I just quit my factory job too. They don't train you well. And when you start learning yourself, the coworkers hate you for it. I felt that they just want to disqualify you. They want you to struggle. The job itself wasn't hard but people were crazy and toxic. No respect. No inclusion. I was still in training. 4 weeks and I just walked out on them. No job is worth your mental health. You have to feel appreciated at your job.

Well if your employer and fellow employees gaslite you and treat you like a candidate for humanity, making you constantly doubt your self they can feel better about their selves, not to mention you're easier to control that way. It's a very insecure form of leadership and buisness structure in my opinion.

Been working factory jobs about 20 years, people usualy dont like it when you try to change things... in one company everybody turned against me.. usualy coworkers turn against you if they see your more capable.. you know i dont want to go to work and compete against idiots 24/7.. people think its natural, well its not.

I’m Currently working at a factory and only been there six months and tired of being treated like a animal who doesn’t get the respect he needs or wants. I’m thinking of going back to my old job at least there I know people and they give me respect that I need. Thanks for sharing your story. Seneca "You act like mortals in all that you fear and like immortals in all that you desire". People are given plenty of time in life, its just that the majority of them waste it. A philosophy of not quitting to me sounds like you're afraid to stand up for what is right for you. There is no shame in quitting a job that treats you like a cow with a cattle tag. If they're doing that to you the obviously you mean nothing to them so why should you return them the same respect???

Quitting my factory job back in 2012 was probably the best decision of my life, starting there was probably the worst.
I worked the night shift 9pm to 7am with only 2 20 minute breaks Monday to Friday for 5 years at a cake factory.
My only job was to place 30,000 plastic pots onto a production line each shift by hand, nobody spoke, there where no windows and the radio played the same 25 songs every night.
I had been feeling depressed for about 2 years then the last 3 or 4 months on the job it got really bad, it felt like I was a prisoner stuck on a loop doing the same boring monotonous tasks at the same time in the same place every day.
I got ready for work on a Monday just sitting there looking at the clock ticking when I thought fuck it I can't do this shit any more and I never went back to that place.
The boss called me and I explained how I felt he gave me 2 weeks off to think about what I want to do but I had already made my mind up.
Today im working part time processing orders for an online store, it's a nice desk job with great people and the freedom to take breaks whenever I want, my side gig im a photographer for a advertising agency and life is good.

I used to think the same. Til they finally started paying me decently. Started at 21 an hour . Now year 3 at 28.90 and a raise every year with no cap. I just don’t tell my coworkers my wage now. We all make different pay. Some make more and some make less. There is no point of asking how much they make because they earned that pay in there yearly review. Factory work is good if you work 12 hours. I work 12 hours for only half a year and made 63k last year net only working half the year. I recommend if you are interested in factory work. Find a big one that has a lot of learning potential like refineries. Don’t apply to easy factory jobs. People who have years of factory experience, know what I’m talking about.

I worked 4 years in manufacturing in Mequon Wisconsin. They did a "kyson" study which was about really working us into the ground, after which I started having back spasms due to my new work table. Ask the CEO for an accommodation, he says to my face " it sounds to me like you're trying to set us up for a workman's comp claim". Three stupid write ups about nothing later they fired me for "insubordination" 3 weeks before Christmas. Got a lawyer and appealed my unemployment and I of course won. What I learned was in manufacturing its all about the CEO and the shareholders and the worker doesn't really matter. The good news is these horror stories get passed around then the newer generation says "I don't want that happening to me". Harley Davidson used to be the premier manufacturing job in Milwaukee and I hear their starting assembler pay is 27k a year? Why would you don your steal toe shoes to do back breaking repetitive assembly work in a noisy awful environment for 27k when you can drive a truck with a comfortable seat for Walmart making 80k+ per year? Do yourself a big favor, let the "elites" and their spoiled brat kids do the work...

Share holder supremecy was an idea that started in the 70s and is now fundamental in all businesses in the us unfortunately. Now with all this anti work stuff going on out there and the opportunity presented by covid meaning people could stay home and realize they hated what they were doing hopefully things change. I just did so and feel good, i worked in a warehouse.... and its just pointless, i understand someone has to do it, its matter of time, machines will do that, i mean, even Amazon is getting more and more automatized.. but thats not important here... there is no meaning in doing this. Working whole life here, getting home late, basically have a free time only thru weekend and you are tired so, you dont want to do shit anyway. You save up money, so you can go on a summer holiday for a 14 days max... and thats the every year's reward. Thats not a life, so i quit it, i dont have much of a money saved up, so everything is unsure, but i applied as a caretaker in a home for a handicapped people, its not an easy job, they pay is maybe even lower then in my previous job, but.. there is more free time and its definitely more meaningful job then packaging orders like an NPC, every day same. I would love to travel... but, that requies money, so i am planning to make some and just travel and see where t it gets me, maybe i will return afterwards, dissapointed and broke.. well, it would be most likely broke, but at least with some good experiences.

