for anyone trying this on a GoPro Hero3+ dont worry if you dont see the wifi symbol when starting your GoPro back up. i was getting annoyed thinking it didnt work but thought I would try and set it up to my phone anyway and it worked fine,
    thanks for the video.

    Worked perfectly for GoPro3plus.
    1. Download Zip File
    2. Unzip
    3. Open settings.in file with editor
    4. write exact same as shown in video, in line "ssid":"MyGoPro Wifi",
    5. "password":"securepassword1234" (that is the password for connecting to your Wifi with your phone)
    6. Save file
    7. Change file name: Update.10.txt to Update.11.txt
    8. Take the folder Update with these two files inside and copy onto your microSD
    9. insert microSD into GoPro and switch on
    10. Enjoy it ..... Cheerz
Thank you very much for that Video

    for Hero3+
    ---
    Rename update.10 to update.11
Add both files to a folder named "UPDATE" in the GoPro root directory
These steps are missing from the video, if you don't do these it won't work for Hero3+

As many people with 3+ have mentioned, you have to change the name of the update file to update.11.txt and add the entire UPDATE folder to your SD card. Works like a charm. Thanks for posting!

  • @laurensmitas

Okay it took me about 40 minutes to figure it out but here is how I did it.
    1) Download the zip file to your documents section.
    2) Go to your documents and find the UPDATE.zip folder
    3) Right click on the UPDATE.zip folder and click EXTRACT (this will create a folder called UPDATE that is not zipped)
    4) Put your sd card into an sd reader (make sure that it is not locked or you will get a write protection pop up when trying to move the file)
    5) Plug it into your computer/laptop, wait for "removable disk F" to pop up on the left hand side of your file explorer.
    6) Click the UPDATE file (the one that has been extracted, you don't want individual files) and DRAG IT to "removable disk F"
    7) Make sure that the following files are in the removable disk F section- DCIM, MISC, UPDATE.
    8) Eject your sd card reader, put your sd card back into the gopro and it will update once you power it on.

  • @TheCartezian

Works like a charm (for Hero 3 at least); put the files straight to the root of the card and ... voila

  • @yancylent
    @yancylent 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hero 3+ owners, change the file named "update.cmd" to "update.11.txt" Edit the settings.in (don't change the name) file in Notepad, add your SSID, new password, save, eject. Some say to take off the .txt, having the .txt at the end actually worked for me. Also, make sure it's not update.11.txt.txt Make sure you have those files in a folder called UPDATE.

Its easy only in one case! The "settins.ini file"must be already created, can not be empty, then the original password can be easily overwritten in Notepad ,if the normal PC user does not know what the entry should look like than is for him big problem and must use Gopro site, to made this wifi-update file!

  • @theHershko
    @theHershko 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

I followed each step carefully and it doesn't show the "Wireless settings updating". It shows a camera icon, and then says "update failed" or something like that...
    What am I doing wrong?

For anyone else here trying/failing to reset Wifi PW on a Gopro Hero 3+ Black with FW 3.03 OR Gopro Hero 3+ Silver - ignore the Downloads and steps in this video. You HAVE to go through the Gopro Support Website via Serialnumber of your device and email adress - then choose Update Firmware AND Wifi, then it'll work. Simply trying to update Wifi doesn't work.

If you're having the problem where the GoPro isn't updating once you put the SD card back in, I think I have the solution. You have to unzip the UPDATE folder and then copy all of the individual files inside the folder onto the SD card instead of copying the actual folder. I had this problem and it worked immediately after I did it. I hope this helped!

    For those struggling...
Hero 3+: Paste the whole “UPDATE” folder to your GoPro’s root
folder. The files must be in a folder with the name “UPDATE”, otherwise
it won’t work.Hero 3: Paste only the files, not the folder, to the root directory of your GoPro.

It worked for my hero3+ silver:
-changed the update.10 to update.11 as other coments say... nothing happened
-Went back to the update.10... It tried the update and failed, remained blinking red
-Added a longer name on the SID and tried again, it worked! :)
Conclusion, on hero 3+ worked with the update.10 name and look out for proper SID and WIFI password settings, thanks for the video!

    1. use recommended by GoPro SD Card (Sandisk Extreme 64GB). Format it for MS-DOS
    2. Rename update.10 to update.11
    3. Don't edit the file
    4. Change login and password after you'll update WiFi settings and connect to GoPro app.
Many thanks to MobileCameraApps and Frederik Falk

With my GoPro Hero 3+ Silver Edition, i downloaded the files
-> copied the complete UPDATE folder (including the folder itself) to the SD-card, which has to be connected directly to the pc, otherwise we don´t have the permission to write..
-> i didn`t rename any filename and didn`t change the configurations (filecontent)
-> after inserting the SD into the GoPro, and starting the camera, it updated itself
=> then i had the default WLAN settings (that was only possible in this way - resetting the GoPro did not help me there)
-> with these default settings i tried again to rename the SSID and change the password
-> therefore i copied the UPDATE folder again to the SD-card
-> i didn`t change the filenames again, but this time i opened the settings.in files and changed the SSID and the password (i don`t know if that matters, but this time the password didn`t include any number or special character, just characters [a-z])
-> after inserting the SD into the GoPro, and starting the camera, it updated again
==> WLAN settings and password are updated the way I wanted :D
i hope, i this worked for you, if you are still searching for some solution :)

it is possible to change your password if you already have the latest update of the software?

Thanks, worked on GoPro3+ Black Ed. Do not edit the files with Notepad(didn't work for me that way), just copy UPDATE folder to Root of SD card and it will reset the device to default SSID+Password. Use the GoPro App after you're connected to change SSID+Pass.

I had to repeat it a second time with both files in the root of the drive and in an update folder. The first it said update but SSID did not change, thenOk on second try. Still had issues from APp until I just connected to the SSID as if it was an Access Point - which verified I had password working - then disconnected - repeated attempts to connect and that did the trick. Just wouldn't connect using the APP , the new SSId and password - until I connected outside the APP first. Hope that helps someone else - Mine was a HERO3.

Great easy to follow instructions. A simple google search and TH-cam clip to solve what was becoming a frustrating problem, especailly as the official GoPro site doesn't seem to support the Hero 3 updates anymore.
    Good job

If you're having issues and the GoPro isn't updating, I figured it out!
When you put the "settings.in" and "update.10" to the MicroSD, make SURE to do so by dragging the "UPDATE" folder to the MicroSD , instead of just individually dragging them over.

Listen, I have a gopro that I bought new WAY BACK when they first come out. It has sat in a closet until just a few days ago. I could not remember what the wifi password was and tried several attempts at resetting it via Gopro's website with no luck. I just found your video and it worked.....Period. THANK YOU so much for putting this up. Wish Gopro new how to do it!!! Geeesh

I probably tried this 14+ times and nothing changed. Until I was formatted my SD Card on my mac with FAT32 format and followed the instructions below. It worked then!

I don't know why this is not working for me... I have my device registered and am just copying the contents of update folder to the card but it would just start as normal.

    GoPro Hero 3
The best way for solving WiFi pass and update. The trick to put files from zip directly to SD , was only way ( NO folder call UPDATE ).
With pass , easy edit with notepad. Done 👍.
    Thank you for this video

Please install the firmware from " gopro.com/en/us/update/hero3_plus " manually. This also resets the password.
