The little dark lump is probably a skin tag or a warty growth, both nothing to worry about, Key has had both as well as fatty lumps and cysts. I accidentally twisted a skin tag off Key once that I thought was a tick! It didn't hurt him, he didn't even notice as it was barely attached. Hope you figure out what the liver issue is.

The storm looked cool. Jamie and greg hiding under the bridge 😂 even had their own waterfall. All the snuggles for Memphis, getting older sucks sometimes.
Eleanor’s woos just slay me. She is so adorable. Memphis is so calm as the other two scramble around and on her! The two guys kayaking was a fun bit. I loved going along vicariously. Thanks Jamie! Our prayers are with you Memphis. My Cookie and Charlie were very sick with dog flu, major diarrhea. I've been giving them rice and Acidophilus. They are doing better. My Cookie is 13yrs and cherish the time I have with her. Kayaking looks like fun ❤❤❤ Joan 😊
Oh no... I hope she is OK. She looks tired poor baby. It was cute how Kira was smelling her tail, but it's nerve-wracking seeing them jumping so close to her when she just wants to rest. I would put some kind of soft barricade all around her, like folded up blankets or towels all around her so they don't hurt her. Memphis is so beautiful, I pray for the best results.

Ghillie went though a time last year when he had really high liver levels. We tested for bunch of stuff, including lyme & lepto but everything came back normal. He was on liver support medication for about a month and the next blood test after than showed everything was good. We didn't do the abdominal ultrasound because we were concerned about the sedation with his condition. Drizzle has some lumps and bumps that we keep an eye on but none of them showed anything concerning with the needle biopsy. Hopefully Memphis's results come back clean
Yeah we are going to move forward with the abdominal ultrasound, as they have to remove that bump on her paw, and said she will only have light sedation, and she has done okay with that before. And since they are confident they can remove that lump at the same time, I figured why not. And yes, I am hoping it comes back as nothing. Which liver support did you do? I am sure they will suggest denamarin.
@@SnowDogsVlogs I'd have to check my records to be 100% sure, but Denamarin sounds right. it was a blue pill that he had to have on an empty stomach. The seizure meds he is on does not affect his liver like some of them do so we have no idea why his liver levels were elevated. I asked about adding milk thistle to his meds and supplements but my Vet said unless he was actively having an issue, to not use it.
Milk Thistle did wonders for my 12 year old poodle. Her lever livers were really high and we tried every medication we could and nothing helped, until we tried mil thistle or Silymarin after a vet suggested it as a last resource (like it won't hurt to try and see). After a month, her levels went back to normal and they have been ever since. I even make sure that her dog food have it added since it helps old dogs a lot (I noticed the Brit brand has it included).
I hope it works for Memphis too!

Hope all turns out well for Memphis!! We’ve been through a similar situation and my husky, Skye, still lived til 15 1/2. I wish I knew about senior checkups and medication to help liver issues- my vet never mentioned anything… I’ll know when my 2 new husky rescues get to be older! Thanks for sharing all the dog stuff!! ❤

My 7 year old girl Astra has a skin tag that started small (I immediately had it looked at) it grew but I have been told MANY times by our vet it is a skin tag. Astra also has hypothyroidism that was diagnosed last year when she started gaining weight. My 9 year old Karma is doing well, but she is having some issues on the sides of her mouth that the vet says it is from mositure build up under the jawls....I have wipes she prescribed. She said it will get worse, which makes me uncomfortable, but I do trust her as she has been a true lifesaver for us. Sending positive vibes for Memphis and you all.

My elderly childhood dog , he’s a little Maltese 16 1/2 years old has slightly elevated liver enzymes too . Vet says he’s fine just something that happens as a dog ages . Freaked me out when I was first told but was reassured he is fine just old haha . He is on some sort of medication for it just to keep it stable/lower it. Memphis is fine I know it ! Just a sophisticated older lady ( insert elegant music here ) 😂❤🐶🐶🐶

The milk thistle definitely helped my Soldier's liver enzyme issues when he was younger (4-5yo, he's 14 now). Between me and his doctor, our best guess was that he ate something he shouldn't have that put his liver into overdrive. His levels were back to normal about 6 months later after the thistle. What?! A feisty Memphis? We don't see that very often, was it a body snatcher? Also ask Jamie & Greg what does smoke sound like? Totally waited to see is Jamie rocked too far and fell in. "we don't wanna get wet. Its nice and dry, like we like it" ...proceeds to leave both vehicles out and get soaked. Jamies laugh is so great, like a deep chuckle.

And THAT is the biggest reason I do it. Whenever I start to think I don't want to because I don't want to scare people, my second thought is always, if it helps even one person, it's worth it.
Maya has a level of about 1300. She has had it for years. That is the only one that is elevated and the bile acid blood tests were normal. I did not opt for a liver biopsy. Vets are aware and say that that one is the one they worry about the least. She does take milk thistle and sam e sometimes for it.

