Hey I can't wait for your review on the old Cold Steel saber and your Dbad hognose finally finished. I just hope that one day Lynn can buy the company back one day.
The CS Mayhem costs €.399,00 here in Europe. For that kind of money I expect nothing less than perfection. And, at any price point, if they for any reason send me a dud, wich can happen in any company, I expect a new one as I send in that dud. That is just normal decency!
AINT NOTHING GREAT ABOUT BILLY FORD. 😂😂😂 But thank you for the kind words bro. Can't wait to heat treat the hognose. Omg that thing looks amazing. Thanks for trusting me with that. What number would you like me to target for the hognose ? I'd assume 57-59 with it being hard use in 1084 but if you want it softer or harder, I can shoot for. I want to approach this heat treat test in a completely unbiased way. People know I loved my mayhem , but ..I'd be a liar if I told you I hard used it. I just didn't. I do have a guess as to what I think happened to the tip. Those things are cnc ground in a machine. It's quite possible that their was a coolant issue...the blade overheated , especially in the thinner areas , such as the tip...but I don't wanna approach this with me being sold on my guess. If it test strong on the spine ...it's stainless , which means it should have a consistent heat treat through out the blade. Assuming this is the case...it should have been uniform allllll the way to the tip ...unless something happened in manufacturing that might have jeopardized the integrity of the vulnerable areas. I've had a bad spyderco ...out if the 25 or so I've owned and I'm here to tell you...the fan boys are real...and they have all the excuses. The difference is , spyderco would replace my blade if I let them.
Spyderco definitely stands by their product. Because they know they make them right. I have to assume there is fluctuation in the heat treat since the middle of the edge took such a beating without issue and the tip went over on a mild toss. I think 57-59 will be fine. Feel free to do a virgin test on video with it. Right now its a one off, so you'll have the only vid on it until its finished

That's true what Lynn C. Thompson used to do. And, those, like your Espada, all had reinforced Blade Tips... This one doesn't. It's Blade Tip Design reminds me of Spyderco Blade Tip Designs... This one, to me, looks like it was meant to be a Big and Sinister Slasher, in my opinion... :-) I will be watching to see what the Heat Treat is... :-) I totally agree that the Cold Steel Customer Service needs to step up to the plate. :-) I hope yours was just a bad one... :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
I wonder if during the grinding if they burnt out the heat treatment of the tip. The tip should never have bent like that. Regardless of what anyone has to say.
