Firdous Jamal is not only a great actor, but also a philosopher. Really enjoyed his conversation of today. His knowledge of Persian and Persian poetry is very impressive. And no matter what he says, his Chaudhry Anwar was outstanding.
Glad to meet Firdous Jamal sahib after 50 years. It was 1974, when I first saw him as compere of a talk-music show "55 Minute" every Friday (3.05 to 4.00 PM) at Peshawar Radio. I was only 13/14 used to participate in children show "Batoor" in the next studio from where I could see him sitting in the control rook through a glassed partition. I don't know why I used to look at his ever smiling face while waiting for the start of our programme. He may remember "Batoor" presented by M. K. Shahid (Late) with Shamshad Khan as Gul Lala. However, he will not remember me (Akhtar Munir) among many children who used to sit around the microphone on a carpeted floor for 30 minutes presenting the programme live. He truly mentioned intellectuals' gatherings at Silver Star Cafe in the Saddar of Peshawar in the 70s. Inspired by those personalities, I also used to go to such cafes including Cafe Shiraz. Being teenager, we used to go there to listen to old music played (using record changer or popularly known in Pashto as Recordi Baja). After ordering tea, we had to send a written farmaish and used to wait for the turn to listen to the song. Great programme, great presentation and most beautiful guests. Keep it up.