    • @honestjason7854

You sound very defeated after spending the time you have working this job. It sucks the life out of you thats for sure! Ill be honest I make probably half what I did before yet have more extra money. When i was making that big factory check i wouldn't manage my money very well and it sounds like thats the same for you? I went through a couple years being broke AF wondering what I'm going to eat for the week but that experience taught me to manage my money because I got so sick of it. On a side note i was aware of the feeling of being broke and was appreciative of the time i was being broke because i knew it would create this hunger in me to not go through that again. Keep that in mind as much as you can. I would honestly suggest finding a trade job traveling if you don't have a degree to use. Maybe take a job that pays crazy amount and just quit after 6 months and travel for 3 months on a budget and work the entire time while you travel. A good question to ask your self for work is what skills do you have to use while traveling? I personally have lots of experience in machinery, welding, mechanical, and now landscaping/excavating skills to use plus i learn really quick witch is a skill in its own. I would suggest take some time to recharge though you will definitely need it. Anyway just food for thought. Keep us posted with what all happens in the future and dont be scared to hit me up if you need some advice to get through this.

Thanks for this Jason. I just got out of the military and decided to hop into a job too soon. I’m probably gonna quit next week. The monotony and lack of skill isn’t worth it for me but what makes me feel bad are the people staying there. I don’t really need this job since I have support but the people over there can’t say the same because they are the support ! I’ll probably try to find another job or just wait for 2 months until school starts since I get payed to attend school as a veteran. I feel you
Got a factory job to because my friend convinced me it was easy
I was trying to escape the restaurant industry to find slower paced even steady job
The head of the let me in by a hairs breath to give me a chance, to see how I did
I wanted a 9-5 M-F normal job, paid holidays off and vacation time job
The first day: ok ok not so bad, they put on the end of an assembly ish line and just had me fold boxes boxes at the end of the line because the machine of something was down, talked to a couple coworkers, seemed friendly, easy, ended day went home
Walked off, feeling "oh this is easy"
Next day, they have have none of the crew I worked and talked with on the first day, there was a pallet of about 400 boxes of..stuff..products boxes and the like..sat me at the end of the line once more and none of them spoke a single. word. of. English. They kept pointing at the boxes and pointing to the boxes gesturing for boxes to come down the line. They didn't speak in English, but all spoke in Spanish; back and forth to the manager of little things I couldn't understand.. making really tough to get the hang of anything because of the talking Spanish nonstop and pointing giggling turning to manager and cackling, turning to say more boxes
They kept me doing that and unloading the boxes from the 400 stacks of pallets for 2 hours, then the girl manager comes out and switches with another guy who does speak English
Who then has us spit the packages through a tape machine to the manager to put on a pallet and has me spitting the packages from the end of the packaging machine to the other
He then pulls me aside and asks me to label the tapped pallet boxes, so I'm like ok, take a roll of stickers and quickly put them on the tapped boxes as fast as I can.
The manager shakes his head and swears in Spanish, proceeds to yank the sticker off I just did and say do it again, but with more of a straight line
So I try this a couple more times, trying to make it straight, but he yanks it again and tells to make it straighter, cursing under his breathe
2 hours of this, trying to appease this man on my first and a half, I look around, question if this is any better than restaurant wait until lunch walked out and just quit.
I've never been so cetain from quitting a job in my life, they worked you thrice harder than restaurant for worse pay for in terms of work done and output, they treated you like shit and scoffef at you
Luckily my Unemployment kicked in from the restaurant (because covid 2020 shut down restaurants)
Found a better job doing janitoring, but turned that for data entry for covid
It was the best job I've ever had, wasn't permanent but got an even better job
Factory job was by far the 2nd to worst job I've ever had, if they didn't work you to the bone, theyd break you.. working 10 hour days I decided its be better to work at another job than this.

My suggestion would be to look for a small landscaping or excavating company and be very up front with them about how you want to be with your family. When i quit i switched industries entirely and it was a the best decision i ever made. Do something rather than sitting around thinking about it. That will help with the frustration I promise you. People will have to relocate if they want these jobs. I'd love to see a video of you discussing these issues. Also, I liked your video. You sound genuine and realistic. I hope you do more.

I know the question was meant for OP but here is my two cents: I can't understand why anyone would willingly, if given another decent paying option, work in manufacturing. I always hated how politicians like Trump would dress in blue jeans and flannel and pretend to be one of the working class. Same with Tim Ryan and the other faux-democrats. Wanting to bring back manufacturing and (in the case of Trump) mining is the equivalent of wanting to bring back lobotomies, shock therapy, and DDT baths.
