I have always lived on the east coast of the United States and I fell in love with the Romanian countryside, traditional culture, and the rural way of life shown in National Geographic’s story on Maramures this past summer (see link below). DougRelf I am sorry for the long absence... i had a lot of stuff to do during the finals session, but until the beginning of June i will be able to answer your questions in shorter time. Firstly i wanted to translate the last song (first one you asked about) line by line (not that i couldn`t do that :D ), but i found its lyrics in romanian and i will try to make a resume about what it tries to express. So, basically, it`s a love song. Unfortunatelly my charm of describing things/facts is so inexistent it might lower your enthusiasm, but i will try to give my best: The lyrical ego, embodied in the singer, enumerates simple situations during his lifetime and adds to them the fact that there is nothing that can make him stop loving his beloved one. I said "simple lifetime situations" because is the simplicity that gives this song its beauty. I know that in translation, to you it might sound awkward, but i guarantee you that for the people who live there is as beautiful as it can get (they even start singing along the artist, as you noticed). I will give you some examples from this song: There is no morning he wakes up without missing her, there is no cold face wash he could take to stop thinking of her, there is nothing undearneath the stars to stop him loving her. I'm sorry for the possible mistakes i`ve done. I`m not really good at speaking English gramatically correct... I hope i answered to your first question as you expected. =D
