Barkley was the face of the franchise, but his injuries were a concern. Schoen had a number and Philly beat! He moved on! I trust what Schoen is doing.
Daniel Jones has been injured the entire time he has been playing for the Giants so that isn’t a valid excuse. His main argument was Barkley’s age. But for me if you’re still producing at a high level then you should get paid no matter the age. Maybe the contract needs to be condensed from an amount of years standpoint. Barkley is an NFL MVP level talent. Daniel Jones is average at best. They should have held on to Barkley and Drafted a Rookie QB that could have even them the same production. Or made a deal with another team to pick up another qb. There are plenty of inexpensive QB’s that can give them the same or more production than Jones. The owner understands that even outside of the production on the field, Barkley is worth the investment due to the retail side of things. I’m sure Barkley’s jerseys were far and away the most frequently purchased piece of retail. Not Daniel Jones. Those sells offset some of the salary expense as well. The owner understands these things. They also paid Daniel Jones similar money. That’s crazy!!! Sorry, The GM had a very skewed opinion and should have listened to his boss. Sorry.
Exactly. There was enough money to pay Saquon build the line if they paid Jones much less. Schoen doesn’t watch tape or know his team/players. He has no clue about value to the team. He’s looking at numbers and spreadsheets only.

Watching Hard Knocks I thought I was the only one who thought that GM didn’t know what the hell he was doing. How do these guys like Michael Lombardi, who do this for a living, not have professional cameras and mics on them at all times? Michael Lombardi streaming through a potato trying to destroy my headset.
As a former athlete in hockey, I disagree here, respectfully. The GM, has the right, to consult with the owner and outline a conversation that states we no longer see you as our asset, you will be entering free agency, but no offer will come in to match you. The GM & Owner, had a completely different message to him. They did not want to insult him by offering $12M over 3 years & it would have also made the PR look bad considering he’s carried the team offensively since being drafted. With that said, they were not about to pay $15M a season not knowing if he was worth that risk, in the market. He’s already above 27 years old, and running backs break down in the knees and synovial fluid begins to decline which is what lubricants the joints naturally so you are mobile and less prone to injury and arthritis. Their entire franchise rests on keeping Daniel’s safe from injury. They have $40M a season tied to him… so now they have to cut ties with their running back, to spend on protecting the front line QB.
No one wants to hear it but it just doesn't make sense to put extra money into a RB when you can put it into your O-line. Todd Gurley, Elliot, & Le'veon Bell buried the market forever.
On the contrary, I've gone from dissing the Giants at every turn to now having some respect for them. 100%, unequivocally, this team's BIGGEST need was o-line, so hearing the GM and coaches talk about that being their top priority gave me more confidence in the Giants turnaround. Makes no sense to spend big bucks on Saquon when you have so many needs all over the place. Now, if they go 3-14, well, maybe they should've done it differently 😅
They spent the money they saved from letting Saquon & McKinney walk on Oline & pass rush. That's a smart investment. Only the jabroni casuals don't understand positional value.
We handled it very well. Our total offer was 25 Eagles offered a guaranteed 26. We weren’t gonna win a bidding war. So we pivot to being a true passing offense
I think it was handled professionally. It’s a contract negotiation and they got outbid. They didn’t disrespect Barkley they let him go into the open market
I like how everyone saying they lost a star but forget they just got a potential star in nabers if jones can be competent in the pocket i feel nabers can carry the offense with hyatt and slayton backing him up and just a solid rb room
Ive been watching football for a LOOOOONG time - for 30+ years - and i cannot remember a more impactful player coming in to a new team and doing THIS. Saquo will be MVP .
What really screwed the Giants was overachieving in 2022 and winning a playoff game. If they cut loose from Jones and Barkley then, fans go crazy. They felt stuck and probably thought that getting more talent for Jones (Waller) and another season with Daboll, they would be better. Jones gets hurt, Waller was a bad trade. Same thing happened with the Bills in 2017, they tried to suck, but overachieved with Tyrod Taylor - luckily they figured out a way to get down to the 7th pick to get Allen in 2018. That’s the difference in when the Bills pivoted and the Giants didn’t. The Bills knew the limitations of Taylor and the Giants knew that of Jones as well. They shouldn’t have re-signed Jones - Knowing the ‘24 draft was filled with QBs, and not taking one, screwed them again. They now have Jones without Barkley. They messed up. They’re trying to win now and will probably win 8-9 games and be stuck with a middle range 1st rd pick. I understand how they got into this dilemma - just don’t think they know how to get out of it.

