If you're a Paladin then consider going Blessed Hammer like in the video. Also, run Concentration Aura when throwing your hammers because it ups the damage of your hammers quite a bit (although it doesn't reflect in the attribute panel). Don't run from him, strongly consider toggling to walk. You lose 1/3rd of your Chance to Block and negate 95% of your defense if you get hit while running in Diablo 2 but don't if you're walking, attacking/casting or standing still. What you see in this video is what a pretty decent amount of defense can do, it means Duriel's haymakers often miss you. Combined with a decent Chance to Block and his devastating swings miss or get blocked at a fairly high rate. Cold resist isn't that helpful. Melee characters most often have trouble with the attack slow and his damage is largely physical which means it can be blocked/avoided by defense. Cannot Be Frozen and Half Freeze Duration also do not help with the slow, neither do Thawing Potions although popping 3-4 before the fight makes him do slightly less damage. If you're a squishy ranged class then potion your mercenary and keep him alive (Act 2 Defensive mercenary lives the longest), use Shift+1/2/3/4 hotkeys which will use the potions off your belt on your mercenary instead. Attack from a half-screen away where you aren't being frozen by his aura. Stack as much defense on your mercenary as you can and think about gemming a skull or two into his weapon so he has lifesteal. His job isn't to damage in this fight, it's to tank so that you can think and take your time without being punched in the face. Keep him alive. If he dies go back to town and revive him and re-stock on potions. Other little things that can help are applying slow to him with some form of cold damage modifier, whether a 1-2 cold damage small charm or a single sapphire gemmed into your weapon or your mercenary's weapon, it works the same and only one source of it is necessary (doesn't apply from spells, so Sorceress should put it in merc's weapon). If you're a Sorceress, consider using Static Field to devastate his HP bar. Even at level 1 Static Field, he can be brought down to 25% HP in mere seconds, it falls off at 25% in Normal though so switch at that point to your main spell. Also, be careful because you have to get close to Static Field and will likely be taking a lot of damage for that few seconds you use it.
If you only knew then that Static field can almost reduce his life to 10-15%. 😂 But yes, he was much harder to beat on non expansion Diablo 2, since items were very weak, especially with no good unique and runewords like Leaf.

Its not that hard not to die at duriel in normal mode. Just be properly geared and use your most powerful skills to kill him quicker.

How the Hell? When I tried to fight him, he took out most of my health in a single hit and you're just tanking his shots without a problem.
I'm playing duo and we got screwed with only one hit. It doesn't make sense.

You must at least at level 30 at this point and have blasehammer and 50 percent cold resist
