    After a 4.5 month wait for a Civic Si, they sat me in the car and changed the deal, and after arguing with them to come down, still a 16% increase. I walked away and ended up in a Forte GT. And honestly I love it and got the manual transmission. It's everything the Si is and more... and cheaper. If you are a driver and can't afford some of the more expensive driver cars, this is a great car. A lot of fun and drivable as a daily car. I disagree with the assessment of the Harmon Kardon. For this price point it is an amazing sound system. Far better than the system in the Si. Get this car.

    Just bought that car ( same color and package) last week. It was a 2020 with 3K on the odometer and it ran me 21500 OTD. It IS a fun car with decent backseat room. I like that the imitation leather seats keep you from moving. They are soft almost like cloth seats. Throw in the heat and ventilation in front and they are pretty comfy. It is a shame that most folks will bypass this model. Is it a GTI or SI killer? Probably not using competent drivers in both but it competes very well against them especially when you add the tech features and the price.

    Hey buddies! Get the Forte GT (in Canada, there is no such GT 1 or 2 trim) and thank me later (if in general badge is not a prob for you). GT is the higher trim of Forte Model with more functional and user friendly features (i.e. safety plus, suspension, driving feel) compared with its’ counterpart Hyundae Elantra Sport in Canada! Tho both cars got the same HP, Forte GT is lill bit expensive I reckon. I own a 2020 4 Doors Forte GT with automatic DCT and I believe only Civic SI (comes with manual T ‘more engaging’, I do love SI~3K more than Forte GT; HP 205 but in practical Forte GT can reach 0-60 mph shoulder to shoulder) would able to compete against Forte GT within the economic, fuel efficient sporty or grand touring, sleeper and/or small sedan classes of car (~30K CAD). If you are a guy who want a lill faster car than regular point A to B drive sedans, I suggest you then compare the following cars with Forte GT in-terms of HP, pricing, interest rate (if needed), features, int and ext design, any trade-in equity (especially if there is any negative owe amount, I found Kia’s customer service is top notch in SK) and warranties before you buy one (reliability and resale value of Corolla and Civic are higher than Forte or Hyundae Elantra- I personally believe; I had both Honda and Toyota Cars in past, but Kia and Hyundae are not so far from there, and they are changing the game these days and will continue doing this):
    Forte GT vs Civic SI vs Civic Touring vs Civic Sport
    Forte GT vs Corolla XSE
    Forte GT vs Mazda 3 Sport
    Forte GT vs Hyundae Sport
    Forte GT vs others
    And pick the one that suits you! For me it was 2020 Forte GT!
    BTW best of luck on your future car.

    Just so everyone knows, the Kia Forte GT (even with the GT2 trim) does NOT come with dual zone climate control. It appears that Kia manufactured some vehicles specifically for reviews to use that had this feature equipped, but the production cars do not include it. I have a GT2 trim and do not have dual zone climate control. I’m currently waiting for a call back from Kia’s customer service to email or call me back regarding this but so far, I’m just being told that they’re “looking into the matter”. I get the feeling that Kia pulled some shady business with these cars. The dual zone climate control is the only missing feature that I have found so far.

      Update: Kia's customer service keeps giving me the run around basically stating that their online builder is incorrect and that it states somewhere else that the Dual Zone Climate control is not a feature. I told them that that's all fine and dandy; but the fact remains that there WERE cars build WITH the feature. The website can be inaccurate all it wants but it doesn't change that fact that Kia built press vehicles with different specs than what actually come on the consumer vehicles.

    Excellent review, I'd say. I own a VW GTI and a KIA Sorento, each an excellent vehicle. So if I were in the market for an affordable compact sport sedan I'd be comparing the Forte GT and the GLI. Comparing top trims of each (similarly equipped) the MSRP's differ by about $3000 with the advantage going to the KIA. Whether that difference actually plays out in the real world is always uncertain and never more so than these days but I suspect the Forte would retain a significant advantage.
    I have a lot of experience with VW's EA888 engine in the GTI, the same engine tuned identically in the GLI. All reports are that the 1.6L turbo from Hyundai in the KIA is an excellent power plant but I know the GTI's engine. Greater displacement, excellent durability, and superb performance. Furthermore, the remarkable "tune-ability" of the VW engine gives the option of an even greater advantage to the GLI. A Stage I ECU tune of the EA888 engine adds tremendous HP and torque to the VW for about $800 without sacrificing durability (in the DSG version) and (if you can control your right foot) with relatively little impact on fuel economy. (BTW, that ECU tune does NOT invalidate the VW's warranty but that's another discussion.)
    While I've driven MT vehicles for many years I'd be looking at a dual clutch transmission in each case. I'm happy to hear Chris' view that the dual clutch in the KIA is a significant upgrade over other KIA/Hyundai versions but my experience with my GTI's DSG suggests it's at or near the top of such transmissions. So I'd give the GLI the edge in that department.
    As far as handling is concerned the specs indicate other advantages for the GLI. As a daily driver or even for "sporty" driving on back roads, though, I suspect the Mr. Biermann and his colleagues have tuned the Forte to come close to matching the GLI. It's on a track that differences are more likely to emerge. So if you're not looking for a track toy the GLI's handling advantages may not be important.
    In terms of conveniences the KIA probably wins the prize. The Forte has the same infotainment system as my Sorento and the GLI has the same as my GTI. (Minus embedded navigation in each.) The GTI's system is perfectly adequate but the KIA/Hyundai system is significantly better. Difficult to say which vehicle has higher quality materials, overall design, and a better ambiance in their top trims. My guess is that the GLI wins but it may well be a matter of taste.
    In the end it comes down to whether the price premium of the GLI reflected in the relative MSRP's is worth it. For me, it would be but a $3K (or more) difference in real world prices might well be a deal breaker for many consumers. If that's the case, the Forte is a very appealing option.