How can the same " WUD" be funny after all these years
If I was an owner and I told my guy this and he is telling me false information whether its cause he's incompetent or has another goal, I would fired him the moment Eagles signed him. How does Joe not know what's going on with their best/popular player. SMH.
Aye pat roll a blunt for the fans tonight
As a Cowboys fan, I was happy to see Barkley leave NY, the dude's a beast, but also as a Cowboys fan, I was pissed to see him land in Philadelphia, the dude's a beast.
“Running back is like the point guard” Is the most old school football take I’ve heard
Gimme a break Lombardi is just another jafo
Barkley was the face of the franchise, but his injuries were a concern. Schoen had a number and Philly beat! He moved on! I trust what Schoen is doing.
0% chance to win a Super Bowl before the season starts, again. Yeah what an amazingly GM lmao
Sorry.
This comment aged like milk. Barkley for MVP! Giants Front Office is a joke.
Giants only mistake was signing Daniel Jones
DJ is on a very team friendly deal. Improve his oline and give him a true #1 WR. The front office is currently doing that.
Sorry but gaints have Wideouts
@@NiceDiggz hahaha what? They drafted nabers but haven't even seen him play yet lmao
If your biggest problem was Oline. Why didn’t you allocate part of Jones $40 million to build the line, and pay him $25-30 million
They had to pay the GOAT Daniel Jones……..
Exactly. There was enough money to pay Saquon build the line if they paid Jones much less. Schoen doesn’t watch tape or know his team/players. He has no clue about value to the team. He’s looking at numbers and spreadsheets only.
300 yards is CRAZY
LOL "good luck" Hahahahaha that's hilarious...
There’s a reason Lombardi went from a GM in the NFL to a “coach’s assistant”
Back here while he’s having an MVP calibre season with the birds
He just broke Shady McCoy’s single season rushing record 🦅🦅
Yeh, I don't know a Lot about football (it has only been a year) but if my boss looked at me like Mr Mara did and told me he would not be able to sleep if I got something wrong I would uturn so quickly my head would spin... Not a great look.
“Good Luck” 😂😂
Over/under on Schoen being out of the job after the season?
I'd say almost no shot. Maybe 10% at most.
Lombardi sounds salty, they clearly had a plan
@@prgx52 very obvious play o line and defensiv3 front 7
The plan is to suck….with Daniel Jones leading the way…..
Yeah and the plan is going to get them all fired.
Giants fans reaction is hell yeah!!! Loved the first 3 episodes and love this year’s roster. Looking forward to a tough hard year of giants football
This show can unfairly either make a teams front office look great or terrible. I will say it's my favorite hard knocks so far though. The offseason is such a chess game
Never in my life have I heard the RB referred to as a "Point Guard..." pretty sure that's the QUARTERBACK.... ya know... the guy who handles the ball all the time, calls the plays and distributes the ball among his players acting in the role of coach on the field.... but yeah the RB... LMAO 😂 🤣
Michael Lombardi just forgot Andrew Thomas is one the best offensive linemen in the league and plays for the giants im only 0:45 seconds in and he’s lost me
One guy doesn’t make a good o line
Lombardi has always been a hack. Lmaooo
He gave them a number to match. They refused. He tested the free agent market and won. That's business.
dude doesn't understand the giants situation at all
@@chrisanthony408 lost a lot of respect for a lot of people today. I don't m8nd people dunking on the giants but when you're just not saying anything factual or of any substanc3 I cant
Giants blow
@@jacobball8422uh oh 😂
Giants should've never put themselves in this situation to begin with
@chrisanthony408 is nothing to understand, really. They paid the wrong guy 1st. They should've let Danny dimes walk when he demanded a huge contract. That's their dumb decision, and the GM should be fired if they stink because he didn't value Saquon like the owner does.
Giants are a dumpster fire but not because they didn’t re sign saquon. Paying Danny dimes that contract was all I needed to know about that franchise
Michael Lombardi Don’t Mention Al Davis Challenge : IMPOSSIBLE
As a patriots fan i need to know what they offered for the 3rd pick 😂
The Giants now have 4 different kinds of RBs on the team now. They got Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. Joe Schoen is literally the running back avatar
Lmao cute
DISNEY MOVIES ARE NOT DOCUMENTARIES, KID. 👀
Saquon was all of that in one
@@cvit16 FACTS!
