After all the violence and doubletalk, there's just a song in the trouble and the strife. What a line. And, if you notice, the reel changes from bloopers to highlights....cause that is the way life is. You lose, you learn, you improve, then you can win. It's the walk of life. It is the way.
Love Dire Straits. They are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have had so many hits including "Sultans Of Swing", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "Money For Nothing", "Walk Of Life", "Telegraph Road", "So Far Away", "Brothers In Arms" etc. They don't have a bad song.
Dire Straits were one of the bands that made me wanna play guitar and this was one of the first songs I ever learned. "Money for Nothin'" and "Sultans of Swing" led me to this song. Ahhhh the memories lol
Love this song! I remember growing up hearing it... it's one of those nostalgic songs man..and in the video.. with all the bloopers it's a meaning there.. you fall.. but you get back up and keep fighting. The walk of life!!
The guy playing guitar while barefoot who you pointed out is Jack Sonni. He was not the band's original rhythm guitarist, though. That was David Knopfler, lead guitarist Mark Knopfler's younger brother. David was followed by Hal Lindes (who played guitar during their incredible Alchemy performance) before Jack took over for a few years, up until the band's first breakup.
No reason not to love it, they were the most popular and best selling band in the world when this was performed then they broke up a few months later until reuniting for an album and tour in 1991. Mark Knopfler has been one of the most prolific artists of the last 4 decades and counting with numerous collaborations over that span and superb solo work with his band since 1996.
Man this reminds me of my childhood. My parents put in an in ground pool in our back yard when I was 5 or 6 and we would have parties and cookouts and our huge 80s stero system in the house would be blaring this outside with the huge speakers set by the windows! Aunts, Uncles, cousin's, and friends would be having a blast by the pool and this was every wknd in the summer! This song was played alot, along with Springsteen and Genesis. Lol. I see now how cool my parents were
This was one of my all-time favorite videos. It shows all of the sports world and they're screw UPS in the beginning of the song, but at the end it shows incredible successes!
You're very good at interpreting the message from a song and giving us the condensed version. You can accomplish that when you are tuned in and really listening. Bravo.
It's so cool, that you have a really different frame of reference to the music you grew up with. Now, here you are, loving classic rock as much as you obviously do.
I remember the first time hearing Dire Straights was the "Sultans Of Swing" and that is what put them on the map of getting noticed. Good party (Was doing that quite a bit back when) song and then "Walk Of Life" was an even bigger range of fun in the 80's! Coinciding with the emergence of MTV's vast audience, this song was soon played A LOT at sporting events and a good reason why you get these amazing blooper clips that fit perfectly in the song. It wasn't Larry Bird pushing Magic Johnson in that one clip, it may have been Jack Sikma with the Seattle Supersonics, even though at this time there was the big rivalry with the Boston Celtics /LA Lakers. With Johnson for the Lakers and Larry Bird with the Celtics, those were some really great finals games to watch; Good times. This song reflects the fun of those times and Dire Straights also caught that era of MTV with their "Money For Nothing". Also, since your son listens to Home Free quite a bit, he may have heard Home Free's Cover of "Brothers In Arms"; An original work Of Dire Straights in '85. I'm really liking your channel , Really excellent reactions. Plus, I enjoy your introspective comments at the end of the videos.
I was 25, (36 yrs ago).....heard it playing on MTV,.....my 5 year old daughter grabbed my hand, and we danced all over the livingroom. Loved it, and still do. Haven't heard this in a minute. Thank you Van!! ❤❤👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The album Making Movies is, in my opinion, the best Dire Straits album. I enjoy every song, except for one. I am sure there is a play list for the album. TRIVIA: Mark Knopler wrote the soundtrack to The Princess Bride.
In 1985 when this song and video came out I was 16 and we didn't have cable TV. We lived out in the country and were poor farmers. I have never seen this video so this is great to be watching it with you!
Great song! They dominated MTV back in the day with Money for Nothin’. Thanks for your great reactions. (Still waiting for Billy Squier, Lonely is the Night…no pressure 😇 please and thank you)
I have been enjoying your videos for a couple of years. I truly love you vibe. Your sense of life. Values. I subscribed. Yes, this was a joyful song and truth. Peace and love.
Dire Straits stayed at our Hotel-Motel back in the early 90s. They gave us free concert tickets and signed shirts. Were awesome blokes. They stayed up late having drinks with the family.
I know you have millions of views and comments....I check in daily because it's like you connect with things the way I do...Thank you...sincerely I laugh my ass off with you on your channel
Wow, they are great live! Really enjoyed this! I don't know what I was doing when I first heard this song but I bet I couldn't stop moving to the beat. Another really good live band was Linkin Park. Check out their live version of "Breaking the Habit" at Red Square in Russia. Another great video Van. Two thumbs way way up 👍👍
The dude you were wondering about in his bare feet and the bandana is a guy named Jack Sonni, great guitar player and a hell of a showman!!!! If you like this check out a song called Industrial Disease by these guys, great song!!!
I don't remember the first time I heard this, but I remember playing it over and over in my room, super loud (my parents didn't like that) and jumping and spinning around. (I'm sure they didn't like that either lol) Happy song. :)
LOL man that was so funny I know this song but I've never seen the video and I also love the way that you described how life should be because I agree with you 100% that was dope
This song is actually about a busker he knew in a subway in uk "Down in the tunnels trying to make it play" They just put usa teams in the mtv video to appeal to usa audience the original video in uk is a busker in a subway
That dude doing the pushing in that Supersonics Jersey was Jack Sikma. One of the better white dudes in the NBA in the 80s next to Larry. He was a 7 time all star and for a five year span averaged closed to 18 pts a game while pulling down 11 boards a game. he was a beast of a rebounder and could score in bunches...the guy ended up with a career 9.8 rebounding average which is how close he came to averaging a double double for his career. The guy was tough, he played in 80 games or more in 10 of his 13 seasons on his way to a Hall of Fame career...He played out in Seattle in the 80s so he didnt get the exposure playing in a bigger market would get you
His name is Mark Knopfler and he's been in Dire Straits I like this song and I like Sultans of Swing and money for nothing I grew up mostly on Dire Straits pretty good band.
He’s Mark knoffler. My dads brother, my uncle Terry helped move him, stood on his flower bed, he done his nut at the time but he tipped all of them really well. Sultans of swing is my favourite. Check it out if you haven’t already
if you like this song you'd love the Boston band called The Cars because this song is done in their style. Check out the Cars classic "Just What I Needed".

I remember this video. Yes I'm that old. It shows that life is full of ups and downs. All u can do is take things day by day and live your best life.
This was one of my all-time favorite videos. It shows all of the sports world and they're screw UPS in the beginning of the song, but at the end it shows incredible successes!
I love how this video always makes people smile
You've lived it, learned it and taught it. Well done and positively well said. Continue your good work.

Great song, performance, and video!!!
LeBarf James couldn't carry Larry Bird's lunch pail. C'mon now, lets keep it real
Jack Sikma from the Sonics, was shoving Magic out of bounds.
Loved it!😄
That wasn't Bird that pushed Magic. That was Jack Sikma of the Supersonics.
