Omg guys!!! Thanks for reacting to Lexie Liu!!! Lexie, being a chinese singer-songwriter, is known for her talent as a creative female musician, and already got some recognition around the world (North America, Europe etc.), not just in Chinese-speaking regions. Her outstanding *multilingual lyrical writing style* (she writes and owns her songs), and able to seamlessly connect *mandarin, english and even spanish* in an extremely smooth way is just unrivalled when compared to other Chinese musicians! She also actively engages in the production and mixing part of her music, showcasing her ability to be a singer, songwriter and a producer at the same time. Also, Lexie is a multi-genre artist as well, she actually took more of a hip-hop/rap vibe in her early albums (I mean she is really young, born in 1998, and already released three full length albums and one ep, and has genre transition to Indiepop, Synthpop, Electronic, Industrial Rock etc., since she wants breakthrough being a songwriter, instead of forever staying in one fixed genre). As such, I recommend you guys to react more of Lexie’s music, especially in her latest album The Happy Star: Fortuna (4m+ view for an indie artist, a lot of Spanish in this one), Magician (3m+ view, you guys already reacted), Dance Dance (2m+, an 80s/00s bop!) and her EP Gone Gold: ALGTR (brilliant 80s synthpop), Chu Chu (indie RNB), L (80s Nu-Disco vibe) and Shadow (mixed synth-rock vibe). And, If you are interested in her early vibes, I recommend to react to Manta (literally her biggest biggest hit, 7M+ view, and her most notable song in China) and 佳人 Jia Ren, which is fantastic as well.
As for the Industrial Rock vibe mentioned above, I recommend the song *DIABLO* from her latest album (also have a video for this song), and it is good to do a reaction! You guys gonna love it :)
I think you should try something from her album Meta Ego, that was her best work in my opinion. Particularly, Manta was her biggest hit and had a great video as well.
This song is about writing and creativity, there's a lot of shots in the MV where she writes with a pen, and then later the "floor" she stands on is patterned exactly like her writing paper. With lines like "wand in my hand, with power to create the world", the "wand" is a pen, with the power to create new worlds from Imagination. I suppose it could also be seen as creaticity/creation vs predeterminism
I low-key can understand why Toy did not enjoy that much, cause he might not a big fan of this kind of high-density synthpop (in MAGICIAN the synth nearly goes to a noisy side, though for me it's still a bop hahah). But, as I said, MAGICIAN is just one of the Lexie's songs, one of her genres and styles. Lexie has other bops that take on simple and clear vibes. I highly recommend *ALGTR* (with a high budget music video taking on a hypnotic 80s new wave but with futuristic feelings), *L 了* and *CAROUSEL (Live Performance at Stage Boom), it is a live version, highly recommended* for Toy to listen or react, and I think he probably will enjoy more!😊
OMG! I've lived to see it (I immediately saw your reaction after posting - like a psycho). I felt a little embarrassed, but honored at the same time. A memorable moment, I download the video (I hope that's not a problem) and it goes into my souvenirs. And why this particular song? It was an accident, because TH-cam recommended it to me, and when I saw and heard it, I immediately said to myself - Goy will be delighted. And I was right. :) And well done Goy! You remembered my name and nationality! :) So now I'm going to think about what new to recommend and I will remind you of me from time to time. Sorry, Toy! But maybe this time I'll find something to your taste. But I'll wait a bit and give others a chance. :D XOXO EDIT: And Toy, Lexie Liu also has another song that I really like. Maybe you'll like this one. Completely different than Magician, it reminds me more of the atmosphere of Silent Hill. You can check it out (you don't have to react), I wonder if you would like this song better. Lexie Liu - Hide and Seek.
@@ToyAndGoy and I thank you for your channel. non-standard and interesting? If we talk about kpop then stray kids is absolutely mediocre no? Interesting is debatable but non standard?? In what kind of way? They’re totally mainstream
@@m_6nus I would agree if these standards were everywhere and we saw a huge number of similar projects around the world in every country. But even among pop music there are unique variations associated with the flavor of certain countries. Korean pop is still distinguishable from other pop groups around the world. Living in my country and seeing, for example, the pop music that is here, for me it is quite unique, especially if I don’t listen to it every day. It doesn't mean that popular music can't be unique or interesting in some way.

