After season 1, we’re expecting that to happen too, as are the characters who are used to that happening as well. But throughout the whole season, it never happens until the very end (arguably). All the characters improve and become better, happier people. Despite Carmen getting locked in the walk-in, the soft launch is a success. After so much suffering and pain, the characters are allowed to be consistently happy. Until Carmen’s speech in the walk in rejecting happiness- then the shoes come down. Carmy pushes Claire away, and then Richie (who we can see has matured by shouting “I love you” over and over throughout his fight with Carmy). The others have all matured and broken away from the mindset of always waiting for the other shoe to drop because of Carmy’s actions so that he ironically stays the only one trapped. Okay, I’m wanting a discussion on whether Sydney is sick perhaps has Lupus like her mother. In the first season there was that cabinet full of medication. And there was that lingering, shot of her shoulder, like the camera wanted us to see something and then the vomiting. I am, not exactly, indifferent to Carmen and Claire making it as a couple, but am adamant that that is not what is going on with Syd and Carmen. I’m not sure why there is always a push to put the male a female lead into a romantic relationship. Syd is NOT crushing on Carmen for a boyfriend. She NEEDS a partner that she can trust to make her vision and goal happen. She is uncomfortable with Claire, because Carmen is dropping the ball on his responsibilities to fit her into his life. I would love Carmen’s arc to include a way to find balance between professional achievement and personal joy, but that is not Syd’s arc. I suspect she might be driven to achieve as she feels her time might be short, not because she wants to sleep with her partner.
I hope you're wrong, but you may have something here. It would explain Syd rejected Marcus, maybe it wasn't only because it was at work before a stressful evening, but because she's sick and he's already dealing with a sick mom. Who's cutting onions???
Excellent theory. I think Syd is so focused in the “building” phase that she’s not even interested in anything romantic with anyone at the moment. The focus she thought Carm had to have to become who he is.
Richie was the star of S2. I've watched ep7 to 10 multiple times now. Marcus' eps, and Tina's were really epic, too. I think it's clever writing. There is a lot of scope left to develop the other main characters and we didn't just get episode after episode of Carmy's neurosis, which are super intense.
SEASON 1 EPISODE 4 "DOGS", they explain why Cicero (or Uncle Jimmy) later never got Richie the job... he didn't answer Jimmy's wife phone call (or someone close to Jimmy) to fix a massive leak in the house that apparently ruined the property and Jimmy resented him for this. In the episode though they later found out that they never called him: she had called Michael's number...
Unpopular opinion- I liked Claire. She was sweet, thoughtful and knew and loved Carmy before he was a famous chef. Claire also has a very demanding job like Carmy, so i feel she could understand his career better than most; but seems writers didn’t go too deep into her character or maybe she’s just a bad actress. Syd and Carmy are great friends/colleagues that share a love and passion for their craft. He respects Syd; they speak so easily through food and she’s becoming like family to him but I don’t see the romance between them. He literally said Claire makes him so happy and he was just too scared to be actually happy. The scene everyone is referring to-when he’s having a panic attack and thinks of Syd and it calms him- I don’t necessarily think it’s Syd but more what Syd says to him in that flashback: “why are you here, you’re the like best chef”. It reminded him that he’s good, actually great and I think that’s what truly calms him. They’re like Don & Peggy from Mad Men. Mentor relationship. Also, Syd wasn’t jealous of Claire she just wanted Carmy to focus and be 100% committed to the restaurant (which is hard to do when you’re in love) because it’s to her and both of their benefit. I think she likes Marcus, always relaxed around him, but doesn’t want to be distracted by love or a relationship. She had a goal and that’s to get a star. Lastly, when Richie sends uncle Jimmy that banana 😢 I cried. Beautiful writing and arc for Tina, Richie and Marcus ❤
Yea I really didn’t get the romantic vibe between Syd and Carmy. I think Syd has high ambitions and are constantly evaluating if Carmy is the right business partner for her. That shows on the episode where she went talking to multiple chefs and mentors when Carmy was out with Claire. She didn’t seem too hard broken that Carmy couldn’t join her but used that opportunity to try new food and meet new people.