@@cvit16but when he goes down they lose all of them…
Drafting Barkley in the first place was a huge mistake he didn't move the needle at all when it came down to winning games good riddance
This comment didn't age well lol
Sure it did Barkley was a huge failure on the Giants
Saquon will have at least one 5 TD game in 2024.
Lombardi worked with Al Davis..... Never even heard him mention it.....
it's funny. They went to the playoffs, beat Minny. Daboll wins Coach of the Year, Schoen is called the new young star. Now they're all idiots. Is that typical or what? They needed to fill spots, they did. They weren't left with enough to sign Saquon, who, going by his career, could be a top 3 RB, or could just as likely be injured in Week 3 and miss the rest of the season. We'll see.
Paying daniel jones makes you an idiot. Nobody thinks daboll is a bad coach
Daboll got exposed in the playoffs and last year
@@azom28the team got exposed after a decade of mismanagement and now they are trying to fix that and are getting clowned on by uneducated idiots who don't know anything about running a football team.
As a life time giant im glad they let him go
Remember what Jason Kelce said about Mike Lombardi? 😂
Joe schoen comes across incompetent. He hadn’t watched film for a guy he signed! He gives amateur hour vibes
As a Giants fan, I hated to see Saquon leave, but clearly he can’t carry the team alone. They have added a lot of needed talent. Hopefully the additions will make a difference.
Why is hating on the Giants so trendy?
Because we are in the spotlight that's it.
Cause your team is terrible and mismanaged.
Probably the worst front office in sports.. and I’m a fan 🤷🏾♂️
@@5pazz 35 year Lions fan trust me I know what mediocrity looka like.

Ngl this kinda reminds me of when Tiki retired. Went from a 1RB team to RB by committee and it worked pretty well back then.
They had a way better team around Eli and a better coach. They have neither of those now.
@@kevinstewart8054How is overpaying a rb going to help them get a better team?
@@kevinstewart8054 That Giants team had an awesome Oline & pass rush. They invested the money they saved on letting SB & McKinney walk on Oline & pass rush. It was the right choice.
@@kevinstewart8054 TC was a putz, mediocre coach at best. They did have a much better roster at the time though.
@peteg2715 I don't understand why more people don't get this!
Enough of Lombardi, I’m not even a giants fan but this dude is the absolute worst. Al Davis once said it best “Mike Lombardi has been fired from every job he’s ever had. Every job. He can’t get a job. Last year he was fired from a job he was working for for nothing.” Get that clown outta there man
People are forgetting that signing an aging oft-injured RB to a max contract is a major FAIL. Let's see how he looks in Philly before we flame the Giants for not making the same stupid mistake that the Cowboys found out the hard way.
Also they literally said “it’s been reported that Philly is out of the race” so yes they would assume they either lost interest or didn’t wanna pay him either
As a Cowboys fan, im happy that Giants keep playing themselves
If you got 40mill for Jones, you better make room for Barkley
Watching Hard Knocks I thought I was the only one who thought that GM didn’t know what the hell he was doing. He wasn’t too upset in losing Barkley and then also questioned Daniel Jones by constantly bringing up his injury history. That is a concern no doubt but to not get your superstar RB back and then doubt your starting QB just seemed like the head honcho didn’t know what he wanted to do with this team
The biggest mistake the Giants made was to invest in Daniel Jones.
I don't care if he's right or wrong, Lombo cracks me up when he's peeved lol
The giants need so much more than just a good RB. It makes no sense for them to keep barkley
No one wants to hear it but it just doesn't make sense to put extra money into a RB when you can put it into your O-line. Todd Gurley, Elliot, & Le'veon Bell buried the market forever.
The Giants didn’t wanna pay him. He left for a team that was willing to overpay him. All about the money. It’s that simple.
They drafted the best WR in the draft this year. I hope DJ can get him the ball
As a Giants fan, saquan would be the icing on the cake. We're still building the cake.
Cool to know the bears were in those convos
Yeah but the eagles were clearly interested so how do you know what he said is true?
Bears weren't gonna pay that price thankfully
😅😅😅
Pat and Lombardi are the biggest NY Giants haters LMAO
Saquon wasn’t gonna carry the Giants and Giants needed to get away from overpaying and rebuild in the trenches. Simple. 💡
Is this the same Lombardi that Jason Kelce brought up in his famous speech??
Yes
Ive been watching football for a LOOOOONG time - for 30+ years - and i cannot remember a more impactful player coming in to a new team and doing THIS.
Saquo will be MVP
.
What are they doing in New Jersey lmao
