Marty is my favorite. I like "Big Iron" best, and "Smoking Cigarettes and Drinking Coffee Blues". But "Singing The Blues" and "Five Brothers" were also great!

Marty Robbins was a good friend of my friend Sterling Marlin's dad, Coo Coo Marlin.
They both raced at Nashville speedway
They were close friends.Lord the stories that were told..😊

Marty is about as old school as it gets. He performed Country and Western songs. They are two different genres.
He also pioneered Outlaw Country as well.

I love Marty Robbins. Such a great singer and song writer. Check out some of his others including My woman, my woman my wife; Some memories just won’t die; and El Paso.
Ps… it’s funny that he sings about being tall. He was actually a pretty short.

Amazing storytelling, and that twist at the end.😱 Great vocals. You should hear "Bowie Knife" by Frankie Laine, my dad went to school with him as a kid.

Please listen to Marty Robbins' "El Paso". It's one of his best known songs and a favorite of mine since I heard it as a child. The studio version has incredible guitar playing by Marty Robbins ...and of course the cool story-telling. ( Don't confuse it with "El Paso City"...the song is just "El Paso" 😉)

This was the flipside of Mr Shorty in the States, it was written by his band member Henry Durrough. Marty rarely ventured outside his own songs or ones done by band members or Jeanne Pruett. This way his publishing companies had the royalties. You may wonder why and the probable reason was not only Marty's incredible vocal gift which was matched to his writing ability, but the fact that previously he wasn't too enamoured by Columbia covering his recordings with Guy Mitchell versions.
If you're looking for another song by Marty, you should try 'Ghost Train', which features some of the greatest guitar work by Hank 'Sugarfoot' Garland who sets a blistering pace along side the usual great Robbins vocal. I don't think Marty ever sang this song live, probably due to the fact that the superb guitar playing couldn't be replicated, but that's just my opinion.
I enjoyed your review and the appreciation you gave to one of America's greatest ever singers. Thankyou.

Every thing Marty sings, whether it’s one of hie own or a cover,he always brings something special to it, I’m happy listening to anything he sings but The Alamo and one you never hear The Chair, just come alive in your head. You might give them a listen

I think you would like Marty Robbin’s, “My Woman, My Woman, My Wife”. There is maybe 3 different videos of him singing this song.