Hii Toy and Goy!! I’m from China but currently living in France and I’m super excited that you guys finally decided to listen to something from China! I never heard of Lexie before this so I checked and I would say that she is considered popular among the Chinese people but definitely not one of the mainstream artists. It seems like she has her unique style and what you’re hearing is definitely not a traditional C-pop sound. And for your confusion, I wanna say that it’s pretty common for Chinese artists to include some lyrics in English in their songs and sometimes they also have songs entirely in English. It’s the “hip” thing to do, if that makes sense. But anyways, love you guys and your videos!!! If you wanna listen to more stuff from China, I recommend 烟火里的尘埃 (The Dust in the Fireworks/Ashes from Fireworks) by 华晨宇 (Chenyu Hua), he is one of the most popular artists in China right now. Here’s a link to the music video: th-cam.com/video/SDhd4raC2xI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KO-eREpUJPuSiK3k or if you prefer live: th-cam.com/video/4ji8-2f0B1Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=02d4oH836acyNIUi
@@m_6nus I’m sorry but Lexie is more of an indie artist (not signed to mainstream label) so it’s kinda difficult to measure her long-term popularity, especially her music style and genre is actually *hard* for a lot of mandarin pop listeners to accept, and become *indie* when compared to some mandarin pop big names. That’s another reason why it is not okay to find a EU/NA artist to equivalently measure Lexie’s popularity, since her genre might make her a major indie star in ‘western’ music industry (Lorde, Tinashe, Grimes, just randomly listed). However, she really rose to her fame in her hip-hop era when the song *MANTA* rose to a hit in 2020. It’s a big hit for her for sure.
And she still didn’t satisfy to stay in one fixed genre, so she turn directions from hip hop to synth pop/synth rock/indie etc., and lot of people haven’t notice that… but now more and more know her songs in Gone Gold ep and The Happy Star album, which is a good trend.
@@2010manto yeah I know Manta made her a lot more famous but as a western fan ist’s so hard to understand the dynamics of Chinese artists because the scale is a lot bigger compared. But for example she has 7.4 million followers on Weibo wich is a lot but then again is it really a lot for Chinese stands of popularity? That’s why i commented xd cuz a Chinese person would have the best insides
@@m_6nus Heeello :), sorry for the late reply. I can confirm I am a Chinese and I would say WeiBo is probably like Instagram or Twitter, there exists a lot of unreal followers (zombie account) for a musician (or celebrity in other industries) who gains a level of popularity. As such, I would say if you would like to check on real popularity for music. Music platforms like QQMusic or NetEase Music, which are major music apps among Chinese music lovers, could give some proofs. For example, you can check on the number of comments for Lexie's songs on these two platforms. The comments are actually not a lot, when compared to some bigger names, like Jay Chou etc. Apart from the music apps, video playback volume is another proof. Lexie’s MV playback volume on TH-cam is at least 20 to 40 times that of bilibili (a mainstream and trendy Chinese video website, where Lexie has an official account as well), which also proves that Lexie’s music is relatively underrated in Chinese-speaking world, and many people still have the impression that she is a "female rapper" (but in fact she is not just that, and her music styles are very diverse) Also, as you say, the scale, is a bit different to compare. Since Mandarin Pop is just a universe, and it includes a lot of genres, which is kinda diverse as well. However, only few genres (or the way of music expression) are wildly accepted in mainstream, but Lexie (being a multi-lingual, multi-genre songwriter + solid producer + relatively young) is not among those 'mainstream' names. So, that's the reason why I classify Lexie as an indie artist in Mandarin Pop world. Anyway, I hope she can be widely recognized in the future not only in Mandarin Pop, but also as a world musician/artist (she really has that potential), and she is on that way!
Wow,I definitely expected something different when it comes to chinese music, especially not these Kpop elements, but I‘m positively suprised. And if you want to react to German music again you definitely have to react to AYLIVA-In deinen Armen/Aber sie. She is currently one of the best female German artists and very hyped. The music video is also very epic and emotional. And btw: I really love your videos and I‘m looking forward to the new Eurovision season and your reactions 🫶🏻
