I’ve had two Westerbeke generators, an 8kw and a 12.5kW but both were diesel. They had a fuel solenoid that was prone to break. You’ll see it on the engine side of the generator. Looks like a piston that moves when you hold down the start button. If the piston doesn’t move, then no fuel is getting to the engine. Don’t know if the gas gens have the same system but worth a look.
A trick with plugged carbs starter fluid or a bit of raw fuel in the carb have a rag handy big enough to block the carb off once you start it with fuel or the starter fluid get the rpm up and block it off quick and do this 2 or 3 times the compression and suction of the engine will usually clear out any small blockage and is a cheap and easy fix for bad fuel you have to remember the older engines are not meant to run on ethanol fuel it will cause big problems over time !!!!
Amanda proves again she is a great First Mate. Glad to see yall are safe after the Burnet run. The weather was not great from the Hill Country all the way over here to East Texas.
Bobby, how would a top of the line technician do down in that area? If I bought a boat, loaded my tools on board... and offered mechanic services at the dock I pull into, could that be a workable living?
Good morning (Sunday here from sunny Washington State). Great video and showing your partnership/tandem with Amanda and the true life on a boat dealing with the hardships of repairs. Thank you for putting this content together. We appreciate and love it.
When I have that issue only running momentarily, I find that there could be condensation in the bowl and if there is a drain on the carburetor to drain the bowl, I do that and I also check the fuel filter to see if there’s any condensation or water in it. You might also check to see if you’re getting fuel from your fuel source and the fuel pump.
Had a westerbeke generator on my 280 Amberjack and 310 Sundancer. You’re right, they are crap. Had my share of problems. My 2006 340 Meridian had a 9K Onan diesel. Had 2700 hours on that when I got rid of the boat. Only thing I ever did was change raw water impeller. Said change at 400 hours. My experience, better change at 300 hours or it’s going to crap out at the worst time.
With any boat 20 years old or more. Maintenance is a part of boat ownership. Those sea ray 340 are nice cruising boats. I have an 2003 340 with twin 5.7. A little better on fuel than those 7.4.
Bobby. if it was running fine before leaving, it most likely a float sticking. Pull the bowl. Be careful not to let the needle valve fall out or you’re screwed in an exotic place.😢
I totally have experienced that and many more. I had to hire people tho, sucked and very expensive. It is good you can do most of your repairs. Keep on Keepin' on.
Check the safety switches on the gen. Oil Pressure or Oil Level are common ones to fail, which signals the gen to shutdown immediately. Sometimes they can be bypassed by holding down the start button, not sure on Westerbeke's though.
Also, make sure the remote panel (if there is one) isn't set as gen off. Try starting from the remote panel instead, because if the remote panel isn't matching it will force shutdown each time.
Amandalicious, sure seems like a keeper to me too, being very easy on the eyes and looking like a whole lot of fun to be around, as she does her thing glamorously, while enjoying all the different adventures she is experiencing all around the world. Keep her safe Bobby!
I always had issues with vacuum hoses in Carburettor driven engines if the hose has disconnected or hole etc simple fix etc, ps check the clamp holding the hose to the carbie, could be to lose or too tight and put a hole in the hose.
I was at the cape last week when you were there, I wish I would have recognized the boat. Believe it was your drone that hit the palm tree by the pool and Restaurant? Great spot, have followed your videos for a couple years
could you do a video on what it cost to cruise around the Bahamas for a month on you Sundancer? Did you drive your boat to the Bahamas and if so where did you leave Florida from?
Carry an alternative fuel source. It's what we do when diag for no start. Carb spray is best propane is too unreliable. From there it's fuel supply or fuel management. You might even have a fuel bowl you can see into for a supply diag but volume can always mess with you. What I do on rv gen set is I made a temp fuel supply from a 12v cheap pump and hoses to hook up to carb inlet and drops into a gallon tank with some clamps on the wire ends to grab 12v n ground on starter or where ever. Could it be that the fuel level in the boat is bellow the reserve of the gen set.
That only applies if you have fuel injection. His generator has a carburetor and more than likely a mechanical fuel pump. I would start at the carburetor and check to see if the floats are sticking not allowing the bowl to fill with fuel.
Is there a boat service shop that you could take it to? I realize it may cost a few bucks but so does staying at marinas because you can’t anchor or moor without a generator.
Part of that is because everything is installed at the factory in the hull, then the top deck is screwed on. So the old saying “ well it went in there, it should come out” , doesn’t always apply.
You can always fill the end of a socket with a piece of paper towel and jamming the bolt into the socket with paper towel around the bolt will hold the bolt tight and help you get the bolt started.
Suggest that you don't skimp on 'tools', and always carry a second less expensive set in order to avoid what you are going through a second time. Cheapies are for 'back ups' ONLY!
Bobby keep it real as always All boats i said all boats need maintenance. Anyone that can't come to terms with that shouldn't buy a boat You will sell that boat
I still question her commitment to you. Sorry but it still looks like she’s working for herself. That tattoo was more prove of that fact. Loved it! I’m sure many did!
I have to say the Japanese cars are the best and most reliable cars in the world. Very hard could e air filter Fuel filter pump or air in the pipes. Also as a carb it could be the float.
i think the joy of cruising is looking up out of the bilge and seeing Amanda smiling down at you . Almost paradise .
I…think…..it’s….time for a NEW Boat!😎
Good to see that some countries still drive on the correct side of the road. 😀

