The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won.
They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst.
Who are we to judge them?
We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn.
And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask!
We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

The Tau have fought the Orks before. It went pretty surprising, actually. It wasn’t during a WAGH, but due to the Tau’s long distance fighting style, with downright refusal for melee combat the nearby Orks “weren’t having any fun” so they stopped. They stopped fighting the Tau and left them alone. If an Ork WAGH was determined enough to wipe out the Tau, they more then likely could, but that’s a bit of mental sophistication that is a bit above them to completely wipe them out with intention to see it through.

In there, they killed so many daemons before finally being brought down that Khorne himself (who found them hilarious btw. because they annoyed the other gods) took them, placed them on his personal planet where there is eternal war and made them rise every day anew after being killed.

    Tactical application for orks:
Orks are perfect for deep operations on a galactic scale. They can just be hurled on a planet, and once on it, it’ll be next to impossible to get them off again. They’re self sustaining, and don’t need a supply chain when they can weapon use their environment. Their belief based technology means that when you kill them all, their weapons and gear all become useless junk. I can definitely see the old ones using orks in this fashion to give the Necrons unending headaches in systems they thought were already cleansed of life

    • @kagato23
      @kagato23 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not completely. There is some science. Like, you can make an ork weapon fire. But put it in front of the mechanicus and you’ll be told this gun is made out of three and a half guns and even looking at it it makes no sense that it’s working, and if they attempt to duplicate it it will fail. But this gun will work. That said, it won’t work well and will break down fast… unless it gets back in the hand of an ork. Then it works great again. Yarrick could probably also use ork tek to full potential, as long as at least one ork who knows who he is sees him doing it. Like he does with his power klaw, since every ork knows Yarrick is a badass umie that can use a power klaw like an ork, so if e’s dat orky, e’ kin use most anyfing props.

Orks have about two different ways of consumption. Eating and drinking. Orks have been known to eat humans or whatever sort of meat they want. What’s most fascinating is they’ll cultivate their own fungus and turn into a alcoholic like drink and can drunk off said drink. But really, when it comes to Orks you shouldn’t overthink it. If enough of them truly believed they didn’t need food they wouldn’t grow hungry.
The best example is two different ships of Orks in space with their own teams fixing the ship. One team is wearing space suits and the other isn’t. When the team with suits told the other team they needed space suits as well, just the acknowledgement of what the first team said killed every single Ork not wearing a suit. Their biology is whatever the Old Ones made them to be and what they believe.

12:15 - The Shokk Attack Gun is basically a Portal gun attached to a reservoir of Snotlings. Imagine you're in a tank and suddenly out of nowhere an unstoppable flood of Snotlings appears in your tank. Not only that, the Snotlings have been made ill by their transport and in their panic they're fighting, puking, and crapping all over. The bottom of the tank gets filled with this unholy slurry while you and your mates are trying to stem the tide or get out but everything is incredibly slippery and all available space is filled with the unimaginably horrifying filth. Your life ends as you either gets killed outright by the Snotlings or die to wet or dry asphyxiation, crushed and drowned in Snotling offal and humors. All the hatches eventually pop and the tank is transformed into a reeking rancid tomb.
This is all assuming of course that the Mek Boy firing the gun doesn't have it misfire, either partially collapsing the Warp tunnel and turning the Snots into a fine chunky salsa sprayed all over, the thing self-destructs and creates a Warp hole, or a Daemon of the Warp comes through...

The fungus can survive on it's own, and is constantly released by the animal-like creatures it assembles. So, technically speaking, the fungi would be the real orks, and the things that act like animals are basically vehicles that the fungus builds, refuels, and repairs. Also the fungus is photosynthetic when it is in an orkoid (that's why they're green), but not when it is free in the wider environment, which is when it grows orkoids.

The mitochondria is a pretty good analogy, because of the endosymbiosis theory which pretty much says that mitochondria were once cells that were eaten by another cell that for some reason didn't digest it. Since the eaten cell could use oxygen for efficient energy production it was beneficial to the host cell and the host cell provided food and safety. With time the eaten cell lost most of its genes bearing those it needed for the production of ATP (transport form of energy in the cell) and became what is now known as the mitochondria. It is a pretty bad description but I am sure there are better ones online. It is a really interesting topic to read about.

