Joey has graduated to the master level of not having the segway stolen for "challenge the stats" by removing it from the show altogether. No one could have seen that one coming!
I was honestly waiting for it lol
The word is "segue". A segway is an electric scooter.
Take a shot every time I say the word “like” 😂
uh oh
Man I'm dead
What an awesome episode! Please have Chase on more often, they were great!!
Roaming Throne with a few Nazgul is just crazy.
It is crazy with everything xd
"Running out of room in my Chandra deck" - same
I’m surprised Chase didn’t challenge any stats
Too busy challenging the huge amount of new incredibly cool cards
Last March of the Ents is easily my favorite card of the year. It's just everything you want from a big, splashy green card (uncounterable!), and the flavor is amazing. Total homerun.
21:27 Git not gud, scrub - Dana Roach 2023
Let him cook 🙌🔥
Fantastic episode! Love seeing Chase guest on this episode! Also are we sure they're not sick since they confessed to loving both BLUE and GREEN cards?!
I like how this implied all simic players are sick.
@@that-one-genz7835we are
@@that-one-genz7835take Simic and rearrange it. It spells "I'm Sic(k)". Coincidence? 🤔🧐
Chase's voice is so nice and relaxing to listen too❤
Simp
My Favorite has to be Collector's Vault. I think it is a new staple that goes in nearly every deck providing card draw, ramp, and fixing. It's Currency Converter with less steps. You can look at it as 1, T: Loot. or 2, T: Create a Treasure token both effects are already great on their own.
Collector's Vault 2
Artifact
2, T: Draw a card, then discard a card. Create a Treasure token.
I agree with Dana that cascade and discover are not great mechanics for the overall play experience. But I’ve played against Jodah a few times and might be jilted lol 😂
32:57 I can confirm. We did 3 precon games with those decks and the Guff deck (disgufftin as we put it) won every single time without a fight. I will add that we rotated decks after every game, so it wasn't a player skill issue; it's just that insane.
41:50 or cast it and flashback it with a Mana Geyser, then sneeze to kill your opponents with 9x damage.
57:57 White is my most played color and I dare not run that trap of a card, but thanks for suggesting it, Dana.
I know flavor wise it makes no sense, but I wish Charismatic Conqueror was either red or green and an ape for Uktabi. The act of going “heres a banana, you wanna give me a monkey now?” Wouldve been hilarious
My Urza, chief artificer deck is a happy boi with all these good artifact creatures (and yay nice to see Chase)
Chase has such a smooth voice, you could spread it on toast.
Huh no Matt so we didn't have a Segway into challenge the stats. We all know he's the only one that can do it!
30:30 Dana spitting facts
LET HIM COOK! 🙌🔥
I think Roaming Throne is the actual 2023 mistake card everyone was accusing Elesh Norn of being. Kind of wish it hadn’t been printed.
The flavor possible with the alternate universes sets are what actually brought me back to mtg suprisingly.
Im not even a huge fan of doctor who but i love the idea of playing with time or owning a tardis so just being able to explore that design space on cards has been extremely refreshing in a game about racing to the bottom.
2 minutes in and I‘d like to express how much I like ManaCurve‘s voice. Sounds really pleasant and friendly.
Enjoyed Chase's guest host energy on this one!
No card made my soul happy the way Palani's Hatcher did. Wonderfully powerful, but in a way that is a 1000% flavor win. (Yes, I am biased, my favorite deck is my Atla Palani dinosaur egg deck.)
My favorite card this year goes to Virtue of Courage, such a power house of card advantage in Red, I love it!
Yea this card is insane
So great to see @manacurves commenting on commander content again. I miss you and EK making Bad at Magic.
I love food tokens ❤ I made a Willowdusk deck built around witches and food. It's not the strongest, but it's moved up as one of my favorites this year.
Could you link your list? Never got Willowdusk to stick 😅

@@edwardjrackleyshe's pretty bad tbh. I just changed around 40-50 cards of the precon and made it a Dina, Souls Steeper deck
Huge compliments to the editing! The whole episode is super interesting and entertaining, then the editing takes it to a higher level. The cards are legible, the timing is crisp, the camera shots coming in help me follow what's being said by who etc. 💜💜💜
Love it when a wild chase appears!
Chase is great on these!
"If they had the temerity to not die" has to be one of my favorite things I have ever heard.
Also did I have a stroke and miss the challenge the stats?!
How often do they do shows like this? This is awesome
Good to see the mycosynth gardens mention from dana at the end. That card is so good and just free. There are great targets for it, but its greatest target is academy manufactor for sure. Getting 3 of each token for a trigger is massive.
I love that Chase is as much of a fan of planeswalkers as I am. I have a Zurgo and Ojutai superfriends and an Atraxa, Praetor's Voice superfriends that has a bit of a Phyrexian theme to it.
As a proud owner of a Simic Ooze Tribal deck, yes, go for it. Highly recommended cause it's easy to make and Ooze as weak or powerful as you want depending on the color(s) you go with. You even have the option of the Umori companion mechanic for a more challenging deckbuild.
