Overall this songs works best with Sarajevo, as both are sister songs sharing the beat. At first song is cheerful, representing happiness from war finally ending, but as it continues, actuall lyrics from Sarajevo starts playing, symbolising, that in reality, Treaty of Versailees is not the end, only the beggining for another war. I just love the song ending on the ominous note, with music becoming more and more haunting, dark and menecing, which is just perfect when you realise, that in historical order, just as this song ends, Rise of Evil begings.
This and Sarajevo are such excellent bookends to the album and they have that warped mirror image of each other. It really, REALLY fits. Keep it up, Dave! (P.S. The dove is carrying an olive branch. That's the symbol for peace.)
One of the most controversial terms of the treaty was the War Guilt clause, which explicitly and directly blamed Germany for the outbreak of hostilities. The treaty forced Germany to disarm, to make territorial concessions, and to pay reparations to the Allied powers in the staggering amount of $5 billion. This treaty was simply a foundation for WW2. The Treaty created much resentment in Germany, which was exploited by Adolf Hitler in his rise to power at the helm of Nazi Germany. Central to this was belief in the stab-in-the-back myth, which held that the German army had not lost the war and had been betrayed by the Weimar Republic, who negotiated an unnecessary surrender. The Great Depression exacerbated the issue and led to a collapse of the German economy. Though the treaty may not have caused the crash, it was a convenient scapegoat. Germans viewed the treaty as a humiliation and eagerly listened to Hitler's oratory which blamed the treaty for Germany's ills. Hitler promised to reverse the depredations of the Allied powers and recover Germany's lost territory and pride, which has led to the treaty being cited as a cause of World War II. A final installment of US$94 million was made on 3 October 2010, settling German loan debts in regard to reparations. A while back I listened to a podcast that went through the Versailles Peace Treaty in excruciating, but also interesting, detail. From it, I learned how far away the common knowledge of it is from the actual truth. Those war reparations that people have kept harping about since the Nazis used it as a propaganda weapon? The official figure is 132 billion gold marks. But the Allies never actually expected Germany to pay all of it. I don't remember the exact figure but over half of that was just there to look good to British voters, that Germany had been made to pay. Behind closed doors everyone was aware that the actual reparations where much smaller. But since this wasn't widely known, and the British voters very quickly changed their minds and became sympathetic to the Germans, it has become a "fact" to beat Versailles with like a cudgel. Additionally the Germans actually offered to pay 120 billion before the the ceasefire. The final figure was much lower then the Allies initially conceived. On the the war guilt clause. It's amazing how what the Germans took out from it was not at all what the Allies intended with it. It did not blame Germany for the war, it blamed them for the DAMAGES they had caused during it. The reason it was there was to provide justification for the reparations. Every treaty signed with the Central Powers had one, but only the Germans harped about. The idea we have about Versailles in popular culture come mostly from what the Germans thought about it, and isn't that a bit messed up. The Treaty itself wasn't a cause of WW2. The fact that Germany lost WW1 and refused to accept it was. I not sure any treaty would have solved that. Still, thus this mean that the Peace was actually really a brilliant document? Obviously not. It was a messy compromise to end a long and messy war. But how the treaty came to be and what it actually was is a story that is so much more interesting then pop culture has led us to believe. It's just that the story is way to long and complicated to easily summarize. For those who are brave, and have way to much time to kill, I point you to the When Diplomacy Fails Podcast. He has almost 90 episodes covering Versailles which he made for the Centennial of the treaty negotiations. Most of them are over an hour long. He didn't quite realize what he had gotten himself into before it was way to late.

Sarajevo/Versailles is my favorite off the new album. I count it as one two part song. Great bookeneds for the album and a powerful prelude to the next war...
Versailles is so incredible in how it perfectly captures the tone of the end of WW1 and the consequences of the peace treaty. A triumphant end to “The War to End All Wars” followed by the realization that this war would not, in fact, end all war. The end of WW1 should have been a triumphant end to 4 years of horror, and for the winners, it may have been. But harsh penalties inflicted on the Germans, who were on the losing side of the war, would contribute to decades of economic strife, which would lead to the rise of the Nazi party (headed by a certain bitter mustached man who himself was a veteran of the First World War) as many people sought a way to end their struggles and suffering. So the line “Will this war bring another war?” hit especially hard, because really if the winners had been more lenient on Germans in the treaty of Versailles, the Nazis may have never risen to power in Germany and there may have never been a World War 2 (at least, not the same WW2).
One of my lines to say when it comes to the question of "what is the price of peace?". I say "we already know the price of a mile." Sabaton already told us the Price of Peace, and it's more than Any of us can afford...
The problem is not that they were punished it is that they were not enforced. Nothing like germany and their 75mm armed howitzer agricultural tractors (Grosstraktor), there is apparently some really big crows that need to be dealt with.
@LordVader1094 No of course not. If I was in charge of Germany at the time I too would throw the treaty out the window. The biggest problem with versies was the lack of enforcement. Had they actually enforced it Germany would not have been able to start WWI Part 2 Electric Boogaloo. Hitler would have had to take a much more drastic measure while being in a very losing position or take a more measured approach to avoid being jumped on.
@@madogthefirst Also, those German bombers... Idk why, but I swear I've seen them before... They kinda looked like the airliners I saw on the airports during my visit there last month?
Well, War will never leave us. It is part of us... We are Warriors dreaming of peace. The only hope is that wars shall be fought by diplomats with words and not with soldiers and guns.
It’s interesting how despite the lyrics, the end of the song sounds like “it’s the war that will end the world.” It’s probably not an accident that it sounds like that.

