This is how I like to run quick maps at the table. Love the 10x10 blue line graph paper. Thx for the tutorial JP!

I found something similar to these on Amazon awhile back -- they're rectangles on yellow/tan craft paper, but same idea. I LOVE them. And it was like $12 on Amazon for 500. Although I do like the white squares a lot, maybe if I ever finish the ones I have.

I really like the giant tablet of graph paper, and have a few frequently visited locations drawn out (both wilderness and town/village), and pull them out when revisited. I use a Chessex dry-erase battle mat with Vis-a-vi colored pens to quickly draw areas encountered. It has the bonus of keeping hidden things, like secret doors not drawn, until found. I use different colors for objects in the rooms to quickly denote cover, like furniture, (red for tall objects, green for low objects, brown for difficult terrain and purple for obvious magic auras. Great video!

Love what you say about keeping it simple, I feel like I tend to overthink my maps but sometimes you just need a guide for the players

I was sad to see it wasn’t sold in stores! But I was able to get them on the online store and I’m excited to use them.

This might be a good idea to stop me overthinking my dungeons. I don't have that much experience with DM'ing yet (at all, really), but I have noticed that I sometimes deliberately steer clear of dungeons because I tend to think that it and everything in it has to be somehow closely connected to the overarching story of the campaign and so I need to have this fully fleshed out and prepared ahead of time. Which is obviously not true, a dungeon can just be a dungeon. It doesn't have to be the lair of one of the BBEG's minions or the location of a captured villager with useful story information.
Weird how that never really clicked with me before. I'm always struggling for time and my group is actually on a short hiatus right now because half of us are in the middle of big life stuff. But I never really consider that I could get ahead a little bit and give myself some respite and more time to prepare story stuff, just by throwing in a non-story dungeon and "holding up" the party for a session or two while I figure out the story stuff. Still can't imagine just whipping up a dungeon in the middle of a session, but I'll definitely start creating some more dungeons for the fun of it now!

Dude, this is a great find! I’m digging the way you can make these maps real quick and still make them look like more than just a couple squares that are supposed to look like stuff. Definitely gonna use this!

I use large flipchart sheets which in Germany have a 2,5x2,5cm grid (VERY near to 1inchx1inch).
I needed some Kobold caves with a secret Tunnel, so I dumped all my dice on it an formed the cave Walls, easily opening a new tunnel later.

Nice find and idea! I'm not a big fan of the almost $20 price tag for something so simple so I plan on making a quick template in Photoshop with an 8x8 box and 1 inch grid lines in blue then cutting them out fast using my paper guillotine. Sure, it's not as convenient but it's a whole lot cheaper! 😁

You've almost got dungeon geomorphs there! If you just make sure that the paths connecting tiles are on the same edge squares (usually 3 and 8), then they'll always match up nicely. Then you'll be able to randomly generate dungeons on the fly, which might be an interesting surprise for everyone, yourself included!

Damn I wish our DM had these when used to play... We actually had a designated cartographer in the party who would draw us a map room by room as we went through dungeons so we didn't forget any doors or in case we had to double back lol.... it was a lot of work for the poor guy.

But, what's wrong with a battle map to create on the fly? I mean that's really what you've made. Except you can just wipe the encounter off and start a new.