Virtue of Loyalty has been an all star for me so far, my God Eternal Oketra deck is a go super wide strategy and giving them all basically vigilance and having them grow every turn gets out of hand fast
Night of the Sweets' Revenge definitely goes in Farmer Cotton decks.
Chase is actually hilarious. Have her on more often.
Agreed with Chase. JP3 is underrated. The JP movies arent really known for the plots anyways and it has some of the best dino fights for sure
She really came under prepared for the level of dad joke expertise of this show lol.
No challenge the stats? Chase couldn't steal the segue?
The basic land cycling cards from LOTR
More Chase!!!!
We definitely need more Chase ❤
I require more Chase in my episodes from now on. Please and thank you.
Mana curves is great
Transition Monarch 31:43 all hail 😊
I wish for my existence to be damage upon my enemies
Wow! Really surprised that y'all just praised +2 Ward for over an hour! All really good points too!
The stats went unchallenged this week, guess they win
Archmage of Echoes is my favorite card for this year. I have a naban deck that I adore and I was dreaming of making a creature version of Reflections of Littjara and now here it is!
Can Chase be on more episodes? I love their energy so much
Let's go Great to have Chase on the show along with these great guys that know about Dad jokes and MTG. Thanks guys & Gals
I nice need to make a mono Red deck just from knowing all I've gotta do is exist. Sounds Bonkers!!
Chase - City on Fire is THE BEST! Put in Dragon's Approach - you win! Put in The Balrog, Durin's Bane - you win!
this series is always great you guys, love the insights, but invite ManaCurves more often! tempering the dialog in new ways
Favorite card of the year for me was Sam Gamgee 100%. Building it was a blast and playing it has been fun every time.
I love Aragorn the Uniter. I love getting value of playing so many weird little multicolor cards.
I use nothing but charms and 2 free spells as my interactive package, and with the right effects i can line up explosive turns.
Up to and including hilarious Mizzix Mastery nonsense.
The Millennium Calendar and Doubling Season is what I think I would like to try and do.
Roaming Throne is DISGUSTING! It broke almost almost all my decks. Malik gets two etb triggers AND makes 2 treasures per sacrifice. Saruman mills 4 and steals 2 spells. Nicol bolas makes them discard 2 cards per etb. Kalamax copies twice and gets 2 plus one plus counters per instant. Tovolar draws 2 cards per hit. Throne is hands down the strongest card they've printed for commander this year imo. Don't even get me started on Miirym
Mat stole the Challenge the Stats Segue so much he took it with him out of the podcast.
Pit of offerings is standard issue for me now. I always feel a little bad about discard, but have never, not eve once, not even a tiny fraction of a bit regretted exiling cards from a graveyard. When it happens to me, "good play"
Danas "play low threat commanders" philosiphy is so much more powerful than the guys give credit. Ive got 2 uncommon partner commanders that are very powerful once youve seen what they can do but to the uninitiated they get ingored all game and then BAM im swinging for 60+ at multiple targets
That literally only works if you play strangers every time. I only play with friends, so the shock factor would only work once or twice
Agree, Planeswalker Party!!!!
Funny, “All will be one” was one of the few cards I hated (It is basically a play and win combo piece, which is the worst thing in MTG).
Fairly it’s kinda cool, it goes infinite way too easy tho, including being a one card combo with too many commanders
So, really weird question..
The gnome you get from Thousand Moons Smithy. "Power and toughness equal to artifacts and/or creatures". And/or? Do I choose, and when? Do I choose just creatures when I'm about to untap when there's a Meekstone? Do I choose again when somebody Lightning Bolts my gnome?
I know I'm 4 months late but the reason they use and/or is so creatures that are both an artifact and a creature don't count twice. If you had the smithy, the token (an artifact creature), and a nonartifact creature then the token would be a 3/3
Tl;dr it's counting the total number of permanents you control that meet either type
I put Roaming Throne in my Chulane deck. It's great if you just make it a wizard, but then I got Koma and Aesi out, and went "oh dang, this should actually be a Serpent"...
I put Delighted Halfling in probably all of my green decks :)
Myriad is a triggered ability, so it gets doubled by Roaming Throne. Although sadly it doesn't double its own triggered abilities.
“A skeleton walks into a bar” = undad joke
One person in my pod is using Roaming Throne with Miirym, and then he conplains when the entire table beats him out of the game
@14:12 = Jurassic Park 1 , #2 = Jurassic Park 3, 3rd = Jurassic Park 2, and nothing else exists. Period. Land Before Time 1 ! And i say : yes those lands are magic ! I got the one with the lake and diplodocus or brachiosaurus
Great to see Chase on the podcast. They have such a beautiful voice.
I have spent years trying to make a multi-color rebel deck. It's always lacked consistency and payoff. Flesh duplicate has me excited as a rebel.
Going by each new set on Arena, since I'm a Historic Brawl player, it goes: Annex Sentry; Botanical Brawler; Jolrael, Voice of Zhalfir; Palantir of Orthanc; Likeness Looter; Dire Flail // Dire Blunderbuss
I really like Fiend Hunter creatures, but I never run them because a 2/2 can't attack or block profitably while holding a creature hostage. Annex Sentry lets you really lock down the early game by not just hitting artifacts in addition to creatures, but also by being an absolute UNIT. It reminds me a lot of Opportunistic Dragon in those respects. It even comes with the additional upside of working well in a Mono-White Mite aggro-y control shell I built to fiddle around with in Standard. It holds an Infested Fleshcutter really well, and I can bounce it back to my hand with Indoctrination Attendant if I want to switch targets.
