do you feel like this lens would be better than bringing some pancake primes I'm travelling this week and I was thinking of going pancake primes and 55-250mm but this video has got me re-thinking and going 18-135mm but the only thing is I have a crop sensor so it would be helpful if it was f2.8 :D
It really depends on what you’re filming and the kind of depth field you need your image. The primes will definitely give you better bokeh, But you’ll have better reach with the 18 to 135. I always base those kinds of decisions off of what I want to look like.
@@ajwilliamsmedia I agree, but my fear is that if I want to have a longer reach ill be sad if I left the tele on the longer end, but then once I get the shot I have to lug around a Pringles can size of a lens because that shot will only be for specific cases, so ill test it out this weekend and hopefully it works out!
Hello great content stumbled on your channel when looking at mics, question about Glass - I use a cannon EOS 60D, thinking of making videos in 1080p for it, close range, only need 6 foot wide, talking half body video, could you please make a recommendation or possibly a video explaining a little more about what lenses for what purpose, thanks again keep up the great work!! I subbed you.!!
That’s a great video idea! It’s good because the lens you should use depends on what you want the video to feel like. The closer you are to the camera, the more intimate the viewer will feel. At 50mm you feel like we’re having a conversation in a public place. At 35mm you can stand closer to the camera and it feels more like a private conversation and at 24mm it’s even more intimate. But you also have to keep in mind the limitations of the space you’re filming in.
@@ajwilliamsmedia wow thank you for that im going to have to look for videos that show that till i find one that works best, thanks you so much for taking the time to explain.
Just bought the 24--105 f/2.8, my dealer had 11 in stock, sounded pretty happy to sell one. Anyway, I love it. I usually use Panny GH series for video, and dabbled with my R5 and R6 II, but I have the 28-70 and 85mm f/1.2 and those lenses are pretty heavy so to mount on a tripod just seems to put a lot of stress on the mount. I'm sure its technically not a problem but I love how the 24-105 has the collar and foot so can mount the lens to the tripod for interviews. Plus the other benefits of image stabilization, large aperture, etc.
Canon C70's!!! Yes. I have the 24-105 on one of my C70's and I am waiting on the Canon C400. It's more 35-150 now with S35. The images here are sweet. Very Canon looking.
For anyone in the apsc rf realm , buy the 24-105 f4 and boost it for a " cheap " 16-70 f2.8 On the other hand get the 24-70 2.8 and boost it to get a 16-45 f2
I’m actually thinking about getting the Ef 24-70 for that exact reason. But there are so many features that 2.8 version has that f4 version doesn’t. If your only concern is the look, you’re mostly right (I think the 2.8 version wins there too).
@JJARCHIE Gotcha! Yeah. There is definitely a diminishing return on value there. It’s crazy that you can get 98% of what a $3,000 lens can do for only $300.
@@ajwilliamsmedia i would say 80% for 10% of its value , the 2.8 is crazy sharp and has a lot of features most dont even know how to use for. Would be funny if tamron snuck in a 35-150 2-2.8 tho . .
It's a nice lens, but it's too corrected , to the point where you don't even get the 24mm field of view from it. The best RF lenses you can buy rn are the designs canon initially announced when RF out became a thing. They are over correcting their newer lenses too much to the point where they have deal breaker flaws.
It’s a common misconception that this particular lens doesn’t give a true 24mm field of view. It does, but the focus point is around mid-lens. This gives the illusion that it’s more like a 25 or 26mm lens when comparing to another 24mm, in reality you just need to back the camera up about 4 inches. This was tested pretty well on Sound It Out Films channel. Check out the video here if you’re interested: th-cam.com/video/aQmoTJCZOF8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=m6OTSqe--wXCc_u5
The f4 would have gotten the job done, but I wanted the extra reach (not speed boosted) and subject separation. The new image stabilization on this came in clutch as well. Lots of moving around.
What's your go to lens right now?
It's hard to not want to buy this lens. Might have to take the plunge on the next large lens purchase. Thanks for the review. Those fish are massive!
It’s the closest thing to a one-and-done lens that I’ve seen so far. Massive fish deserve a massive lens.
@@ajwilliamsmedia Haha! Apparently they do indeed.
Dream lens for sure. Every time I use my 24-105 EF it blows me away that they could make it this much better.
I was very impressed with it. Now I just need a new production so I can justify purchasing one. 😅

does it work with canon rf 2x entender?
I don’t see why it wouldn’t, but I don’t have a 2x extender to test. That would be a great experiment though.
I still love my ef lenses

Totally! I didn’t get a chance to use it on a tripod or use the collar. I love the lens and I hope you get a lot of good use out of it!

ya I want 135 but this is good

Agreed! I’ll be buying as soon as it’s in the budget.
As Fro Knows Photo says - GLASS ! GLASS!! GLASS!!! My go to lens right now is my Canon EF 100 f2.8 L Macro adapted on my R7.
Very solid choice! How are you liking the R7?
There’s a reason I am staying in my EF lane with the Pyxis coming 😂
I get it, for sure! I’m not getting rid of my EF glass either. But it’s hard to beat the quality and perks of the RF system.

There are rumors of a Sigma 18-35 full frame too!