Agree with everything you said. I would add that the writers made Carm and Sydney a lot alike in their ambition, insecurities, ability or inability to experience joy and happiness, so they getting together would be too much and not work. Both need partners that balances them out, are yangs to their yins, and, so far, Claire and Marcus possess those more sedate, still, appreciate life qualities.
@@clamourincessant6974Marcus screaming at Sydney due to his insecurity around being rejected (by his boss… which she is) made me not want them to end up together. He was so unprofessional and disrespectful towards her that it made me think his crush on her is not based on respect for who she is or what she values. It was disappointing how immature he seemed towards her in the last episode. Sydney doesn’t need all that drama and lack of support.
Agreed. I don't see the sexual chemistry between Sydney and Carmy. Sydney has more chemistry with Marcus. I don't think she was jealous of Claire. It was more like she was having doubts of giving her everything in following Carmy when he's not the most stable person to be leading them. Carmy loves Claire, that's obvious, no notes.
seriously, if they can tie it all up in Season 3, they really should end it at Season 3. Nothing worse for a series to keep going and possibly get worse and then end on a low note.
I just hope that in season 3 (fingers crossed) we get a flashback about Carmy's time in New York and the relationship he had with Joel Mchale's character. Definitely didn't expected him to show up during Carmy's breakdown, hoping for the same tension as the 7 fishes episode.
Justice for Pete! Dislike for dislikable characters often spreads to the actor like a disease. A well-meaning simpleton driven by a genuine desire for love and acceptance by an extended family of in-laws incapable of accommodating him, and unwilling to try to meet his needs, creates some of the most frustratingly awkward moments in the series. Having said that, Chris Witaske stood inches away from Jamie Lee Curtiss as the two of them executed one of the most intensely complicated, meaningful, emotional, and tortured scenes I have ever seen in my life. With all of the power and the talent of Jamie Lee Curtiss pouring into Donna who is visibly, and painfully succeeding to contain a nuclear blast of her own chaotic energy for the sake of her children, Chris Witaske did not waste the opportunity of a lifetime. He delivered a stunningly powerful performance that brought, parity, escalation, and balance to the scene while keeping his compassionate, loving and optimistic character true, believable, relatable, and perfect. While Pete failed to negotiate with the trembling volcano of Donna, you could feel it when he gave permission for Donna to turn away. The tears at the table with Sugar were a 100% realistic trauma response. I have to believe that even Jamie Lee Curtiss herself was proud of Chris Witaske's performance in that scene.
Season 2 of The Bear was as good or better than the first and I loved it😊 The "Fishes" episode was one of the best episodes of television I've watched lately.. 👍👍💯
Season 2 is a great progression from the first season. The characters are given more depth, other problems of the restaurant industry are looked at, and the pace was great. One thing that I freaking hated was that they could not open the walk-in door. All you need is a screw driver to undo the latch!!!! That's it. The mechanism is outside!!! This isn't a regular door with the latch bolt inside the door and door frame!!! No need for a saw. Man, that upset me so much.
I was yelling at the TV for Fak to find a fuggin screwdriver! But Fak is FOH now and doesn't look like the guy who knows where the screwdriver is anymore. Happy I'm not the only one who thought that was an easy fix
In the walk-in coolers, I was around the inside push was designed to open from inside independent of the outside handle cooler and freezer doors are designed the same so that you can't be locked in. I suppose catastrophic damage to the outside latch might keep you out, but not in.
Oddly enough, on the news a few months ago, there was a manager at a Taco Bell who suffocated and froze to death due to a faulty lock on the freezer door. Carmy could have frozen to death. :(
I watched a lot of behind the scenes restaurants interviews lately. It seems that most of the time the restaurant owner/chef usually ended up marrying someone they worked with before or is from the restaurant industry. The wives can then raise the kids and also help out with the business. Claire as an ER doctor might be tough for both of them to find time developing a relationship with each other.
