That is some of the largest chard I have ever seen! I agree that fordhook is the best variety, it grows and produces throughout most winters and summers in NC providing greens year round.

you indicated that you don:t have to plant the whole package of seeds in the season. how long can you keep the seeds before plant? two or more seasons? if so how do you store the seeds?

Love your focus on all natural, plant-based eating and growing Fred! I'm 100% on board with that and as my hubby and I are heading into our 60's, we are both healthy with lots of energy. We grow our own greens too but because we live on a mountainside I made "Edible Art Towers" which are basically 30 gallon barrels made into vertical grow towers and also have some in grow bags on racks on my driveway because that's where the sun in our yard is. I've never heard of using alfalfa pellets before so I googled it and came up with this article and recipe from Rodale Institute. I found it very interesting. Are the pellets the only thing you use besides compost?

Thank you for stopping by and sharing and yes, alfalfa pellets are the only fertilizer that I use in my garden, I hope you have a bountiful garden season this year! My wife and I are amazed at the health benefits of following a plant-based lifestyle, it’s like discovering the fountain of youth!

In Zone 6 (Western NY) I plant in containers. Just direct sowed swiss chard. Temps are 80's daytime 60's nighttime. Is it too early?

Just make sure the soil is always moist, you may have to water at least twice a day! you don’t want the germinating plants to dry out and die. 😊
