There reporting a bridge collapse because it literally did collapse lad and every news station has reported it was a ship at fault so how is it misleading 😂
Hind sight is always 20/20. If the harbor protocol were to keep the 2 tugs assigned to “undock” the Dali engaged until South of the FSK Bridge, there would have been no loss of the bridge. I suspect once the new bridge is built, that will become the new protocol. I watched an operating ship engineer explain the prop effect from starting a single prop ship engine in reverse. In this instance which according to him that me be the case because of the dark smoke exiting the stack after electrical power loss. Upon start in reverse the prop turns counter clockwise (looking forward from astern the ship) which drives the bow to starboard turning the ship in this case directly into the lone South vertical support member. In this case reversing the engines and deploying the port forward anchor with little distance between the ship and that major vertical support member was the wrong call. At this point until more information which may be contrary to this operating engineer’s view emerges, I believe this is the best explanation of what happened.
How lucky are those cars speeding off seconds before the collapse! I wish good health and a great recovery to the people affected by this calamity. May your gains far outweigh the losses.
"Going hard to port?" No...the ship went hard starboard! Why? But for that hard right it does not hit the pylon. Moreover, where were the dolphins or barriers that buffer the impact? After 1980 and the incident in Tampa where the Sunshine Skyways bridge was brought down by a large tanker ship, bridges everywhere started retroactively placing these buffer columns called "dolphins" around the actual support pylons of the bridge. What has the harbor authority been doing in Baltimore?

0:07 / 2:31 Baltimore bridge collapse: How did it happen? What a freakin stupid question? It would be still standing, if a huge ship hadn't smacked into it!
I’d say 90% of the structures built before the 90s are insufficient and the government knows this. They just can’t afford to fix it so stay quiet and It’s swept under the rug for future generations to deal with… Seems a common theme with the boomer generation…

The ship lost power and once back up power came on the rudder was locked and the propulsion caused it to veer to the side. Then seconds later the ship started smoking and power went out again so they had no way to counter steer. So they ended up hitting the bridge with no control going at 9 knots.
the ship should not have been going at such speeds when there is a bridge at the vicinity. Haven't the port authorities and the pilot heard of Murphy's law?
“The Key Bridge was an attack folks. Don’t listen to the lies being told it wasn’t. I’m former intel. Lived near the bridge when I worked at Fort Meade. After that, 32 years in cybersecurity. Now retired. This was a cyber attack through the ships navigation system. The ship didn’t lose power. The crew shutdown power frantically, twice, to reset the systems to try to thwart the attack. Obviously, that didn’t work. I can’t imagine ship navigation systems are any more secure than the notoriously unsecure ADS-B navigation system used by aircraft. Easy to hack.”

I don't think collapse and being "knocked down and destroyed" are mutually exclusive. Collapse is a form of destruction, a collision with a boat is the cause. It was designed to be a bridge and not a crash barrier for ships that hadn't been built yet As with the derailments in the US this will be down to safety measures being deemed bad for business as building a buffer of some sort around the pillars of the bridge would have impacted traffic sailing past and reduced the flow of goods.