The first season was feel-bad throughout and feel-good for the last ten minutes. The second season was the exact opposite (with the exception of the flashback Christmas episode). What a gut-punch to end the season
Hard disagree with this take, I don't think Carmen and Sydney had any kind of romantic connection, I think there was just a power struggle between the shared dream of the restaurant, and Carmen and Claire's relationship. The struggle for Carmen was between ambition and happiness. Sydney and the restaurant are ambition, Claire was happiness. The struggle for Sydney was believing in herself. She was clinging to Carmy so hard because she didn't think she could do it without him which she had to face on opening night. I think her and Marcus and the awkwardness between them is if reflection of what carmy's going through with Claire where she doesn't think she can afford to make room for anyone. Point is I think what bonds Carmen and Sydney is ambition and that's what blocks out Claire, Marcus, and the general happiness of everyone involved. It really was Richie's season though ❤❤
Going from having a peaceful episode of Marcus in Denmark, to the anxiety inducing family chaos, to the redemption of Richie. This show is a slingshot of emotions. I haven't felt so exhausted since the first time I watched Breaking Bad. Exhausted not because of boredom, but from constantly having my adrenaline pump up and come down so quickly. I'm already excited for season 3!
for some reason i cant shake the feeling that something tragic is about to happen to Tina, she feels out of pace with the other characters as everything is on an upward swing for her and she shows so much appreciation and love for the group in a vocal way, which just feels like the writers are about to kill her off lmao
Isn't it sad that we've come to expect the worse out of every show? I got scared when Marcus helped the bicycle guy, when Richie was driving while singing Taylor Swift, when the staff had to let it rip without Carmy during the last episode. Things turned out ok in all of these situations, but we're so used to bad news that we expect it. What a relief when nothing bad happens! What I'm trying to say is, if something bad happens to Tina, I'm throwing the remote at my TV HARD.
I really hope they don’t end this show until Carmy works out his problems or self destructs. I need to know what happens. Also of great interest is what happens with Richie.
Was there any significance behind the fridge handle guys name being different then Sydney being sick right after was it her fault or what I didn’t understand thag
I think Sydney was sick because of repressed stress from the past weeks, trauma bc of the ticket machine breaking and because she realized that Carmy might be an unreliable buisness partner due to failing to call the fridge guy
And the name from the fridge guy probably kept being different bc nobody actually took the time to contact him and therefore nobody remembered his name properly
It's exceptional! It's about a high-end chef returning to his hometown, Chicago, to run his family's sandwich shop. The show highlights the process and impact of change on a group of ppl who are all at different stages/points in their lives.
She just completed her first night as head chef which was extremely stressful and now that the night was done, she fell from her adrenaline high and threw up from those nerves.
I don’t think that’s what it is! I believe that reason Sydney runs out of the restaurant and throws up is because the ticket machine didn’t stop printing tickets! If you look carefully at the scene there was no more paper! it stopped printing because there was no more paper in the machine! Hence you can hear the machine still moving in a rhythm trying to print but can’t because there’s no more paper. That’s why she runs out because she’s realized that they didn’t actually get all the orders but in fact missed some.
@@brucecardenas9366 That is Not true. There were no more orders. She was hearing phantom sounds. Her anxiety was so elevated that even when they were out of the woods, she couldn't bring herself out of it. If they missed orders, there would be patrons complaining. And since this is a soft launch with mostly friends in attendance, they would say something. Sydney seem to suffer a lot from anxiety, especially after her business tanked. Her fear of failure is felt the most throughout this season. She wants the Michelin star and all the glory of this life. There is a high cost to it. The better you get, the more insecure and anxious you become. Heck, Cami is amazing, and he thinks he is worthless. The final scene juxtaposes the hopeful music that signals new beginnings with the throwing up and smirk from Sydney. But as viewers, we should be taken aback and feel deeply unsettled. This feels inherently dysfunctional. I want to be happy for her, but at the same time, I am very scared for her. People tend to not come out whole on the other side of greatness.
