be tumbled... I like rough raw stone better and their energy is more beautiful.
Everyone has their own preference and connects with a different form of the stone 🙏🙏
