Awesome review. Great to see a young girl that's into knives. I've been into them for over ten years now. It's a great and useful hobby. Keep up the good work 👌👌👌.
I have the Mini in pink. I put a polished clip on it. The plastic doesn't bother me at all. I'd like to get one of the new Presidios with the Elite CF, but I'm trying to resist.
Nice review. Clear, crisp video. For me, the audio was a little too low. I'm watching on a phone. Take that with a grain of salt. How would you feel about receiving knives to review? I've seen other channels do that. Not sure how you feel about it.
Thank you. I had about 60% volume when I was recording it and was a bit loud when editing it. I’ll make adjustments. It would be cool to receive and review knives down the road. I’m still learning the hobby and I’m kinda enjoying it. Thanks for your input and thanks for watching.
Early in your video you said that this knife was discontinued. I had to double check that and it's still in production. The griptilian is arguably Benchmade's most popular knife model so it would be very big news if they stopped making it. What is discontinued is a particular scale pattern. The knife retailer "Going Gear" had an exclusive version of the griptilian where it was a black scale with a specific pattern on it. In the knife community we refer to these as "sprint runs" where they do a limited amount of knives for roughly a year and then stop production. Is that what you meant by the knife being discontinued? The handle material for this griptilian is Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon (FRN). It's a plastic as you pointed out. They also do a g10 material which is Fiberglass Reinforced Epoxy. Epoxy is a fancy word for glue. G10 is supposed to be the stronger material, but its more expensive. That info isn't relevant to this particular knife but may come in handy in the future. G10 is a very common material nowadays and it has made FRN obsolete. The Axis lock was invented and patented by Benchmade and was patented in 1999. During that time Benchmade had sole ownership of the Axis lock. But patents only last for 20 years, after which other people can market the design for themselves. The axis lock has been in the free market for a little over a year now so you're going to see a lot of other knife brands using the design but naming it something different, such as the able lock. The axis lock is not the most durable locking mechanism (omega springs break after a while) but it is one of the safest and also one of the easiest to fidget with. For that reason the griptilian is a common "gift knife" for trying to introduce someone into knife collecting. I didn't have any problem hearing you during the video. You speak clearly and the camera never went out of focus. My only real critique is that you're overly formal. You don't have to be so dry and factual. Reviews are opinion based so don't feel ashamed to elaborate on what you like and dislike about a knife. That's a majority of the fun in reviewing knives! And just curious, how did you come into the knife community? I skimmed through a few of your videos and some of the knives you've reviewed are knives that are hard to come by. I don't think you "chanced" upon a Shirogorov at your local Field & Stream store. It's something you need to know to look for.
Hello again, what I meant was my particular model was already discontinued. Ours was the 551-154CM Satin, and you can check them on KSF, BladeHQ, BladeOps and SMKW all listed as discontinued. My dad bought this knife early 2015. Regarding being too formal, I’m honestly a bit nervous reviewing these type of knives. I guess I just want to make sure I get it all correct. Also, I’m still learning as I go. I’m definitely having fun though. On my first knife video (Spyderco Para 3) I mentioned that during quarantine I became interested in the hobby because my dad is a knife collector. You should check out his IG page @j_o_e_l__06 I’ve been getting the knives that he isn’t using anymore. Thank you again and have a great weekend.
@@jadineorbe Don't stress the small stuff with your reviews. There's a few reviewers who estimate a blade length as "between 3 and 3 and ¼ inches" and nobody really argues with the creator about getting it exactly correct. I think we're more interested in how it feels in hand, what you specifically like about the knife and if it reminds you of any other knives you've handled before. There's a lot of great knives out there, "what makes this one stand out amongst the rest" is a question you should keep in mind when reviewing a knife. And one idea for a future video might be where you do an interview with your dad, if he's not camera shy. You can ask how he got started in the hobby, what some of his first knives were and what knives he's planning to add to the collection next. Whatever you think would be fun and interesting to ask. A few of your other commenters focus on you being a girl (which is a rarity) or you being so young, but what I think is the most meaningful part of your channel is how you use "we" "our" and "us" when people ask you about the knives. You getting into the hobby through your father is what sets you apart from other knife reviewers. It's really special and something I'm happy to see. Thanks for taking an interest in knives, I think you're going to like being a part of the community.
I always appreciate great advice and I know there are tons of great people in the knife community. I know I just joined but the amount of support I received on IG is crazy just by a simple tag from my dad. I also take all the advice and constructive criticism from people. It’ll help me adjust and tweak on how I present my videos. Maybe one day I’d feature my dad, that would be cool and I don’t think he would mind. Lastly, thank you for your insight and advice, I really appreciate it.
If you like neck knives, check out the Tops MSK, great lightweight bead chain/kydex sheath. The only issue is the blade is carbon which is prone to rust if not maintained. Great Review.
Question for you (or anyone else that might know). If someone custom-orders a mini black Griptilian, are there certain parts NOT to get black, due to easy scratching or it rubbing/wearing off? Also, best steel choice? Thanks!
The black coating is pretty durable but will show wear eventually. S30V are the most common steel for the Griptillian and people are happy with it. I have 154CM on mine and never had any issues with it. Just food prep, opening envelopes so not even considered a hard use knife. They also have a video on TH-cam where they abused this knife and it held up pretty well. Thank you for watching!!
Completely agree! This is a super easy carry option, but I would typically opt for something of a higher quality. Nothing against this knife! I really do like it. It just doesn’t feel the greatest on the hands.

I love the satin grind lines of the 154cm. The s30v looks borderline stonewashed
this is one that i never got around to getting but my friend said that hogue is making a version of ithow ever you spell it
Oh yeah I’ve heard about that! But I really do recommend this knife. A bit bulky, but a great carry nonetheless!
I have this knife and I added the Flytanium CF scales. Definitely enhances the feel and look overall!
That sounds really cool! Thanks for watching!!
Can you tell me what is the clip on the knife and where can I buy it?i
Excellent review on a great knife; made even better, by the young lady reviewing it! 😊
I really appreciate that! Thank you so much for watching! :)
@@jadineorbe ... You're welcome! Thought I subscribed earlier but, apparently didn't🤦♂️. Just did now though. 😁

Hi. The handles do feel cheap to me compared to some other materials BUT they are solid and light so these are adcantages.. All the best.

Very nice knife 🔪 👌
I can see why this is a staple in the EDC knife world. Great video!
Yeah this knife is a classic! I really want to get new scales for it though!! Thank you so much for watching ☺️
Me:tells whamen to cook