I just finished watching the show. I loved it, except for the love interests. I think is an easier way to find a plot when characters are floating. If they're going to find him and Syd a partner that's fine, but please, writers, don't give much time to the show about it. The whole drama omg-she-heard-something-she-shouldn't is tired. Marcus is one of my favourites, to create tension I'd love to see his passion become destructive back to constructive again, and how that'd interact with Syd's personality.
I absolutely do not want romance between Syd and Carmy - it should be a protege’ mentoring friendship It’s important that we see more of those platonic relationships instead of romance
I truly hope that the show doesn't try to force a Sidney/Carmy ship. As soon as there is a boy and a girl on screen in close proximity, it seems like "oh, they must be in love" . Why can't they just be platonic coworker friends who push each other to be better. I don't think the way for either character to be happy is through the other, and the chemistry isn't there, it's friend tension, not love tension. Whereas Sidney and Marcus have love tension
IS NO OME GONNA TALK ABOUT HOW IN THE END OF S2 E9 in the end there’s missed calls and a message from Marcus’s moms nurse telling him to call back 😭😭😭 I hope she’s ok 😢
I think Sydney likes Marcus. She's just scared like Carmy. And i dont think Sydney and Carmy have romantic energy but definitely have a very deep attachment, which is probably why Sydney had negative feelings towards Claire.
Marcus screaming at Sydney due to his insecurity around being rejected (by his boss… which she is) made me not want them to end up together. He was so unprofessional and disrespectful towards her that it made me think his crush on her is not based on respect for who she is or what she values. It was disappointing how immature he seemed towards her in the last episode. Sydney doesn’t need all that drama and lack of support.
It started off great but as season 2 went on (The mother Cow), was too extreme! It was so Stupid! I Hated it... and I hope Jamie lee is put out of 'My Misery' or I will not be there for Season 3!
I think this reviewer is seeing too much with Sydney and Carm...they are friends an she just comes off as someone that respects the shit out of him and doesn't want his demons to ruin her chance at a star.
I really don't see a 'love triangle' with Carmy, Syd and Marcus being a thing. Maybe he loves Sydney, but it seems more like massive respect for a partner.
That's Marcus' grandmother, not mother. I love the 70's/80's style direction and film treatment this show has. It's so unique. My favorite shot was that terrible date Richie had and his walk after...it was very nostalgic to like, a John Travolta movie or something. Love it! But I don't think there is an ounce of romantic chemistry between Carmy & Syd so I really hope they don't take it there next season. She's better matched with Marcus but I think she's reluctant because of inexperience. I also really hope they don't make her gay...that trope is so played out now. It's an excellent show.
It might not be romantic, but they are definitely setting them up to be more than just mentor/partners. One important scene is when Carmy is having a panic attack, and tried to use his memories of Claire to bring him back. The only thing that actually breaks him out of his panic attack is him thinking of Syd, and he smiles.
Love triangle ??? There is no love connection between Karmey and Syd. They have never hinted to it. Syds big issue is respecting him as an amazing chef who she respects for his skill but also her realization of how deeply flawed he is as a person and how to balance that with opening a restaurant with him . Karmey needs to learn how to balance his professional and personal life. He was all in on the restaurant in season 1 and then season 2 he starts cutting his responsibilities for the new restaurant to see his new girlfriend . At the end he goes to ignoring every phone call and wants to cut his girlfriend off.
Interesting. I didn't think there was any romantic tension between Sydney and Carmie. It was a bit ambiguous but I just never thought that was what Sydney was after. She just seems so committed to her work above all else.
While Syd does have some skin in the game, the show constantly tries to portray her as Carmey's partner. She is his employee. She is putting up none of her own money towards the new restaurant. If it doesn't work out, she'll be upset, but then she'll get on with her life. The same cannot be said for Carmey, or even Richie. So when her 'contacts' tell her she has to have a partner she trusts.....no. She SHOULD be worried if the man she works for is 100% focused. And the supposed love triangle seems incredibly forced. There is zero chemistry in between Carmey and Syd. A lot of that comes down to the fact that Syd's actress just isn't very good.
