    What we call bush meat in Nigeria is what you guys call game meat in the United States. The difference is that in the U.S., you guys do the hunting and share amongst relatives, but in Nigeria and other African countries, there are open markets for selling bush meat (aka game meat in U.S.)

    People in Louisiana literally eat some of the same "strange" things
    Nigeria: grasscutter, snake, crocodile
    Louisiana: nutria rat, snake, alligator
    Bushmeat is just what Americans call game meat

  • @fisheye375
    @fisheye375 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I’m Cameroonian and I ate all of this😂😂. Some were good. Others atrocious. But it was meat we ate from centuries in Africa. Not a thing we need to feel ashamed. But yeah we need to study those a bit longer to reduce virals outbreaks and other things. Never been sick tho.
    BUT old people know well what to eat and what to avoid. And we have proverbs about all those things because in Africa we have oral traditions.
    We know. When a pregnant women shouldn’t eat this and if a child shouldn’t eat that. We even have rituals just before we eat some bush meats. It’s all in our grand mother proverbs.
    The real problem occur when people from cities or who doesn-t know the locals proverbs begin to eat everything without restrictions.
    NEVER TRIED maggot tho….! Too much for me😂😂

    A lot of these animals are now been farmed like grass cutter etc. While some are sacred animals not eaten by indigenes and are allowed to live like humans, if you kill them as an indigene, you perform a full burial ceremony for the animal like a human funeral 😳. However non indigenes can have them.

    Watching this I had to keep reminding myself that from the outside looking in some of what Aussies eat looks strange too. Personally I've eaten plenty of Kangaroo and I once tried Emu. We also sell Crocodile meat. A classic amongst our Indigenous population is Witchetty Grubs which are similar to those Maggots. They can be eaten either alive or cooked, I'd probably opt for the later. You might also be asked if you'd like to eat part of a live Ant that apparently tastes like honey.