"This is not peace! This is a 20 year ceasefire!" French General Ferdinand Foch on the Versailles Treaty ... At least he didn't live long enough to know how right he was ...
"One must regard these 30 years of strife, turmoil, and suffering in Europe as part of one story...one story of a 30 years war." Sir Winston Churchill. The Treaty of Versailles didn't really end anything. It was more like pressing the pause button for 20 years. The Treaty of Versailles had 440 clauses, and if I remember correctly, 419 of those clauses placed sole blame for the outbreak of the first world war at Germany's feet. It forced them to give up their air force, their navy was all but eliminated, their army was not to exceed 100,000 men, surrender all military vehicles for the exception of light duty trucks, and light troop transports forfeit territory, much of which, including the city of Danzig was given to the newly reestablished nation of Poland, effectively splitting Germany in two, relinqushment of all of Germany's African and Pacific colonies, as well as hitting them with what today would be 500 billion dollars in war reparations. The humiliating terms of the treaty guaranteed the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party and insured that the men that managed to survive the slaughter that was WWI would have done so just to send their sons into the meat grinder that was WWII.
It’s true too! 1930’s Hitler and his Nazi regime continued to grow. Remember, Adolf Hitler was a veteran of World War 1 along with Stalin and Churchill. Mussolini was too. Franklin Roosevelt had no idea what was coming until the US Trade deals with Japan fell apart which Japan still held onto their Bushido way of life and once the trade deal fell through, Germany and Japan were aligned as allies and the we got hit at Pearl Harbor.

@@madogthefirst So Germany was supposed to eternally be restricted from having a proper military like all the other powers?
@LordVader1094 No of course not. If I was in charge of Germany at the time I too would throw the treaty out the window.
The biggest problem with versies was the lack of enforcement. Had they actually enforced it Germany would not have been able to start WWI Part 2 Electric Boogaloo. Hitler would have had to take a much more drastic measure while being in a very losing position or take a more measured approach to avoid being jumped on.
@@madogthefirst Also, those German bombers... Idk why, but I swear I've seen them before... They kinda looked like the airliners I saw on the airports during my visit there last month?
Love how Sarajevo and Versailles work together. The first is in minor, the other is in major
After listening to this album I got myself a book about WW1. Need to know all the details.
6:39 don't know exactly what plant that is but both it and the dove represent Peace.
i believe it's an olive branch, 'could be wrong though
@@midnightMoonlight09 it is a olive leave ! .. the olive leaves is a sign of peace, and the White Dove is a Sign of freedom ... so a Dove with a olive leaves is "freedom of peace ! "
"War will never entirely die, it will evolve, it will change. And it will return, SOONER THAN WE THINK!" And look at Europe these days! WAR! it took only about 77 years .... sad
Well done dave! sabaton fans unite. i hope to see sabaton at the graspop festival in belguim this summer. its gonna be amazing.
"This is not peace! This is a 20 year ceasefire!"
French General Ferdinand Foch on the Versailles Treaty ... At least he didn't live long enough to know how right he was ...
No he knew anyway. That's a Bismarckian level precognitive prediction. He called it perfectly. He knew full well.
i love this song for how it plays with the idea of a Triumphant Reprise
3:03 the rise of Hitler and the the Third Reich, aka the Nazi’s
There is only one way to ensure eternal peace between humanity and it's a very silent and empty world left behind by such measures.
Soldier of Heaven is an amazing song and hope ya do a reaction of it
I’m a grown man, I definitely don’t tear up hearing this song
This just somehow touch me these days. Awsome album overall.
Whats even more crazy is when you actually realize how close WW1 finished and WW2 Started.
Could you please give the end of the war to end all wars by Sabaton. I haven't seen you do a reaction about that song?
It’s true too! 1930’s Hitler and his Nazi regime continued to grow. Remember, Adolf Hitler was a veteran of World War 1 along with Stalin and Churchill. Mussolini was too. Franklin Roosevelt had no idea what was coming until the US Trade deals with Japan fell apart which Japan still held onto their Bushido way of life and once the trade deal fell through, Germany and Japan were aligned as allies and the we got hit at Pearl Harbor.
WW1 ended on the 11th of november 1918. Four years and four months .
If you enjoy the narrations and learning a bit more about some of the songs I suggest listening to the history version of the album.
Yo did you ever listen to the tracks Winter War and White Death, kinda remember seeing some comments from you like 4 months ago about that :P No real need to hurry with those, just wondering.
Sarajevo: the good ending
Its been said the day WW1 ended WW2 began
I wonder if they will make songs about the battles being fought in Ukraine...
You go blast and enjoy those songs Dave ❤️
