- Ethereum is the world's second-biggest cryptocurrency, and it's giving bitcoin a run for its money.

Ethereum once was seen as bitcoin's little brother. Now, things have changed.
The ethereum cryptocurrency, known as ether, has claimed a sizable share of the crypto market. And its underlying blockchain platform is powering innovations in the space, from decentralized finance to non-fungible tokens.
But technical issues with the ethereum network are proving costly, with users being forced to pay high "gas fees" to make transactions. And a flood of new tokens known as "ethereum killers" are hot on its tail.
That could be about to change as ethereum moves over to a new standard which proponents say will make it run more efficiently.

Many kudos to the Creator / Presenter. *** My two cents is: The major ETH v2 Upgrade will come in two substantial parts -- or phases. The first will complete the transition to Proof of Stake and end ETH mining (aka Proof of Work). That first phase is very likely to occur before the 2nd Quarter of 2022 ends. The second phase will incorporate 'sharding' technology, which will greatly increase the speed of transactions on the Ethereum blockchain network. That second phase is expected to occur in early 2023. Also, there will be several significant additional minor upgrades along the way. Ethereum's future is extremely bright. One might consider investing in ETH comparable to buying Google stock in 2004.

Ethereum might flip Bitcoin at some point, because it's a banker coin, but it will go back below BTC as countries adopt it and as it becomes the world's reserve currency.
Why wouldn't governments rather use Ethereum? It does more volume on it and they can easily link their national currencies up to it.

I agree, it's the future but how far into the future?
We can at most produce 27 transactions every second with blockchain so far and comparing that to the regular fiat currency network it isn't even 1/10th..
Until someone can come up with a cost effective blockchain, either forked or just plain new - the banking industry will remain the same.
Except that Ethereum is owned by banks and relies on Infura, which is owned by one guy. You are replacing banks with another bank.
For me, this is a profitable asset now. I spend most of my USDT to buy ETH and hold it.
I think that Ethereum is now quite a promising currency. Therefore, I prefer to buy ETH on Bitfinex and hold.

@@williamdolan7189 no it’s not. The merge is coming in a few months, but all that does is move ethereum from proof of work to proof of stake. It does nothing for the scaleability, but that we need to wait for sharding, which is still a long way off.

I would like to add that there are no humans controlling BTC, there fore it is just math and pure.

You just described why Ethereum is centralized and why it will never be sound money. The code will change if the landlords of the world want it to. there is another problem with bitcoin that people don't realize. the amount of bitcoin is limited and network created new crypto in order to reward the validator. if there is no bitcoin to give to validator from network, the transaction cost jumps too high.
I hate to say it but Dogecoin’s model of flat supply inflation is actually a good direction to move in for a number of directions.
