  • It's now over 20 years since the very first series of Wheeler Dealers was aired presented by Mike Brewer and Edd China, and we thought it was an opportune time to see if we could find out what happened to those early cars after they were sold.
In the Sixth Series, Mike & Edd had up to £5000 to buy and restore a classic car - remember cars and parts were a lot cheaper then....!
Originally WD was serialised in 30 minute episodes, with 2 per car, and these episodes of series 6 featured:
    1975 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4, Reg No ORC728P
1989 Classic Mini City, Reg No F402ORV

The no mot rule does affect our ability to dig into vehicles history.

Other than the hood wrap, that Mini looked beautiful. Very nice little car, and the interior was also very nicely made by WD.

The classic mini was seen alot at shows, it was very cheaply done and you could see the rust bubbling under the wrap
it was known the owner didn't really care for it and just abused it to death, surprised to hear its back on the road as I thought it would of been scrapped - good ending for once

Regarding the Wheeler Dealer calculations - the show has creative licence to publish whatever figures they want to in order to make the car look like a viable business transaction. I know this because another car that Ed worked on was shipped out to my pal who is a specialist in a particular model. He carried out a fair amount of work on the car including rectifying some of Ed's work, and issued them with a several-thousands pound invoice. The invoice was not included in the final numbers calc at the end of the show. If it had been, they would have been wearing ££££ loss 😕

So all this is pretty much a nonsense really, as the show is full of mistruths regarding costs, work done, & genuine buyers.
All for TV & no actual facts, in what is meant to be a factual program.

Just doing a little digging on the 308gtb4. More specificaly on production numbers as being orignally in Blue and RHD must be quite a uncommon combination. The only detail i have found out so far is 547 orignally came to the UK (according to The Maranello Conc. Archive on Ferrari Chat)

Bit confused with the 308. Cars over 40 years old don’t need a MOT or VED providing it’s been reclassified as a Historic Vehicle on the log book. I’d be surprised if it hasn’t after all who wants to pay VED if you don’t have to? 🤷‍♂️
