- In this video I talk about the recent CGC 9.9 sale for a Wolverine number one that sold on comic connect for $12,500. While that is still a lot of money it is a sizable correction from the sale that happened earlier this year and a lot less than the one last year. Is this the begging of the end for 9.9's? Certainly as more hit the market you will continue to take buyers off the table. I also talk about some golden age sales including an incredible copy of Marvel Comics 1.

CGC can take a long walk off a cliff. My buddy just got 20 books back from CGC yesterday. All 20 have the bend in the inner well. Absolutely unacceptable. I've lost all respect for the company. They still deny that this is even happening.

On the other hand, the Joe Jusko Iron Man homage to King Kirby was a real pleasure to see - and I agree, a great price for that. Iconic original art is always a 1/1 and you just can't mess with that.
I think CGC will release a 11.0 grade in the future.

Great Video. Two thoughts ; a Wolverine #1 9.8 is around 550.00, a raw can be anywhere from 75 to 200.00. I think a person has to be nuts to spend over 12 grand on this book 9.9 or not. Maybe its a scam purchase to push the 9.9. Though # two, I know a tri-state comic dealer with 2 full sealed shipping cases of that book. That's over 600 untouched books. So people if you read this please do not spend that kind of money on a common book.

We’re really into NFT level delusion at this point. CGC just decided one day to give more books higher grades to drum up business and people with too much money and not enough brain cells just ate it up. Now they’re paying the price.
The awful part I can submit 25 books all 9.8 cracked and never get back one 9.9 or 10.0. The idiots at CGC would see that I’m not an auction house or a big dealer give me a bunch of 9.2 to 9.6.
Can’t wait for all my 9.8s to be worthless in the future as the 9.9s come down in price

it depends on the book... 9.9s are gonna be abundent on copper and newer, but bronze and older 9.8s are still gonna be eye watering
American consumers have become quite adept at recognizing inflation so it is highly likely that collectors can see 'gradeflation' written all over the CGC label. I once admired CGC's grading but after seeing my 9.8's covered in color-breaking ticks and bent inner wells they describe as 'normal', the house of cards begins to crumble...
I'm surprised CGC has any credibility left. People are still submitting to them, only to get their formerly high-grade books back with bends and spine ticks.
Let's hope this trend holds. Down with 9.9s!
What's going on with bendgate at CGC?
I just got 7 books back (2 weeks ago) - all 9.8 with banana and 3 books suffered dimpling at the spine and 2 books received a color breaking spine tick in the dimple on the spine.
These were not sent to CGC in this condition. I have the photos of before.
My LCS personally delivered these books to Sarasota.
The damage had to occur in Sarasota at the facility.
There's no way these books would have made a 9.8 grade with the dimpling and the color breaking spine tick on the cover that is very obvious to the eye.
CGC says it's not a problem. So don't worry about it.
I got a modern 9.9 signature series that looks like a banana few weeks ago. It isn't quite so bad as to give a tick but you can tell by looking at the front of the case it isn't sitting in there right. No more CGC until this is fixed and really hoping PSA will be a good alternative but not holding my breath
Wow, who could've predicted this? If only a bunch of people online had said it would obviously happen once CGC started handing out way more 9.9's...
The problem is that there’s too much markup between 9.8 & 9.9 where they’re basically the exact same grade.
Why pay $5k for a 9.9 when you can get a 9.8 for $1k?
The price difference between those 2 grades shouldn’t be so large. If a 9.8 is $1k, a 9.9 should be like $2k; not 3-6xs the value.

I'm betting that in a few years CGC will pull a 'Spinal Tap' that allows for the possibilty of an 11 on the most exceptional books - causing another market reset. 😉
I just grabbed my raw copy of Wolverine #1, grabbed some Elmer’s glue, used the glue on the top left corner to write out two 9s with a period between them, sprinkled some gold glitter on the glue, waited 5 minutes, turned the book 45° to the left to remove all the excess glitter that did not stick to the glue, looked at my new 9.9 copy of the book and threw it in the trash.

I don't mean to sound "too cool" for this, but chasing after a decimal place for an indistinguishable difference just seems silly.
Yeah I think people figured out it’s just cgc controlling the market. I think only dealers famous TH-camrs get 9.9 and 10.0.
It's easy to not buy 9.9's when I don't have that kind of money to begin with 😅
This simply goes to prove that the supposed rarity of 99.9 or 10.0 is a fallacy. When one person can submit 25 books, for example, and get back a slew of 9.9 & a few 10.0 it’s a complete joke.
That Joe Jusko cover is an amazing buy at that price.
It all finally comes down to, who wants a certain copy bad enough and how much they are willing to pay for it. I think in some cases the comic book rating doesn’t mean a thing if someone wants that comic in their collection.

This all sounds like one big who cares? There are only so many people willing to pay thousands for a book that is probably only worth hundreds at best. And there are even fewer people who will pay an ever higher premium down the road. If it was original art from Wolverine #1 then I would be impressed.
I'm pretty sure Chris Clairemont wrote the Wolverine miniseries. Frank Miller just drew it.
I hate the 9.9 easier grading change. Now a lot of these 9.8 will be regraded repressed all so CGC can make more $$$
But this could negatively impact people holding current 9.8 which could plummet when 9.9 and 10 suddenly are showing 🤦♂️
I think in the hobby a lot of people bought 9.8s because they were supposed to be the best copy out there.they spent a lot of money. I feel bad for those people if they start grading books at 9.9s And 10s now!
Personally, I always thought 9.9 were way overvalue. Being like 20x over 9.8 is just ridiculous.
guess people didn't understand all the over production of comics and ball cards in the 90's. the one of a kind gold plated with platinum and silver insets and or holograms of different colors and special issues made in the millions. another high grade boxed in plastic gimmick and now they are getting damaged and or re packaged wake up and stop paying for nothing.
Ya it sold for half as much as it did a year ago but it also sold for 6 times as much as it did 5 years ago meanwhile a 9.8 sells for 1.5 times as much as it did 5 years ago.
So the chances of getting a 9.9 are higher if you sent the same books at the same time in one single submission, instead of sending them individually and combine it with other books?
It may be the beginning of the end, but I would take odd results at Comic Connect with a grain of salt.

Yes, that actually is a real Emmy. If I remember correctly, Swag is a director of music videos and commercials by day, and the Emmy is for a Nickelodeon campaign he directed in 2018. The first time I saw it, I thought it was a gag trophy or something to decorate his background, and I was shocked (and oddly proud) to find out it was the real deal.

Very predictable. The 9.9 market is overheated and overpriced. No question that values will continue to drop. Anyone buying a 9.9 now is taking a very large risk.
That's why these companies want to roll out sub grades...
Looks like too much stress.
CGC didn't come out with 9.9's grading until 2024 mid summer i've read and watch all the videos.. So all those dates you are showing below 2023 are not real.. So where did all those 9.9's come from if there was none until they came out with the 9.9's.......?????????