wow..what an adventure. I am glad you guys got the safe and sound

Oh Bobby, the joys of boating! At least your First Mate is there to soothe your angst!
Bobby, how would a top of the line technician do down in that area? If I bought a boat, loaded my tools on board... and offered mechanic services at the dock I pull into, could that be a workable living?
That I think is a great idea, I bet you’d be damn busy.

This is a true picture of real life boating! So relatable for those of us sailing full time as well.

Girl has great attitude.
She does! When we have boat issues here and there we don't always feel so calm and cool over here aboard Tela Ru! Ha!
Loving the music
Thanks for sharing some of the "REAL" boat life. It's still better than sitting in my office working(or finishing taxes). What a life !
Really like the date/location graphics.
Great place for dinner-cheers!
Ether, Bob. Ether solves _all_ generator problems.

Congratulations to Amanda it’s look seriously she enjoy ❤️🌹❤️thanks
Have friend in our dock in Missouri who works big gen sets and some small ones. He calls those "Westerbroke" Over heating is big problem. Good luck.
The videos show that Amanda has slacked off on her housekeeping chores!
I totally have experienced that and many more. I had to hire people tho, sucked and very expensive. It is good you can do most of your repairs. Keep on Keepin' on.
We've learned just how much money can be saved by learning to do the boat projects and repairs ourselves too. Whew but it sure isn't always fun!
Check the safety switches on the gen. Oil Pressure or Oil Level are common ones to fail, which signals the gen to shutdown immediately. Sometimes they can be bypassed by holding down the start button, not sure on Westerbeke's though.

Amanda is such a step up! Hope she is around for a long time. You never know how someone is IRL but she certainly comes across like a keeper. 👍🏻
Amandalicious, sure seems like a keeper to me too, being very easy on the eyes and looking like a whole lot of fun to be around, as she does her thing glamorously, while enjoying all the different adventures she is experiencing all around the world. Keep her safe Bobby!
Aww thank you ☺️
I needs some Geraldine !
I always had issues with vacuum hoses in Carburettor driven engines if the hose has disconnected or hole etc simple fix etc, ps check the clamp holding the hose to the carbie, could be to lose or too tight and put a hole in the hose.
Dang shame about the generator, but the music was GREAT, BOBBY!! Be safe, always from the Philippines.
Agree- we also enjoyed the music in this one!
Try looking into fuel pump/fuel filter possibly it is clogged
Yeah, dump out the water seperators.
8:40 Lol... Welcome Bob.
Always have call them Westertweaks cause you are always working on them.
I was at the cape last week when you were there, I wish I would have recognized the boat. Believe it was your drone that hit the palm tree by the pool and Restaurant? Great spot, have followed your videos for a couple years
check oil level on the generator
😂👍
‘Unforeseen problems”
How is your new boat going? Still going to the last schedule you mentioned?
could you do a video on what it cost to cruise around the Bahamas for a month on you Sundancer? Did you drive your boat to the Bahamas and if so where did you leave Florida from?
Nice to see a father and daughter head out on adventures.
Seems boats and RVs have something in common ........ a lot of maintenance.
BOAT Break Out Another Thousand

Bleed the fuel line. Schrader valve on top?