      Stephen Hendricks The gti with a stage one tune is amazing on how much power it makes with the dsg. I just worry about it voiding your warranty?

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scraps0233 This is a frequently misunderstood issue. A manufacturer or a dealer cannot invalidate a warranty for an issue unrelated to an engine modification. Thus, a failure of a vehicle's electrical system, infotainment system, fuel delivery, or any other system that is not directly affected by engine tuning will be covered by a vehicle's warranty.
      There are gray areas, of course. Substantial power upgrades, for example, can impact clutch life in a manual transmission vehicle. When I had my MK6 GTI upgraded with a Stage I APR tune, the tuner asked if I had a DSG or MT. When I replied it was a DSG, he said, "Good. We won't have to have a conversation about upgrading your clutch." I went on to put 40K miles on my ECU tuned GTI without a single problem. There are limits to tuning upgrades, of course. If I replaced a GTI's turbocharger with a much higher pressure turbo or a supercharger and took it to the track to see what I could do with it, I wouldn't expect its engine to be covered by the VW warranty. None of that applies to a Stage I tune, however. And frankly, other than its novelty, I don't understand the desire to put 400 HP in a GTI. :)
      Of course, just because a dealer (or a manufacturer) is prohibited from refusing a warranty claim doesn't mean they won't try to do so. And while taking either a dealer or a manufacturer to court to enforce a warranty claim may be successful, few consumers want to go that route. In the case of the GTI (and other VW's and associated brands) there are a couple of alternatives. One strategy is to purchase your car from a "tuner friendly" dealer or to patronize such a dealer for service. My VW dealer offers APR tuning and I've never heard of any customers who were denied a valid warranty claim by that dealer. (I belong to a very active and large local online owner's group and I'd hear about any such event, I'm sure.)
      If that option isn't available APR (the only tuning firm I'm familiar with) offers a "backstop" warranty that mimics every feature of a VW warranty in the form of its Stage I+ product. Issues are warranted for any VW dealer or any other reputable repair shop. The additional cost over the Stage I tune is a few hundred dollars.
      IMO, a Stage I tune of the GTI (or the GLI) is an excellent investment. The performance improvements are VERY significant. And for a DSG transmission, APR offers a separate tune for the transmission that enables customization of shift points among other features. The only downsides I've ever experienced is a slight loss in fuel economy (About 2-3 mpgs) and the reduction in tire life. Adding substantial power to any FWD vehicle means fewer MPG's and more tire wear. But the extent of those penalties depends completely on the discipline applied to a driver's right foot. The EA888 engine in the GTI, the GLI, and the Tiguan is a remarkable power plant and underspec'ed even in stock form. A stage I tune brings those vehicles to nearly the power offered by the Golf R (without, of course, the advantages of AWD.)

    Why do they not make the top spec one with a manual transmission

    • @tim3172
      @tim3172 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because nobody buys manual vehicles.
      The people who do buy them buy them because they're 'cheaper' (despite being slower, and more fuel-thirsty).
      Ergo, a "premium" manual vehicle makes no sense which is why they're almost extinct.

    Love it Chris. Glad to hear that they've smoothed out the DCT transmission. That's a huge improvement. They also seem to have improved the mpg & engine note & even added a bit of performance .. which may, in part, be reflect the new car's reduced weight. However, I really prefer hatchbacks and am very disappointed that we seem not to be getting the new Forte5 hatchback, with its much more practical layout and 26 cu ft trunk .. as much cargo capacity as the new Seltos - with more powerful tune of Kia's 1.6 liter turbo engin and better driving dynamics.
    Apparently, Canada gets the hatch, but not the US .. what the heck?? Hot hatches sell much better than tuned sedans. Come on Kia .. give US the Forte5 hatch. th-cam.com/video/nzrWIOgTKbA/w-d-xo.html
    Kia seems to have nailed everything else .. including price/ value - and my guess is that you can currently get great deals right now w) no one buying cars, but I .. and other poteu US customers want a hot hatch .. listen to your customers.

    • @M4B21S88
      @M4B21S88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      How much you pay per month is based in many factors:
      - Your APR, based on your credit score.
      - Finance length term, 60 mo vs 75 mo, ect
      - Down payment
      - negative equity?
      - Price OTD with your states/ dealers taxes and filling fees..
      My ‘21 GT2 had msrp of $26.3k usd, OTD for $24.5. (Price of car)...I pay $384/ mo.

    • @BradyR95
      @BradyR95 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For starters, stop looking at "per month" as a method for measuring the price of things. Look at the total price. If what this car offers is what you are looking for, it is affordable relative to what you might pay elsewhere. If you don't need the high performance engine, and you get the base trim level, it's pretty close to as cheap as a new sedan is going to get