In response to Orks being able to grow after the battle.
As far as the lore is concerned their fungus/plant like DNA is able to absorb nutrients from the atmosphere and can also perform a basic form of photosynthesis (according to some lore). Since they are also primarily fungus they're bodies are primarily compromised of a water like substance and so growing their muscles takes much less energy than say, a human muscle.
In addition ork hair is actually a squig that has attached itself to an Orks head and they provide the ork with protection and nutrients in exchange for the transportation to new environments where they can feed on the surroundings.

Something that stands out, the size argument you mentioned isnt valid with orcs. They can and do defy physics on a daily basis without even thinking about it. They conjure things from nothing and make machines which explode or fail if anyone who isnt an orc fires it. They have made double rocket launchers by hammering a metal rod through both barrels to hold it together and it still fires. Bothing about them makes any sense and I find that hillarious. If they believe something is true, it is true. Simple as that. The more there are, the more ridiculous those leaps of logic become.

    Regarding the orky food chain:
The fungus that sprouts up around greenskins is a mixture of saprophytic and chemosynthetic varieties. They reclaim nutrients from any kind of decaying organic matter as well as, if the right chemicals are present, creating them from non-organic sources. The fungus is then mostly eaten by squigs which in turn form the primary food source of the emerging greenskin tribe. This allows orks to survive and grow in places like space hulks where organic matter is pretty rare but various highly reactive chemicals might be abundant.

This effectively displace local biospheres and creates a system that, from the ground up, is working to feed the orks and provide them with everything they need. The fungus are the means by which nutrients are added to the otherwise closed system. But also, yes - they can eat pretty much anything that fits in their mouth.

Well as far as energy goes, there's a variety of squig for almost every calorie source you could imagine. The squigs eat everything kinda like more chill Tyranids (or space pigs). The orks eat the squigs, and grots, and snotlings, they have their fungus farms, and they have all the native life of whatever planet they're on, plus Orks are photosynthetic.

With regards to ork metabolic processes. Some sources state that orks can photosynthesise themselves. The spores also produce a colossal amount of fungus and lesser green skins that make for good food. And of course, good old squigs. Orks really aren’t picky. They happily eat the corpses of just about anything

The mitochondria is a good comparison because mitochondria is actually a separate single felled organism that lives inside of each cell.

The interesting thing about mitochondrial dna is that its straight up just the dna of a bacterium that got absorbed by eukaryotes back in the day, and the type of bacteria it's derived from still exists independently.

Currently in the lore there is a conflict between Orks and Tyranids know as the Octarius Wars. Basically one Imperial inquistor worked a plan to have both factions fight each other.

Regarding Orks energy intake, the old Deff Skwadron comic had a diagram page that showed the (hilariously nonsensical) cockpit of a dakkajet; one of the key things I took from it was the fuel line that runs through the cockpit incase the pilot gets thirsty. A quick Google search shows that a gallon of jet fuel has 33,963,886.5 calories, so I don't think they would run into a problem there!

First question answered, Orks eat fungi of all kinds as well as meat. A particularly favoured ingredient in their diet are Squigs, short for 'squiggly beasts' - a variety of symbiotic races about the size of a cat, but legless. Often the only ones consumed are those known as the 'Eaten Squigs', a limbless blob which feeds on fungus.

If I remember correctly, the Orkz aren't picky eaters. Like, they can somewhat rely on shrooms and squigs to sustain themselves, but they'll also eat anything else they can get their hands on, including their fallen enemies and comrades.

The metabolic of the orks are somewhat explained. Their society has many teirs, the bottom of which contains mushrooms and squigs. So although orks can eat most things, a huge portion of the tribes caloric intake comes from eating the food that grows specifically for them, which itself harvest sunlight and soil and air and stuff

Some people think the Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka, one of the more prominent orks was named after Thatcher. Mag Uruk Thraka doesn't sound too far off from Margaret Thatcher, and considering 40k was made in Britain in the 80s, its somewhat plausible.

Squigs, and their latent psi abilities. You point your finger at them, say bang, and they die. They point at you and “bang”, miniature nuclear explosion

ez explansion for ur question on how they sustain themselves. Ork smash he happy, Ork shoot he happy, Ork lose a fight but gets the kill. He happy.
Orks also eat pretty much anything edible.
