    Great video Shelby! And thank you for pointing out the absurdity of that article suggesting skipping breakfast to "fight inflation". Skipping meals definitely does not need to be normalized.

      Intermittent fasting is actually pretty healthy and beneficial not just for blood sugar and your GI tract, but so much more. That being said, many people need to eat at minimum 3 small meals a day for health reasons, blood sugars, etc. so there goes that advice - you can’t give advice like that to the masses without getting into trouble

    I fight inflation by skipping breakfast, lunch, and oh what the heck, dinner too. I've been saving a lot of money and losing weight too! The negative side effect is that, well, I've barely had enough energy to type this comment, oh well...

    One thing I've done is to just cut out unnecessary spending. It sucks sometimes, but if you're looking at something it's helpful to think "do I really need this? If I get it, how long will it last?" Obviously I do still splurge sometimes, but it is FAR less frequent and it's smaller things like a snack item, or a book from Costco. Also I only go to really 3 stores on a regular basis; Costco, Target and Safeway (to a lesser extent).

    Quick note: If you're planning on maintaining a deposit over the fdic limit.. do the due diligence and read up on what the bank is doing with your money. In some cases the bank can give you crazy good interest rates because they in turn are lending that money out to risky borrowers at higher rates.

    Shelby COSTCO! A rotisserie chicken, organic Turkey, dates, nuts, chia, quinoa, oat milk, snack bars, frozen fruits, tofu, hummus, bread, the meats/ salmon, and a good set of Tupperware/silicon bags to store everything in the freezer in smaller portions in there really cut costs and gets you a long way. It came to a point when I saw my spending on groceries and thought it was ridiculous to spend that much on them, so I tried for 1 month and it’s worth it.

    • @ShelbyChurch
      @ShelbyChurch  ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I’m one person and I love Costco mostly because I cook for my dogs. Their organic ground turkey can’t be beat. Unfortunately it just went up from $17.99 for 3lbs to $19.99. But that’s inflation.
      I bought a BMW through Costco in 2004 and my house through them the next year. Always bought gasoline there. Tires as well. Now drive electric. I should have done my solar through them because that didn’t go well with a local company. Costco stands behind their stuff and the vendors who they link us to.

    Just a heads up, SoFi does not offer the 4% APY if you do not set up direct deposits from an actual employer. So if you are doing your own thing like I'm trying to do, you can't get access to the 4% APY on their savings accounts. They don't accept things like Venmo, Paypal etc. I didn't realize that until after I set up my account with them so hoping to save someone some time if they're also self employed. Great video Shelby, thanks!

It's good putting your money in a saving with a higher APY. It's smart to put your money in separate accounts not put all your money in the same bank.

    This is a great video! All of it adds up overtime. Keeping your money in an account with a high interest rate can make you up to 1,000 a year.

    Thank you for this I have seen these companies just freeloading off parents just trying to feed their families. I have been thinking that people will be outraged in the coming year when these food companies announce their record profits to the public, who innocently believed there was something else to blame. The 16% food inflation here in the UK does not add up to the absolute price gouging that is in progress in our stores. I cannot believe no one else is pointing this out.

    One thing I've been doing more of is DIY instead of buying. You can also sell stuff you make on marketplace and maybe discover a side hustle in the process.

    Thing to note VOO is an exchange traded fund (acts likie a mutual fund but has the taxes like a stock) This way investors don't get hit with capital gains each year like in a mutual fund. I shop online and bought basically all my Airbnb remodel furnishing using rakutan and got back 1000s. I too am doing dollar cost investing since January and will do so for the time being. great video as usual. Miss your vlogs hope you come back soon after your break.