Botanical Brawler, what's not to love? Turn 1 Hopeful Initiate into turn 2 BB is a real clock that your opponent is forced to answer, and it gets really out of hand in my Hanza, Guardian of Arashin deck.
Aftermath is, like you said, slim pickin's, but Jolrael is a whole lot of fun to run as a commander. I love animating my lands, so turning them into a hand-matters flyer that does a Curiosity is such a flavorful and fun ability. Seriously, try it out. I'm not even a Simic player. As a matter of fact, it was my first Simic deck ever.
Palantir of Orthanc is everything I love about Black cards, so it's an honorary Black card. It's just full of really interesting choices as both the pilot and the one staring it down. I have no idea why people enjoy The One Ring more. Is it a power level thing? Palantir of Orthanc is my pick for card of the year.
Likeness Looter would be good enough as a flying Faerie looter. I have no idea why they thought it needed to Lazav as well, but I'm by no means complaining. The card is sweet in self-mill, where it can very quickly turn into a checkmate copying Voices of the Lost from your yard.
The only issue I have with Illustrious Wanderglyph is that I don’t want to see WotC continue the pattern where White slowly just becomes alternate Green rather than having its own distinct identity.
Illustrious Wanderglyph is the White Tendershoot Dryads, Moonshaker Cavalry is the White Craterhoof Behemoth etc.
Making fun of the cycling on Ozolith shows how much of a commander player you are ^^
Because its definitely useful if you run 4 of them and draw the second and third one in a 60 card format.
I was going to write the same thing. Being able to cycle away a second copy of a legendary artifact is excellent.
Even for EDH I'm not sure the cycling's useless. I don't think it's much of a stretch to imagine some desperation plays where you're behind and need anything else, or you're just frantically digging for that removal or counter.
:D Chase is actually joining in, and not just doing the editing (as if the editing isn't a big job in the first place?)...?!?! take my Like.
Fun fact, the reason why the military comes out of nowhere and saves the day at the end of jurassic park 3 is because the US military specifically asked for it.
I don't think Joey knows what 'reverse engineer' means.
Just wait until you hit the March of the Machines jackpot and flip Breach the Multiverse off your Etali, Primal Conqueror... I've done that 2 or 3 times and it is a complete rush.
Has the same number as the last episode in the thumbnail
Thank you for fixing, it was driving me nuts.
So as a shameless dad joke enjoyer and soon to be father I can't help but want to polish up that joke in the intro lol. "I was hanging out with some friends at a bar the other day and a skeleton walked in holding a mop over his shoulder. He said he had a rough day and asked the bartender for a beer but he hit me on the head with the wooden handle of the mop as he walked by. I said "Ow! who the heck brings a mop to a bar!?" The skeleton replied "Sorry, I'm a kind of a sloppy drunk" If you want to go further you can then add a description of the skeleton then spilling his beer on your shoes as he then takes a drink.....Anyways looking forward to watching the rest of the video! Lol
congats, you ruined the joke.
Matt is gone and you instantly forget to challenge the stats in an episode, fun episode though:)
It's just not the same if I weren't there to give permission!
Joey! You started at Ixalan and not SCREAMING BREACH THE MULTIVERSE?!
Hell yeah a fellow Zopandrel appreciator. It was my gateway mono green commander too
Chase, please share the deck list for guff super friends!
I love seeing a woman's perspective in MTG in general so I hope you always bring Chase back in future episodes, plus she's B-E-A-utiful.
very weird comment
Yes JPIII gets to much hate thank you
No Matt so no Challenge the Stats 😶 I guess his transition stealing is needed!
Great episode, but what happened to "Challenge the Stats"?
I really like ward [insert number] being throw in cards tbh. In early days we had shroud for protecting stuff, but it was a hindrance when you couldn't target your own cards too. Then wotc created hexproof, which was pretty much broken from the start, and lead to non interactivity, which is also boring. Ward is the perfect mix, and makes people consider cheaper, less flexible removal too.
I see ward on a card and I just imagine the designers doing a Christopher Walkin impression, “It’s still missing something… It needs more cowbell [power creep]”.
YO! The One Ring?! :D Sheoldred the Apocalypse FTW
invasion of tarkir does excellent in my enter the infinite dragon deck ;)
Magic con chicago??
We'll see you there
Yo! Hi Chase!!!
Omg Chase!! I love them!
I have really liked all of the sets this year (except the flavor of LotR and Dr. Who and how they priced commander masters…and aftermath.)
Isn't Throne of Eldrane bad?
#bring chase back
Roaming throne is actually double ward 2, since its triggered ability
It says another creature, otherwise it would.
true, my bad
It would be hard to play 5 color, its just that the social code prevents you from punishing ridiculous mana bases. That's not wotc's fault