That’s true I forgot about this detail. If I am giving up no getting pay for 6 months and I truly believe in this business, there’s a lot at stake. Syd’s dad also questioned her a lot and she saw a lot of nearby restaurants being shut down throughout the series. She needs Carm to be 100% focus otherwise they are all screwed.
I really like this series ,but I can not stand the actor who portrays Richard ,he is obnoxious, rude ,lazy ,mean all he cares about is himself needs to go !
Richie is an A hole but he's also funny an vulnerable I liked him from the beginning because he actually made be live an hate his character at the same time
When Ritchie kicks into gear calling the shots after Sydney says "drive" was so badass.
It is but this video didn’t even mention the fact that the reason Sydney runs out of the restaurant and throws up is because the ticket machine didn’t stop printing tickets because there was no more, it stopped printing because there was no more paper in the machine!
Yes yes yes! Couldn’t agree more!
And you nailed the Don/Peggy relationship comparison 👏🏼
Surpasses the first season and how. I was a chef for more than 20 years and this show keeps hitting home so hard. Easily one of the best shows on tv.
I worked as a cook for 6 years, damn this show got it correct. To correct, was getting non stop flashbacks. Hit the nail on the head.
seriously, if they can tie it all up in Season 3, they really should end it at Season 3.
All I can say is what a show! I was hooked all 2 seasons
👍👍💯
episode 6 is an all time episode of television. it was perfect from start to finish.
It was super uncomfortable to watch, but absolutely integral to understanding so much.
Season 2 will win many Emmy's! Every Episode Excellent!
Carmine already made his decision on Claire.... Im pretty sure that was the point
He loves her but he's not in love with her. That's what I was getting.
His love for cooking is bigger than his love for the girl.
I love this show!! Waiting on season 3.
great show indeed even i was thrown off a little by the ending
like damn so much is going to happen in s3
It really was Richie's season though ❤❤
couldn't agree with you more. i felt like Carm and Syd's relationship has always been a working one. Nothing romantic
I agree. I think Sydney was worried about Carmy distraction throughout the show which caused him to never get the freezer door fixed
The Richie actor was wonderful. Great actor too.
Yes I felt this way too!!!!
Disagree! The under the table scene was sexually intense.
What happened with the tickets machine near the end ?
Going from having a peaceful episode of Marcus in Denmark, to the anxiety inducing family chaos, to the redemption of Richie.
This show is a slingshot of emotions. I haven't felt so exhausted since the first time I watched Breaking Bad. Exhausted not because of boredom, but from constantly having my adrenaline pump up and come down so quickly. I'm already excited for season 3!
God it broke my heart seeing Calmy self-sabotage and convince himself he wasn’t allowed to love 😭
for some reason i cant shake the feeling that something tragic is about to happen to Tina, she feels out of pace with the other characters as everything is on an upward swing for her and she shows so much appreciation and love for the group in a vocal way, which just feels like the writers are about to kill her off lmao
Ive never gotten any type of bad vibes like the ones yall are mentioning
I’m calling 6 seasons at least.
Easily.
No. Wrap at 3 or max 4 seasons. I'd like it to end on high note like succession
More Tina. I need a backstory!
We do find out about Richie’s job with the uncle, during the birthday party episode that talks about how the phone numbers were confused with Mikey’s.
Love this show that epsiode with the whole family was insanely brilliant
I feel like Carmy got himself locked in the walk in on purpose.
🤔
@Looper. Nice summary of a great season. I love this show ❤
ty didn’t know it came out yet
idiot
Great show
Is this show good what's it about actually? I'm trying to decide if I wanna start watching it
It's exceptional! It's about a high-end chef returning to his hometown, Chicago, to run his family's sandwich shop. The show highlights the process and impact of change on a group of ppl who are all at different stages/points in their lives.
