  • After touring the herbarium and hortorium at Cornell University, one of our friends tipped us off about a "mushroom museum", which is a fungarium (new word for us!) known as the Cornell University Plant Pathology Herbarium. Well, we never ventured into a fungarium before, so we thought we'd pay it a visit and lo and behold-it did not disappoint. Thanks to Kathie Hodge and Teresa Iturriaga for the grand tour.
You can find out more about the fungarium and its copious online sources here: cup-herbarium....

I'm SO HAPPY you not only did a video documenting this Fungarium, but that the video is so long!!
    GREAT JOB!!!
Yes, fungi certainly are having a moment!!
And I am TOTALLY here for it!!!
I could've watched this video for many, many, more hours!!
I would love to spend weeks in there listening to ALL the stories! (Or even years, just whatever it takes!!) I can't seem to get my fill of myco information!
Here in Texas, (UT) the University of Texas, has only recently started an official Fungarium, altho I believe the collecting has been going on for quite some time.
Just as y'all were talking about over there at Cornell, the fungi collection over here has always been a part of the Herbarium.
But now the fungi have their own designation over here too -
    An Official Fungarium!
    Which is pretty fabulous!
Our local Mycology club is encouraging us all to send in our local fungi!
While the collection is no where near as extensive as what they have at Cornell, it's all pretty great that mycology is becoming mainstream.
    AS IT SHOULD BE!!!
For the love of all things mushie-
    Thank You
    Thank You

Hello from Germany :) you asked the community about the origin of the mushroom models.I think they come from the famous manufacturer of anatomical models and teaching aids "Somso" from Germany. They were used in universities in Germany. The material they are made of is called "Somsoplast".
Great video. I love your content!

I am studying at the botany department of University of Calicut, Kerala, India.
We have an excellent fungal diversity division here. Many species of basidiomycetes have been described from our campus. The most interesting among them are Auriculoscypha anacardiicola which enslaves a coccid insect.

I have been fascinated by mushrooms since I was four and found my first morels. The more I find out about them the more I want to know. Of late I have been finding out more about the mushrooms that can be used as natural dyes. And to think we know so little of the kingdom of life. When they care so important for all life.

That was fun. Kathie and Teresa were so enthusiastic in their explanations of fungi and mushrooms. This channel is very educational. Not knowing much about mushrooms...other than the ones I buy and eat from the market, lol...I learned something new. The bug eating ones, cordyceps, using insects as hosts to spread their spores....even dictating the bug behavior....I never knew. I liked the the earthstar fungus, which looked like an eyeball. The phallic/peen ones...on my! Nature is sure crazy and interesting. Everything is so interconnected in nature...and dependent on each other to survive. Great video...thanks!🍄🍄

WOW! amazing video, enjoyed every second. the german mushroom and resin yeast mold models were incredible. when i was a kid i had my bedroom designed like a natural history museum\laboratory and my dresser was lined with preserved wet specimens and the walls covered with photographs of nature, so this whole video brought back all those great memories of exhilarating new discoveries. for your young (older too) watchers any of the books by gerald durrell would be a fantastic and hilarious adventure. when i was a little kid my parents would take me to slide show presentations by adventure naturalists and this video was just as exciting. great job guys!

      Oh The Durrells!
I must admit, I've not read any of Gerald's books, and the only thing I know about the family is the PBS tv series production based on the family.
      Which I thoroughly enjoyed!