I like watching for all the tips. We are about to head to the Bahamas this summer for a week. What is good generator edict in an anchorage?
Have you checked for water in your fuel? I had trouble with water many years ago. Wishing you good sailing. Gman
RATCHET, dang it !!!
"I pray that the gods bless Bob with the tool he needs" LOL hilarious!!!
😂😂😂
Sea Ray’s are great boats- except the engine compartment. It’s obvious that the designers never had to actually do maintenance on the boat.
Part of that is because everything is installed at the factory in the hull, then the top deck is screwed on.
So the old saying “ well it went in there, it should come out” , doesn’t always apply.
Most boats suck. You need to be a monkey to work on them.......
ahhhh, the life.......
You didn’t post your golf score.
You need to get your chef Amanda to bake you some buns.😂
Yeah take out your frustrations on her.......🤣
If you bought the expensive stuff at Home Depot (where I work) it would hold up better.
Love a good cold kalik in the Bahamas
Re: generator, could it be fuel? Maybe use a temp fuel supply of known good fuel.
When is this boat getting sold. I am not interested.. I like the website and keeping up on the story.
Where to rent cheap boats or sailboats in the carribean to cruise for a week?
You can always fill the end of a socket with a piece of paper towel and jamming the bolt into the socket with paper towel around the bolt will hold the bolt tight and help you get the bolt started.
Bobby turn the fuel on!😮
You didn’t make the bed before you left??
Surprised about the RHD cars, surely easier to get them from the UK than Japan??
Spray some carby cleaner into the carby Bobstar!
sehr schön macht spaß euch beide zu sehen
On westerbeke every spring I would have to tap fuel pump which is electric with a hammer to free it up after sitting. Worked after that
My 2005 5.7kW Koler generator is no better.. always a flight to get it to run.
Nice bout to explore cost of Marmaris )
Call Jamie and get him a makers ticket!
I agree, “everyone needs to run errands “,… why not do them some where nice!
Mooring Doodles strikes again
Bobby.... dang son she's a keeper... better put a ring on it...🎉
Suggest that you don't skimp on 'tools', and always carry a second less expensive set in order to avoid what you are going through a second time. Cheapies are for 'back ups' ONLY!
Boat ownership looks like a blast until you have engine problems- yikes!
Nice work, but after seeing how much time and $ you’ve put into all the up keep on that boat. That’s a big no thank you.
a bucket of advill and a tuggie will make it all worth it
Well come on amanda you know the God didn't bless Bob with the "tool" he needs...lololol
It's never that simple.
Bobby showing some affection! Well, that’s a first 😉 keep showing us your tender side Bobby, it suits you well ☺️
Love your videos
Netanyahu's son is tanning in Miami.
Bobby keep it real as always
All boats i said all boats need maintenance.
Anyone that can't come to terms with that shouldn't buy a boat
You will sell that boat
Good on you Bobby enjoy some Golf!
I still question her commitment to you. Sorry but it still looks like she’s working for herself. That tattoo was more prove of that fact. Loved it! I’m sure many did!
Shhhh I’m trying to steal her from him.
Have you ever crassed paths with SV Sailing Sunday? Not sure how far behind these videos are. They are in the Exumas too.
Oh Golf ! thats a new !! what is your handicap bobby ?
You left the boat that messy???
It looks like someone broke in and ransacked the place!🤣🤦🏻♂️
I have to say the Japanese cars are the best and most reliable cars in the world. Very hard could e air filter Fuel filter pump or air in the pipes. Also as a carb it could be the float.
Dry messy boat
It’s a lemon
Buy nice or buy twice lol
Some people are blessed if you know what I mean !! Like wow
Cruising = maintenance in exotic ports :)
Isn't a boat a hole in the ocean into which you pour money ?
I miss the fish tacos and the Staniel Cay Yacht club. They are so good
Don't need the premium music
W0W!
Well if no one else knows that boat is an acronym for Bring Out Another Thousand...
If there is nothing wrong with your boat,…….you haven’t found the next broken thing….😮
My boats : A hole in the water you through money into 💦 Love This Channel
