Honestly, its amazing how this series holds on. Not only you guys manage to keep everything going at high quality and do not give up despite massive breaks, but also audience despite lack of content for long periods still keeps on hype and enthusiasm
Great episode, Beardy. Looking at the positions of the planets in 1964, I think you might be able to do a sort of mini-Voyager mission, flying by Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto. Could be a potential test payload for the first N1.
I mean, given the Ke-50 is based on the MiG-21, it can probably be recovered just by sending some fuel trucks out to it when it lands… on the other hand, maybe not given how high its takeoff speed is.
It's been 7 months since the last video. This is awesome. Edit: how long is this video going to be? N9's episode premieres 45 minutes after yours (I assume because the soviets are better) and I would like to catch it
Absolutely blown away by the song part, the best one yet! I watched the premiere 2 years ago but I forgot how good this was! You are so underrated thank you for making this it’s truly beautiful ❤
Ending on a cliffhanger and going 7 months to release the next episode when you said 2-3 weeks in the episode before is cruel lmao I'm so glad I'm watching this after the fact, I understand tho, been there myself
You know I just thought of something. You know when one of your manned capsules was destroyed on reentry because N9 changed the reentry settings and forgot to tell you, I forgot which episode it was. Because it was technically N19's fault, you could have integrated that into the alternate history of the story. At the same time the Soviet Union was doing manned space missions with the Vostok program, the United States was doing nuclear weapons tests in space. The tests caused a large amount of radiation to become trapped in low earth orbit and the upper atmosphere, and disabled three satellites and making crewed launch unsafe for a month or so afterwards. This delayed the launch of the joint spaceflight of Vostok 3 and 4. This result was unexpected, so in a hypothetical alternate history, they could have thought it safe to do the test while the Soviet Union had people in orbit, exposing them to the radiation, disabling their spacecraft, possibly killing them, which would have caused an international incident. You could have integrated this into your story and had the destruction of the spacecraft be somehow related to an unannounced nuclear test, like if some system needed for reentry became disabled, like the spacecraft dipped too low in the atmosphere because the thrusters malfunctioned during de-orbiting or the navigation system was all out of whack.
Interesting idea but wasn't N9's fault at all, it was just an update to Deadly Re-entry which made the Vostok capsule more realistic when we changed to version 1.10. I didn't think to simulate the mission and check which entry profiles were safe and unfortunately Vladimir paid the price, it was completely my fault.
Really happy to see the return of this fabulous series. It must take hours of work to make these videos, the quality is great. Hope that you got the grades you wanted this year, too. Wishing you well for the next year of study.
@@TheBeardyPenguin I know Kerbin Side Remastered has runway numbers that automatically change for heading, I think it might still work in 1.12 but I'm not entirely certain
Watched both premiers, neither were long enough lol. Glad they are back again. N9's video was making my heart race on the orbit of the moon. I watched your moon orbit live stream so it wasn't as suspenseful
its funny to see the different philosophies of space agencies over time and how much its changed. the russians were always fans of rp-1 and hypergolic fuels with very little work relativley speaking on hydrogen and solid rocket boosters where as with nasa they love srbs and hydrogen and only used rp-1 for the first stage of the saturn 5 and than hypergolic fuel in the eagle lander. and now almost everyone is looking at metholox. i cant imagine what the space programs of 50 years from now will look like with how much stuff has changed in the last 50 years.
Imagine if every part in KSP had a different chance of permanent or temporary malfunction or even exploding at any moment of time with different probabilities depending on different factors like air pressure, thrust, fuel levels or even pilots stupidity or budget etc.
Hey Beardy. Just commenting to say I just got accepted into Southampton Uni for the same course you did partly because of your videos. I'm looking foreward to it
If we're getting a UK/European space program in the future, are there any plans to add more people to represent the CNSA/CMSA,JAXA and ISRO once the 1970s roll around?
Btw I would have thought that the french space agency would have been a better start for the pre-ESA european space history since France was the first european country (besides of USSR) to put its own satellite in orbit with its own rocket
No, we're not planning to add any more space agencies. Carnasa is starting as the UK because he's British and there are lots of British engines in our install.

Another thing I’ve been wondering about, is this N1 going to be the classic “monolithic stages with 30 NK-15 engines”, or are you going to actually use boosters like the Soviets might have if they’d bothered to spend the money?
@@TheBeardyPenguin in that case, given the booster equipped version might be more cost effective, perhaps that could be the N1’s successor prior to the introduction of Energia and its engines? Something akin to Tyler Raiz’s old Niko series rockets, using a variable number of four engine boosters around a 9 engine core, with upper stages using kerolox engines (and perhaps an optional 4th stage using RD-57s, if you want to introduce hydrolox upper stages).
