I don't think he ever gave an offer, they literally got the guaranteed and APY from saquons agent who was scouting the market, not the giants upper staff. Joe had no idea what the market was.
Giants were not winning many games with him anyway. He was also injured a lot. I'm ok with this. It's just the media doing what they do. Running backs are very replaceable. Especially, with a decent O line.

QThe owner came in and applied very subtle pressure to keep him but he stood his ground and didn’t do what he wanted.

DJ has shown signs of not being a total meathead and getting the ball out quick. I think this year with a solid 4 lineman and one meh guy he could get an extra second to process and find Nabers & Hyatt quickly and get the ball to them.
With Singletary and Co. chipping on whoever Neal is letting by it could work out.

We handled it very well. Our total offer was 25 Eagles offered a guaranteed 26. We weren’t gonna win a bidding war. So we pivot to being a true passing offense
They didn't want Saquon and I don't blame them (at that price). He's an over-hyped, over-priced, injury waiting to happen. If they really wanted to control him, they could have tagged him and THEN looked for a trade deal.

They needed to fill spots, they did. They weren't left with enough to sign Saquon, who, going by his career, could be a top 3 RB, or could just as likely be injured in Week 3 and miss the rest of the season. We'll see.

On the contrary, I've gone from dissing the Giants at every turn to now having some respect for them. 100%, unequivocally, this team's BIGGEST need was o-line, so hearing the GM and coaches talk about that being their top priority gave me more confidence in the Giants turnaround. Makes no sense to spend big bucks on Saquon when you have so many needs all over the place. Now, if they go 3-14, well, maybe they should've done it differently 😅
They spent the money they saved from letting Saquon & McKinney walk on Oline & pass rush. That's a smart investment. Only the jabroni casuals don't understand positional value.

How did they look terrible? They gave him a great offer the year before. He had another year of injurys and is at the very risky position to bet on. They told him to go see what he’s worth and come back with the number. They handled it like professionals. Constantly making sure Barkley knew he was wanted back. It was very clear saquan didn’t want to come back.

People are forgetting that signing an aging oft-injured RB to a max contract is a major FAIL. Let's see how he looks in Philly before we flame the Giants for not making the same stupid mistake that the Cowboys found out the hard way.
Lombardi is reaching. As a life-long Giants fan and a Barkley fan, signing him for that price just didn't make sense. We have way too many holes to spend 13 mill a season on a RB. Our offensive line is so poor, signing a high paid RB right now is like buying a speed boat and you live in Las Vegas.
Signing Daniel Jones was a mistake.
idk, Daniels ain't him, so it seems like a better idea to bolster the offensive line geared for a run-heavy offense and keep Daniels from throwing 30 times a game, also keeping the defense fresher if you can sustain long drives while keeping the opposing QB on the bench. RBs are typically dime a dozen but Barkley is one to build around and opens up the passing game if you can get the running game going more reliably.
@@davidlrogers Daniel Jones only has 1 year left on his guaranteed deal. The remaining years have no guaranteed money, which means we can cut him after this season with no cap hit. Giants will be looking drastically different in 2 years.
Barkley was the giants whole offense. 13m for Barkley now is a good deal and will be this time next year. For 13m you lost your entire offense. 13m for Barkley. 40m for D Jones. Put the pieces together

The plan was to use Jones and Barkley as stop cap players that’s why neither got more than 2 years of commitment while they loaded up in the draft and get the cap right they gave AT and Dex now Burns the real commitment 3-4 years the giants win through the trenches

EVERY organization goes through these situations EVERY year, it's nice to see behind the scenes of what EVERY football team management goes through.....Lomlardo has been through this as well, but no one is hiring his a$$ to straighten out their clubs with his brilliant ideas.

Watching Hard Knocks I thought I was the only one who thought that GM didn’t know what the hell he was doing. He wasn’t too upset in losing Barkley and then also questioned Daniel Jones by constantly bringing up his injury history. That is a concern no doubt but to not get your superstar RB back and then doubt your starting QB just seemed like the head honcho didn’t know what he wanted to do with this team

What really screwed the Giants was overachieving in 2022 and winning a playoff game. If they cut loose from Jones and Barkley then, fans go crazy. They felt stuck and probably thought that getting more talent for Jones (Waller) and another season with Daboll, they would be better. Jones gets hurt, Waller was a bad trade.
Same thing happened with the Bills in 2017, they tried to suck, but overachieved with Tyrod Taylor - luckily they figured out a way to get down to the 7th pick to get Allen in 2018. That’s the difference in when the Bills pivoted and the Giants didn’t. The Bills knew the limitations of Taylor and the Giants knew that of Jones as well. They shouldn’t have re-signed Jones - Knowing the ‘24 draft was filled with QBs, and not taking one, screwed them again. They now have Jones without Barkley. They messed up.
They’re trying to win now and will probably win 8-9 games and be stuck with a middle range 1st rd pick.
I understand how they got into this dilemma - just don’t think they know how to get out of it.
Lombardi had 35 years in the NFL and only 1 year as a GM of the Cleveland Browns. He turned our drafting one of the worst draft classes of all time. All no names and aren’t even in the nfl any more. His “expertise” is only on what not to do.