Yeah, what NBAgladiator said
@@NBAgladiator I could tell lip from shameless plays in it aswell
@@NBAgladiator thank you man that was actually very useful comment
It’s INCREDIBLE
Can’t anyone explain why syd was throwing up behind the dumpster on the last ep?
She just completed her first night as head chef which was extremely stressful and now that the night was done, she fell from her adrenaline high and threw up from those nerves.
@@daniJOY12 ohh ok I figured that Ty
Its been renewed for a season 3!!! Yay
Take a shot every time you hear “Jagoff” in episode 6!
Me finding out that S2 of The Bear dropped
I can’t wait till next June 😞
This is such a masterful use of a thumbnail. Dude isn’t getting even 10% of the views without a picture of attractive girls in weird hats.
I absolutely do not want romance between Syd and Carmy - it should be a protege’ mentoring friendship
It’s important that we see more of those platonic relationships instead of romance
seaon 3 and 4 is filming back to back and will be ready in late 2024
Has Carm not heard of a hairnet!
Perfect take.
Yup. Like someone else here said, it's kinda like Don and Peggy from Mad Men.
No Marcus an syd have no romantic chem they could be family
WTF looper..you said explain the ending. Not a recap of the entire season!!
Alright I can’t handle this. This is the most shallow breakdown of the show. Whoever wrote this clearly did not get the show and the themes.
My anxiety was on 11 every second
Best fucking show ever made.
Fucking loved this season! ❤👩🏽🍳
Great second season. Didn’t like the last episode end though.
What are these family traumas they all suffer from?
Gotta disagree on the Tina take.Syd earned Tina's respect, Tina was not the insecure loser the narrator implies.
Agreed!
It started off great but as season 2 went on (The mother Cow), was too extreme! It was so Stupid! I Hated it... and I hope Jamie lee is put out of 'My Misery' or I will not be there for Season 3!
❤
Greenlight season 3!
Why and how would this show not be renewed lol
I hope Carly and Sydney never, ever, get together. They should be best friends, though.
Your assessment of Tina was wildly inaccurate
I think this reviewer is seeing too much with Sydney and Carm...they are friends an she just comes off as someone that respects the shit out of him and doesn't want his demons to ruin her chance at a star.
I really don't see a 'love triangle' with Carmy, Syd and Marcus being a thing. Maybe he loves Sydney, but it seems more like massive respect for a partner.
So dumb. every fridge or freezer Walk in has an emergency release from the inside
I get what the writers were going for but...
Yeah I would think so because - LAWSUITS. Hello!
The only good part of this second season was the redemption of Richie.
It's an excellent show.
why is everyone trying to say Syd and Carmy together. I just don't see that kind of romantic chemistry.
@@MuMasoo But he's been through so much more with Sydney, and Im picking talked at a deeper level. Claire for Carmmy!
Y’all analysis way too basic. It wasn’t a simple love triangle lol
I don't see any romantic feelings between syd and carmy. She is clearly normal around him not nervous or or too focused on him outside work.
Interesting. I didn't think there was any romantic tension between Sydney and Carmie. It was a bit ambiguous but I just never thought that was what Sydney was after. She just seems so committed to her work above all else.
His assessment of Tina was weird too. Implying she wasn't liked til the end. And in season 2 she sucked up to sid🙄
If I give up 6 months of my salary I’d want a piece too. I don’t think he’d expect anyone to give up their salary and not expect anything in return.
@@NKim-gj9vkexactly, the 6 months of no pay is the money she’s putting into the business. So yes she is absolutely his partner.
Carmy wants her as a partner..that's all that matters
I feel like we watched a different show but okay...
I really like this series ,but I can not stand the actor who portrays Richard ,he is obnoxious, rude ,lazy ,mean all he cares about is himself needs to go !
Did you watch episodes 7-10 of season 2?
bro sleeping on one of the best redemption arcs a TV series have to offer
Richie is an A hole but he's also funny an vulnerable I liked him from the beginning because he actually made be live an hate his character at the same time
Sydney is not a strong CDC.
Such a great show.
