I just love it! Here is a trick my husband uses he has a flashlight kinda like a headlamp and he will shine it on the item and look it over really good and you can really see what is missed. Its really helpful!! Thanks for sharing this project with us!!

A flashlight even in daylight? I’ll have to try that! I bet it helps remove shadows and gives even light so things pop…especially white peeking through. Thanks!! 😁💙

I love that shade of blue. Rocking chairs are not my favorite things to paint! I run into the same problems that you did and causing myself more work. You did a fantastic job and thanks for sharing your do's and don'ts. I'll be painting two rocking chairs when I get in the mood. They're black and I want a more cheerful color but I haven't decided on what color yet.

Wondering if a scotch bride pad would be too harsh instead of a micro fiber cloth.?
Since using sandpaper after anyway.

I think if you are doing a good sanding you could skip micro fiber or scotch brite pad? I used micro fiber phase to knock off outdoor dust so I could see what really needed sanding. The porch dust gets THICK so I wanted to clear that layer to asses. 😊 come to think of it, the rocker could use a good wipe down this week to cut the dust and get it ready for a sunny day. 😊 TFW and commenting. 😁💙

It was outdoor/exterior house paint, so yes. There is also paint called "marine paint" that is for oars and boats. That would be SUPER durable and not something I have on hand. It's usually glossy too.💙

my rocking chair was painted with white rub off, powdery paint. how can i paint over it?

Sounds like homemade chalk paint or something? You could sand it? Sanding it might be a pain, but likely to work well. Might be a lot of work?
OR You might try to dust it with a cloth really well then do a test patch with spray paint, let it dry all way and see if it sticks, covers it up?
OR It’s possible that a brush on primer would seal it up too?
If you have supplies on hand for any of these ideas that’s what I would try first. 😁🤞💙

Painting a chair is not refinishing it refinishing is varnish which it was originally believe i just got done sanding one some A hole painted on top of varnish/finish 3 coats was like a rubber coating on chair was horrific & disgraceful to destroy a beautiful piece of hand craftsmanship with paint & pple dnt even sand it down first & act like they did something special lazy AF
