    When we bought our house in 1980, the lot was an acre of sandspurs. It took 20 years to get rid of them. NOW I find out they're edible! :D

    Never would have thought this was edible. I now have use for my 2 acres of "lawn" Still think tight fencing and 50-60 half starved sheep is a better answer. Maybe a dash of napalm. Fun video thanks for the info, I may try it in the morning if the air strike can't be called in. John.

    A light, thin and inexpensive pair of needle nose plyers are absolutely excellent to put in the back pack in sandspur country.

    One of the aspects of living past childhood is discovering that we do things as adults we were absolutely were sure when we were kids we would never do... and the first time you admonish someone and you hear one of your parents talking you wonder what else from the past lurks inside your head.

    It grows on many grains, including wheat. Almost any grass can have it, though a few are immune, such as pendulous sedge...

    It the "Rocket Beach" part still open? I remember being called out there periodically for the AF when old rocket parts from the 1950's would wash up. On a sadder note, I also remember securing that beach when Challenger pieces washed up. I'll never forget that day.

    I think "torture" would be dragging someone nude through a field of sand spurs. By the way Port Canaveral has changed quite a lot. I used to fish on the north side of the port on the ocean. Now it is all restricted.

    Once I have the spines removed I just eat them husk and all. The flavor is better dehusked but it's a lot of work, yet it can be done.

    Are you telling me that I can eat some 'grass'? Who would have 'thunk it'? LOL I wonder if there are other grass seeds that we could eat as well? I have seen overgrown fields with long thin stalks just full of grass seeds. Are these also edible Deane, or just this 'grass'?
    By the way. I just love your videos. You are a fantastic teacher *and that is one who makes 'learning' more than just a desire, but a way of life. God bless you for sharing your gifts with us.

    Look forward to viewing your past vids, as I am a new sub. Sheesh, I remember as a child we use to have "wars" w/ those sandspurs, we'd pull 'em up, chase each other down and throw them at one another. Whe we tortured ourselves, I've no idea =) Feel kinda bad now knowing we were wasting a food source =(

    @FacetsOfTruth What do you think wheat is? And rice? Oats... Barley... et cetera?

  • @otakop67
    @otakop67 15 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    First, sorry for the back-to-back comments, I accidentally posted before I was done.
    Secondly, I remember those spiny little bast--ds very well. While on liberty from Patrick AFB, I met up with my then GF and now wife at Port Canaveral Park for a cookout with her family. I remember getting dared to walk across the lawn barefoot. If only I knew then what I know now. That pain was second only to falling onto a Prickly Pear cactus (BTW, duct tape gets those broke-off spines out nicely). 5 *'s!!!!!
