      jesse lawson That's what I was thinking. Even if if represents something "evil", the idea of destroying statues, destroying a part of history is...creepy, imo.
      I think it's better to move the statues, since the times have changed, and use them as an important lesson on history- preferably in a museum. But not breaking them.

    • @homestarflyerify
      @homestarflyerify 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's worth noting, I think that putting the statue in a museum was the plan all along.

      @@poyoho7947 the problem is that removing a statue from where it is doesn't erase history of that era. Neither does tearing it down. Since these statues were made after the civil war, it wouldn't 'erase history'. Saying that tearing it down would 'erase history' is like me saying we should put up a statue of Adolf Hitler in germany because if we don't, we're 'erasing history'. However, I'd say I'm on board with moving the statue to a museum.

    I strongly disagree with the notion that Trump did not originally do enough to disassociate himself with the racism from the fringe alt-right. He said time and time again that he disavows David Duke, the kkk, and went further to state multiple times that he condemns all racial bigotry. His views of this became public mostly out of the media demanding a response from Trump concerning Duke's endorsement.

    why is Everyone Ignoring the fact that the Left Came to that protest to INCITE violence? yes the protest may not have been a popular one, yes some of those attending the Legally approved protest were racists, but the Left agitators showed up to fight, and they made it VERY clear they were going to do so to those who were legally attending that protest, so of course the original protestors came expecting a fight. But the simple fact remains that if the Left agitators hadnt showed up to fight with the protest holders, the chances would have been VERY good that no deaths would have occurred. that blood may have been @ the hands of both, but if you look at who started the ball rolling, it was the left. The original protestors HAVE THE RIGHT to protest the statues removal, but since it isnt a popular opinion, everyone is willing to act like the right is the reason the violence occurred, but it was the left. Also, why is it SO hard for people to grasp the president waiting for the Facts is a good idea? only a emotional response can be given without fact, I stand behind the presidents statements, he did the right thing, and he took the insanity out of his statements, and made it about Facts, and not feelings.

      MAGA that's like saying because someone attacked you, you have the right to kill civilians because you're hoping it'll kill him too. They weren't just protesting the statue, they were chanting alt right bigotry, now if you would get your head out of your arse long enough to see that then maybe the right wing can flourish again like it should. Antifa is a bad group, those people who were fighting in the group were all bad, but don't you fucking dare think that the rally of changing anti semi's was anything but immoral. The message they pedal isn't individual freedom, it's the murder of another race.

    Judaism has been at war with christianity since its conception. "I am devoting my lecture in this seminar to a discussion of the possibility that we are now entering a Jewish century, a time when the spirit of the community, the non-ideological blend of the emotional and rational and the resistance to categories and forms will emerge through the forces of anti-nationalism to provide us with a new kind of society. I call this process the Judaization of Christianity because Christianity will be the vehicle through which this society becomes Jewish." Rabbi Martin Siegel New York Magazine, January 18, 1972

    Ben, who taught you morality?
    "If you didn't do anything wrong, you are not guilty...your moral status is neutral."
    Correct.
    "You do have a duty to come out and condemn racism when you see it, as a moral human being."
    Incorrect.
    How can a decent thinker even attempt to hold both of these positions simultaneously?
    Also Ben, who taught you logic?
    You can't argue against injecting politics in sports while in the next breath espousing the virtues of playing the national anthem in sports. Just because it's already there does not mean the national anthem is apolitical. Clearly it is political by its nature, given the reactions to it on both sides of the issue.
    One could, by the same merits, argue that taking a stand against killing unarmed black people is an apolitical issue, but in reality it is clearly a political one- just not one that has been traditionally injected into sports by default.

    • @herebetruth5037
      @herebetruth5037 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's literally what I said- that he is incorrect to assert that people do have that duty. Ben claims we do. He is wrong. You are right, I aim right.

    • @herebetruth5037
      @herebetruth5037 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody has a moral duty to speak out against racism, that's ridiculous to assert. Positive action being required for one to be moral is always problematic, and Ben gave just an example of that.

