Just would like to say thanks for starters! Clayton Smith is rarely seen online, and the 7mm SAW seems like the best thing since… the Creedmoor (but better). Thanks! -Isaac
Considering between 7 SAW and the 7mm08AI, they're not really similar but what I like about the 7 SAW is bullet options, heavy for caliber. The 7mm08AI has a leg up in velocity and I think it more suited for shorter barrels like 20" or 18"
I had Radix Precision build my SAW in April of last year, and it has been phenomenal. I have run it in a few local rifle matches including a 600 F open match and it always excels. It slammed my last deer, and will likely go with me if i draw an elk tag in Nebraska this year. I had some initial issues with my Hornady dies destroying cases, and Clayton helped me solve the issue over the phone. Running a 22" proof on a mack bros evo SS. Looks very similar to the rifle in the video. I primarily run 162 ELDMs and ELDXs, but have been contemplating trying to load some 180s. Has anyone run the 180 in a 22" barrel and been able to get enough velocity to make it worth it over a 162? I load primarily with varget and H4350.
That's awesome! Love hearing success stories like this. I know Clayton has run the 180s before but I believe it was from a 26" barrel. The current match load is the 166 A-tips and they do great!
Im looking at building a rifle for high power silhouette hunter class. One cartridge is the 6gt. I think i just found another. High power silhouette is a compromise of enough power to knock down the 52-58# rams at 500m and low recoil. 6gt seems to offer that compromise. Would 7saw be a low recoil option in a 9 lb rifle without a break or suppresor? Those are the rules.
@@austinpribulsky8186 it can be done, and has been done. But it's kind of like using a 215gr in a 308. Super high BC projectile but going very slow. It's more effective going a little lighter and maintaining some good velocity. In the video, he discusses running 166gr A-Tips for his match load and it's 👌
The 284 case is longer than a standard 308 or SAW case, so generally you don't have the ability to seat longer projectiles out where they need to be. They will be seated further into the case taking up capacity. Most factory offerings are in a 1:10 twist and use light for caliber options. The SAW has the same body taper as a 308 so it feeds from all magazines incredibly well. Alpha Munitions makes the brass for the SAW and their brass is incredibly well made. The SAW is very well suited across a wide range of projectile weights. I've run the 150 ELDX 3000+ from a 26" barrel, the 166 A-Tips at 2700 from a 20" barrel and 190 Berger Hybrids at 2510 from a 28" barrel for different types of competitions.
@@PhalanxArms thank you for thr explanation i run a 6.5x284 with a long action so i can seat the bullets out where they need to be recoil is almost nothing with a 3 port brake i can watch trace all the way . 2985 velocity with H4350 lapua brass and 140 grain berger hybrids have shot it to 1 mile 900 and in is to easy....
Does this have a LRP brass or SRP? If you built this on LRP you have failed with ignition. SRP is far superior for velocity. You woukd gain another 100fps at least
Too bad you didn’t design it around the 7-08 Brass so you could use it to fire form and still have similar head stamped brass. Also, you cant get the 7 SAW brass…so there is that to consider.
@@PhalanxArms yes, but are they available? I’ve been waiting a year for WTO to have it in stock but alpha just keeps saying various reasons as to why they haven’t made another batch yet
@@justice1327 Lucky and unlucky for us, Alpha has been running behind for quite a while. They are growing like crazy and adding additional QC measurements. So we've all been waiting on it for a while but we are anticipating some being available very soon.

Glad you enjoyed it! The SAW is definitely a solid choice.
Now i want a 7mm SAW 😅
Let's gooo. It won't disappoint

Where can I go to look at load data for a 175 ABLR? Considering this for a build I’m doing for elk and smaller game.
🤙🏻🔥🇺🇸
Can you fit the 168 in a short action while seating the bullets pressure ring above the donut area of the case neck?
You can run them plenty long. I run 190s in my PRS rifle at mag length

I got some buddies that run 180 in there 7 saw fclass rig looking at 2650 to 2700 30in barrel

The SAW will definitely have more recoil than a 6 GT but a lot more energy on target. Recoil is similar to a 6.5 CM. Good luck!
How fast could I get a 7 SAW pushing a 195gr? Also would it be better to run a medium length or a short action length
It would depend on a few things. You can get the 195 in the SAW but it's not the most efficient choice. And a short action is good to go
@@PhalanxArms why wouldn’t it be the most efficient?

just a question why not shoot the 284 win ? it is silly accurate and great at long range?

Correct. They have a reamer option with a shorter free bore for AR-10s

I wonder why the pond shops and gun shops are full of slightly used 6.5 crapmore rifles ??? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