While I don’t work with dogs, I do work with humans. In humans, an elevated AlkP (alkaline phosphatase) with the remaining LFTs being normal is often associated with gallbladder disease.
Glad Memphis is okay. Thanks for the advice about the Milk Thistle, I'm looking into getting the supplement for my kitty and pup. Nice storm. Uh oh jeep is wet inside. Wow nice thunder hit. Don't know Jess if it's the same with dogs, but in human females, Milk Thistle is a no-no for women with Fibroid Tumors or risk of breast cancer, etc. Because, it's estrogenic. Just thought I should give you that info. Well Being to your pack! (doggo & otherwise)
Memphis is getting up there in age I can see it in her face :( I remember the day u brought her home her and my rescue are same age it sucks as the get older 😢 I’ll keep you and Memphis in my prayers. And deff get liver tested my old boy who I just had to let go in Jan had liver issues I forgot the name of test but we did blood work a urine test and a ultra sound and scope test of some kind and he had liver failure we put him on ursidol vet told me two years max well he lived almost 5 extra years made it to 13 1/2 years old
My dog gets the senior checkup as well, and he also had an elevated liver level. It's typically normal, but we'll test again in a few weeks, and hopefully, it's all good, but with my dog, it was one linked to the thyroid.

Adored Beast has an amazing liver tonic which cleanse the liver. My chocolate lab had the same result as Memphis and now is normal. That was the only thing different I dif. Check with your vet but there stuff is great!!!❤❤❤

My husky had a similar lump but on her head, i had it remove. It grew bigger by this time. It came back as pigemtion cancer. My vet is confident he got it all so it will not grow back. It not the type which spread. But she can have more. It common in white dogs i heared
I (human) had elevated liver enzymes. Turned out I had gallstones which required me to have my gall bladder removed. Do dogs have gall bladders?

I want to share this information since I think it would be beneficial for you guys to know since I am worried about you guys being concerned and want to help. I work in a veterinary field however please work directly with your Doctor to determine what is best for Memphis. These are my opinions and based on my experience alone. I know that you guys are concerned but please don't loose sleep over it. I remember meeting you guys in Tampa during RV show and you were super nice.
I am glad that your veterinarian will be removing the growth and hopefully sending for histopathology just in case. Older pets are prone to getting cysts & masses in general and most of the masses are benign and don't interfere w/ quality of life of the pets. However, the best way to determine if it's truly something malignant is completely removing it with good margins and sending out for histopathology.
About her elevation in her liver enzymes (ALKP) that was seen though. It can be as simple as a bad blood draw or she consumed something that she was not supposed to or elevations are caused by an unknown disease/condition.
Let's talk about a bad blood draw. I want to give a little context about how the blood is run for that panel that Memphis had. Whenever the blood is taken from the dog, the blood is transferred from the syringe into a serum separator blood tube for this panel. The tube then needs to be spun in a centrifuge to separate blood from the serum. Finally, the serum then needs to be sucked in using a pipette and then transferred into a sample cup that is going to be put into a blood machine. There are some blood work machines that have a centrifuge inside of them to avoid having to use a separate centrifuge and extra steps. However, the Serum is what actually being used to get blood work results for this panel and what is being put into a blood work machine.
Depending on the patient's temperament, patient's veins and/or technician's experience, sometimes after spinning the blood in the centrifuge there might be hemolysis noted in the serum that is causing elevations in blood work values. It all depends on how good of a blood draw it was if hemolysis will be present or not. You do not want hemolysis in the serum for the most accurate result and hemolysis is determined by visually looking at the color of the serum after spinning the blood tube. The more red the serum looks like, the more hemolysis there is. Whenever technicians get the blood, they always try to poke once right in the vein to acquire the best sample. However, it does not always happen and sometimes they need to "fish" (moving the needle around to find the vein while in the body). So, bad blood draw can cause hemolysis which then can cause elevations in the values. They always try to to get a "clean stick" w/o "fishing" but it's not always the case either because pet is moving too much or the vein is hard to find and then feel or just plain bad veins or the technique is not on point. Sometimes it's harder to find the vein the more fur there is. Sometimes if you just get another sample that is not hemolyzed result can be much better/more accurate.
So, what is normally done when there are findings of elevated ALKP and/or another liver enzyme called ALT?
Normally pet is started on a supplement called Denamarin Advanced to help liver regenerate itself and then the liver/blood work panel is recommended to be rechecked after being on the supplement for a month. Sometimes, prescription liver diets (Hills l/d, Royal Canin Renal Support) are recommended long-term/at least until the recheck. It all depends on the doctor
Also, sometimes another diagnostic is recommended called Bile Acids test. It's a blood test and it checks if the liver is working properly.
Moreover, if after being on Denamarin Advanced for a month values are still elevated and/or worse then ultrasound is recommended to check for potential tumors and other potential causes of elevation.
All of those recommendations and the timings depend on the doctor really and owner's hopeful compliance.
One disease that can cause elevations in ALKP is called Cushing's disease. Normally the symptoms that you see with that disease are: excessive drinking, increased appetite, reoccurring skin infections, enlargement of the abdomen, resulting in a "pot-bellied" appearance. I am not sure if she is showing any signs.
Also, sometimes dogs like to drink water from plant pots and that can cause elevations as well.
It can be that you're just going to come back and values are going to be just fine.
I hope this information helps is any way.

And yes, Dr. Danielle isn't overly concerned, and we will be doing another blood test at her next appointment, and if all is back to normal, we don't do any further test right now.
Currently, they don't think it's cushings, as she doesn't have any of the other symptoms, but it's something we are keeping on our mind to watch out for for sure!
I 100% will keep the vlog in the loop on this for sure, as this is our life, and our journey. And again, thank you so much for this! I wrote a few things down such as the bile acids test. I have used denamarin before, we tried it with Shelby, but sadly it didn't help, and yes, the food as well. We may switch her to a senior formula of food, we are discussing all of it with our vets.
