      They are not there to be nice. They are their to keep you trained, motivated, and safe until you graduate. They are their to also teach discipline, fitness, confidence, teamwork and integrity. Military does these events all the time, some are recruit training, I was a crew chief on a aerial refueling tanker in the Ohio ANG....one for that matter two of my trips was taking a group of guidance councilors, mayors, city council, etc....to NAS North Island California where they were invited to tour the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk. During the trip from Fargo to San Diego they got to see a inflight refueling of F-16. I talked with some of them on the way back to Fargo and they got really enlightened on capabilities and opportunities in the military. Active, Guard and Reserve no matter which branch is more than infantry and shooting. They got to see Aviation, ground support, logistics, carriers even in port they got a good trip and learned more about us as much as we did about them.

The reason they went light on them, because if they were to go full blast they might trigger something, possibly physical or mental that could prove detrimental and be held liable (the Corp that is), since there is no commitment to the corp by these people administratively, The Corp could be held liable. • @dylanwight5764
      @dylanwight5764 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you know how many hours of sleep a teacher gets? I do. My father taught for twenty-five years whereas I served with the RAN for seventeen, six as a DI. He averaged four hours per night on weekdays and two hours per night on weekends. During my tenure as a DI, my average was six hours per night. Teaching is the same regardless of the industry you're in (domestic vs military). It will tire you out and age you quickly. There is no more stressful job than teaching.

    • @USAFJUNKIE
      @USAFJUNKIE 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I dated an extremely intelligent teacher, my grandmother was a teacher, and my sister is student teaching (I'd argue that this is the worst since she has her own homework in addition to her teaching responsibilities). None of them EVER said they struggled to get enough sleep. On the other hand, I've met MANY Drill Instructors/Sergeants who've said that they've never had a more taxing assignment due to lack of personal time and sleep. I've even been told by MTIs that when they assisted with our officer field training that they considered it a vacation and they were still getting less than six hours of sleep. Feedback from instructors on the officer side even said that they got less than six hours daily. That said, maybe you and your dad were outliers, I don't know. I figured I'd throw in my two cents though. Thanks for the response!

    You know...I remember Camp Pendleton where I went through Field Med School in 21 Area. I am pretty sure none of us walked when ordered to move. There is a very good reason why they work you to become a team, and a Marine. You have to EARN IT! Semper Fi!! "Doc" LaRue

I can see little Johnny in the basement being told I went to boot camp MARINE style and if I got through it you should go to collage, graduate and move foward,or get a job or join up and get the hell out and see the world and how you can contribute ..This is a recruitment film to bring guilt to thoses that have reservations about doing anything for self...for sure it's not a cake walk...for the fighting age person..DI.s are hard for a reason and that's to teach you to save self and your people on all sides of you and they teach all recruits with the same mind set.To work as one unit...green machine..

    As a former Marine they will never experience the anxiety and fear of arriving at the depot. It was real for us as these reporters knew it wasn't for them! I do wish they would've PT'd the reporter in the beginning that was wearing the grey and white beanie for being a "Nasty"...

      Does that work? I mean, the harsh treatment. What does it give to a Marine? What advantages does it provide? Honest question from a civilian from outside the USA.

    • @bryaneberly3588
      @bryaneberly3588 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Richardsen It creates a stressful environment for the recruit to survive. Once a recruit gets past the stress caused by someone yelling at them constantly, messing with them mentally, while simultaneously putting their body through harsh physical exertion, that recruit will be able to survive anything thrown at them in the future. When that recruit becomes a Marine and moves on to a combat environment, they will be able to deal with the intensity much better than anyone who hasn't had the training.
      TL;DR: training to get over stress

      Thanks for your answer; I guess it is just like the old mott "sweat saves blood". I had gotten curious because I had seen some other training videos of different armed forces (the _Fallschirjägers_ of the _Bundeswerh_, for the example) and the instructors had a much more calm attitude. Of course, it may have been only because there were cameras around, but it still got me curious.
      Thanks again.
