I'm currently reading "War and Peace" by Tolstoy published around the 1860s about the goings on in the early 1800s. After each chapter I write quick, short remarks in the margins. Most fall within the idea of, dang, we're so similar, we humans as cultural beings, as social groups, we really haven't evolved all that much since then. A pessimistic mental image, I know. But the truth that I have faith in is that we really are essentially beautiful and we really do belong to each other. To organize ourselves not around nations but for the purpose of maximizing the best aspects of our humanity. Thanks, Tara.

I like how Kitty's father instructs her to repeat a tricky passage on piano 50 times.. I read this "50 times" is found by research to be an appropriate number to correct a mistake!
Not sure if it was in W & P, one of the 19th c Russian novelists wrote into dialogue, something like: what is it with young people today? They don't (or won't) measure up.
      Sounds familiar.

I felt the way Angie did. I came to the conclusion that no one understood me. Being g heard and understood was so important to me that it's been my mission to find my people. Meaning people that are like me, like the same things, think the same way, have experienced similar things. I have outgrown my friends and in search for those likeme.

The questioner needs to be listened to and heard as well by others. She may be in relationships where it is not a two way street. Is there a power imbalance? Concerned other questions needed to be asked as well. Being heard & expressing our feelings safely with others is necessary for our well-being, too. Balance!
