Hey Rusty, I'm hitting 70 next month. I've traveled extensively over the years. Many wonderful experiences. I have to admit, the excitement and enthusiasm for new experiences has changed. More and more, I enjoy the simplicity, peace, and comfort of being in one place for a period of time. Thanks for sharing.
Back here near “Bracketville” pleasant weather And you could always come back here and live in a real house with heat and air have room to ride that trike and drive golf cart.
Remember when you were a kid and once or twice a summer you’d get the bright idea to pitch a tent in the backyard and sleep out overnight? And remember how you’d usually wake up about 2:30 in the morning cold and damp and decide that your nice warm comfortable bed was a better option? That’s the way I feel about boondocking……..😂
The less stuff a person owns the better. Your possessions own you. Simplicity and convenience rules. If you want to eat BBQ, just go to a restaurant, don't buy a smoker and wood and charcoal and an ash bucket and a shovel and go through the work of cooking and the work of cleaning up the mess... The same mindset applies to RV living.
@@MegaValuedcustomer I don’t completely agree with ya . It is nice to eat out now and then. Going out for BBQ cost 60.00 bucks for two. I can buy a brisket for that price and have 8 meals ! I just use a basic round Weber grill . Just me ! 😁

I'm 78 years young and I agree 100 % with what you said. I like state parks. In Ohio Since I have a senior card, I can stay at 13.00 a night. Plug in 30 amp and have electricity for heater or air conditioning. Have shower and bath room facilities if I want. watch TV, computer, stay warm or cool according to weather. Less work more time to do other things that I enjoy, like bike riding, fishing or what ever?
I don’t think you are fickle, Rusty! I think you are adventurous! Look at all the things you are willing to try! Most people don’t get past the thinking stage. Adventure on Rusty, and I’ll be on my couch cheering you on!🎉
At 79 plus, which I am too, comfort outweighs stargazing and roughing it every time. Been there, done that. If you can afford to be comfortable at 79 plus why the heck not? you’ve earned it.
There have been some dramatic improvements in easy to use mini telescopes (50mm) or so , especially for casual astrophotography. They're around $350-$500 for something that might re kindle some night time enjoyment. just tell it what star system you want it to point to and a few seconds later after initial calibration set up(like starlink has to figure out where it is) suddenly M33 or some other thing pops into view...all done via a bluetooth phone app for the most part.
Reinventing the wheel doesn't appeal to me either...worked hard many years and now it's time to reap the harvest, not to shop for another mule and plow.
I found the best solution was to do both. Boondocking out in the desert gets old after 4-5 days and I am ready for an RV park, but at the same time the busy RV park gets old after 4-5 days and I am ready to be out in the middle of nowhere again, but I am also half your age lol
Age is a cop out. Lots of older folks enjoy boondocking. Sounds like you just don't like the the hassle of it all, which is perfectly understandable. It's a compromise ..privacy of boondocking, which I am afraid your wrong in saying can be had anywhere you go, and certainly not at privately owned RV parks where they pack you in on top of each other ...or living on top of each other in that RV park with a electrical outlet and a water spigot.
I live in a ClassC, but go to PA from 5 to 6 months a year to help my 91 year old mother. I found taking my Ford Econoline van easier as she's in a home now & it's way easier to park the van in that small parking lot. Easier on gas, I can do back country road exploring, visit folks & such more. However, that also means portable solar panels, power stations, portable ac, small generator, etc. I travel with my pets & they need the comfort. RV parks up there are just too expensive. But it's a hassle trying to find places to park. It's a hassle moving the solar panels all day. It got easier with charging the power stations up with the generator. But it's also a lot of work!! I totally get where you're coming from. Happy Holidays! ✌🤶🎄🎅
Just got a new 32 ft bumper pull trailer. The maker wanted solar packages from $10-23K! Did not pencil out. For the $23K you could run the AC a good part of the day. Did not pencil out.
Hey Rusty: Plamosa Rd is where I stay when I come to Quartzsite. I usually only stay a few days on my way through there. I know you may know this area, but if you like rocks and minerals there is a great place on Main Street I think it is. Come down 95 from the north into town, turn right on Main. It;s about a mile down the road on the north side of the street. It's called Gem world I think. Then there is a place behind that. about a 100 yards north that has all of this metal work, cast iron and tin. These places are amazing to see and the amount of stuff I've never seen before and at very low prices is unbelievable. Have fun!
Since I'm retired I'm back and forth between minimalist and accumulating stuffs 3 time s. Now I'm trying to get rid of most of my possession and back to minimalist
I agree the older you get convience is everything! When you were keeping up all those gauges daily, I said too much for me. At least you tried it and came to a conclusion!
You don’t need to be in QS. I had been going the last three years and came to the conclusion that there are too many people. You might try Yuma. Much more friendly. I got you on the solar stuff. If your not techie you can spend a lot of money and be stuck with something that doesn’t work. I’m techie and need to chase down equipment issues from time to time. You need a workable plan A, B and C if you have time. It works for me but definitely can see your point. Been following you for years from time to time. Great to see you’re still at it! Carpe Diem!
Absolutely, do you! Keeping it simple can be the way to peace and happiness, Amigo. I check out my sunrises and sunsets when I wish to, and do whatever else I might take a whim to wanna do. Embrace your freedom. It's the little freedoms that make us smile. Enjoy whatever you wish to do. I keep watching because you're my friend. The Rangers are my friends, too. We understand.
I sure agree. I don't want to hook up stuff ,and deal with wondering if it will work, or does work. Really, I've got to keep things simple. Good talk , again Rusty!
At eighty one and with over fifty years of camping in every kind of rig I feel like you do. Plug in hook up don’t worry and go have a good time. I have no watch wonder what day of the week it was so I watch you and bang I know all I need to know. R I G H T N O W!!! Good luck with your search. John
I don't blame you, Rusty. Rv parks are just enough modern to be comfortable at any age in 2024...still somewhat of a Hassel but enough to be comfortable. Boondocking is something completely different: like living in the old west with early 20th century amenities. Why if you don't have to? Good for you!
Know what saved me lot of gas ? Heated seats, running hybrid heater is the best heat but a blanket and heater seat is my way Getting heat from the engine is great going down the road it's going to cycle enough to heat fluid required for heat. We're not talking seriously cold tonight 38°.
Your set up, with power, is fine for road trips to just pull over and enjoy a few hours and then move on. Do what you want for as long as you want because at your age it could end in the blink of an eye.
Unfortunately solar just aint there yet! As far as cutting holes in your RV just dont do it!!!!! You will eventually have leaks that you just cant stop!
Rusty I am happy you going to a RV park. That way you can leave your car if need be. And as you said get your mail..and you can go to ltva anytime to visit friends. On your time. And we'll I questioning it also. But as I said I am duh. Hugs and hope you are enjoying your nite.Angela NC ❤❤❤😊
Nothing wrong with trying anything you want to try, and then eliminating the things you don't want to keep doing. That's sort of how life works. Boondocking is not the worst thing to try now and them. It's not as if you have to pay for a divorce to stop doing it.
