    Does the hub mod work on other vw models?I’ve got a scirocco and was thinking of trying this?

  • @davem4131

    Did this help with the ride quality?

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching, it did, doing the hub mod ment I could drop the strut through the hub and the re adjust the coils to effectively raise the van but back to a sensible height.. the spring was compressed so ride was a little firmer.. less bouncy.. the gaz short shocks on the rear really help too 👍🏻

    My T5.1 is lowered 110mm on the rear and 100mm on the front on stance+ running 255/35/20. It's bouncy, and it rubs a little on full lock.
    ”if it ain't rubbing, you ain't dubbin”

      Like it a lot! Have to say mine isn’t rubbing that much.. it is bouncy on the rear but I’ve just managed to sort that out... vid is on its way 👌🏻😎

    Hi there, are these Stance Plus and do you think they will be ok to lower my T5 50mm with 20 inch alloys and 275/40/20 Tyres without it rubbing or being too crashy?

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are, they will be fine at that height, I’ve currently got them in my silver van around that height no issues at all 👌🏻

    do you not need shortened drop link for that? do you think you can hub mod a standard shocks with lowering springs work?

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could hub mod on standard shocks.. don’t need shorted drop links, that’s only when your on air, would be a good idea to invest in some adjustable ones and possibly some shorted driveshafts.

  • @ryanpage5296
    @ryanpage5296 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi ya Tim, Is it possible to do this with out removing the shocks with a dremel?? Just raise them slightly, And remove the bracket that holds the brake line? Reason for asking was I had a mission to get my shocks back in the hub last time

    Did the ride improve? I was just looking at doing this but was a little confused on exact process - I am concern you now have nothing to stop it going further down, right?

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True nothing to stop it going further down but if you have ever tried to remove one.... exact proses is quite straight forward. Remove drop link, undo strut, use 57mm hole saw drill out metal stopper at the bottom of the strut housing the do it up as tight as you can, there are stories of them coming loose but just keep an eye on them they shouldn’t come loose 🤙🏻👌🏻

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are clamps you can get made to go on to the strut if your worried get yourself some of those, I’m going to invest in some when I drop it a little more 👌🏻

    Newbie to van life guys 😁
    Have a t6 t30 dsg kombi day van on 275/40/20
    Want to lower 50/60mm but wanting a smooth comfy ride not bothered about cornering at 60mph lol
    So what can you recommend without spending a fortune 😃

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stance plus are a great kit for low spends.. will lower you van well to 50/60 and be comfy at that height too. Plus you have the option to go higher or lower on the coilovers 👌🏻

    did you manage to remove that lower part of the strut without undoing the cv boot and hub bolt?

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, left it all intact, just took the strut out 👌🏻 it’s do able once you remove the drop link bolt as the struts are shorter than the standard ones 🤙🏻

      @tomtdubz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes less bouncy, I’ve only driven it to work a couple of times since doing it... not a long journey but enough to notice is a bit better, few mor adjustments and it will be spot on 👌🏻

    What you've done is a great job!
    I'm looking at budget coilovers also. I've noticed stance do a ultra low kit.
    I'm not after ultra low but if I used the ultra low kit and dropped it low as low as the standard stance + (plus a tiny bit maybes) would i get still get a good ride. In effect what you've done here? i.e not much bounce like you say as the springs wont be stretched out like the standard stance +
    If you get me lol

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that might work, check out the figures first as I’m not sure of the drop you get on the ultras. They will be better coilovers so the ride should be a lot better anyway 👌🏻

    • @p8nty
      @p8nty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that's what I was hoping for ultras drop to
      Front Lowering: 30-110mm
      Rear Lowering: 30-95mm
      Stance +
      Lowers front by: 30-95mm
      Lowers rear by: 30-80mm

    Great vid, have you still got the adjusters in the rear

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, in the front yep with now about 40mm or more adjustment available in the rear I have taken the adjuster nut out just leaving the main treaded bit in, so if I remove that can drop the rears about 20mm taking the rubbers out too...

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      T Dubz Hello there chap I’m in the process of getting all the parts to lower my wife’s T5 I’ve got most parts suspension wise , but I’m just working out tyre size before i commit to anything , now quote me if I’m wrong but when you first put those wheels on but weren’t you running 225/40-19 Front and 235/40-19 Rear , only I could have sworn in this video you said you were running 225/45-19 Front and 235/45-19 Rear correct me if I’m wrong.

      Why did you change up in profile on the tyres from 40 to 45?

    • @tomtdubz
      @tomtdubz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your not wrong fella, it’s a comfort thing at the mo, I will eventually fit 20”s on the van.. we were supposed to be going away... hence the tyres, France... and the roads back country can be a little bumpy...