    • @herebetruth5037
      @herebetruth5037 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In regards to the flag, I didn't say anything about it being challenged by one political side, I specifically mentioned "the reactions to it on both sides of the issue." The song is a propagandizing song about war, that is political.
      I also don't know what you mean by the 'case at hand would still be to keep the national anthem in sports," because that seems to be a potential resolution of the issue, but it's not a solution to keep it from being political, as it already is by its nature.

    • @tonystark8757
      @tonystark8757 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HereBeTruth Here, let's see how easy it is to hold both positions. First the statements: If you do nothing wrong, you aren't guilty; You have a duty to condemn evil, which racism is, when you see it. All you have to do for these to be compatible is to label the act of not speaking up and condemning evil as doing something wrong. There, now not condemning evil is doing something wrong, condemning evil is doing something right, and being too far removed to speak up or not having the opportunity to do either means you are acting neutrally. See the logic?

    • @herebetruth5037
      @herebetruth5037 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would also have to label 'not doing something' as 'doing something' wrong. I see the attempt at logic and I see its flaw.

    It also doesn't help when the police is told to stand down and not engage and separate the groups which are known to get on about as well as cats and dogs. The local governments in all of these flashpoints are to be blamed primarily because we've seen time and time again that police are told to not interfere. If people _KNOW_ that police is not going to do its job then vigilantism will rise and these brawls will become the norm, rather than exception.

    "A nation that forgets its past has no future" - Winston Churchill
    We are losing everything fundamental in our American society: our morality, our patriotism, our liberty and freedom. There are many reasons to this but one of the major ones would be that we have forgotten who we are.

    I live in Durham, the police arrested the young lady that roped the statue in Durham. They were also recording the situation with film, so they could later try to peacefully identify and cite members of the group. I think it was the best call, public property was at stake but it was better than engaging with a group that large (hundreds+ verse tens or so police).

    I really hope that you're right that the alt-right is not as influential as you say

    I wondered if Ben finds a way to bring antisemitism up again, I wasn't disappointed. :) But what got my attention is the notion regarding North Korea. NK, the country which wasn't involved in any war since 1994, is somehow "continues to be a global threat" and at the same time US which in last ten years only was invading sovereign countries left and right, replacing governments, creating and sponsoring terrorists, killing hundreds of thousands of people in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lybia, Pakistan, etc. is not. L - logic.

    When Trump initially condemned all bigotry and hated, then WAS pressured into refining it to only one side or group, is that moral?

    @2:13 that red van hit more ppl than the grey car we saw on the news. So where's the driver of the red van? Why weren't they arrested, or even mentioned in reports?

    When you are wrong the first statement was totally sufficient what was insufficient is that no one calls out who started the violence, I am not on a neo-Nazi side at all, but I highly doubt if a single bit of violence was started by anyone on the right

    So, did the people on the Left ever think of just erecting a statue, too? And let the people of the future reflect on them all and decide what they want?

    I don't care what the historical location or statue is, how dare you destroy it!
    That is the single most disgusting thing that any human could do, destroy history.
    I said for a long time I'd never fight ISIS, until they systematically started destroying history.
    These people are disgusting. I'm not an American, yet the pure disgust and anger I feel is disconcerting.
    Those people make me sick.
    This is not condoning ANYTHING the horrible people on the other side do.
    However this is beyond reproachable.

    I am left leaning but I love to hear both sides before making my decision on topics and I have to say, your channel is excellent. Although I disagree with some of your viewpoints, you do not seem to buy into the crippling notion of identity politics that is killing meaningful American dialogue between parties. I find that most people aren't even arguing the issues anymore, the right are just pointing the finger at ANTIFA or BLM, and the left are just claiming outrageous numbers of conservatives are nazis or white supremacists. Both sides missing the point in all their finger pointing, which is that all men are equal and that hate must be stopped, not with violence but knowledge.
