Mate in 8 and all, but it's just the first 3 moves you have to spot. "Oh, my queen's aiming at h6. Oh, if I have a queen on h6 and knight on g5 there's nothing black can do. Oh, I can bring my queen to h6 with tempo if I sack on h8." I didn't bother looking past that. Sure, black has moves, but all you need to do is wait your turn until you deliver checkmate.

Hey Agadmator, would you think about a Philidor mini-series? He's not got a lot of games in the database, but they're interesting, a lot of King's Gambots, and I think there's benefits to studying the masters of old like him and Morphy since they're playing so much on intuition. #suggestion

4:12 Found the mate in 8 moves, though it's only 8 moves because black can play some spite checks, and there are a few slight variations.
The first line I saw was:
    1. Rh8+ Kxh8 2. Qh6+ Kg8 3. Ng5 Qa5+ 4. Kf1 Bxe2+ 5. Kg1 Qe1+ 6. Rxe1 Rfd8 7. Qh7+ Kf8 8. Qxf7# 1-0
The variations come from which turn black plays Bxe2+, whether white takes the bishop or plays Kg1, and which combination black chooses among Nf6, Qe1+, Qxg5, or moving the rook from f8.
Obviously in the game they went for Nf6 and Qxg5 allowing Qg7# instead of the variation I gave, but all the lines are still 8 ply for white.

I'm leaving this comment to suggest the possibility that you may have gotten two players with similar names confused. Maxime *V*achier-Lagrave is a chess grandmaster who has made an appearance on agadmator's chess podcast, and is a master opening theorist, who would never lose such a game. Maxime achier Lagrave is a player with no digital footprint for whom no prior games can be found in the database, and who to the best of my knowledge has not been featured on agadmator's chess podcast.
I would be interested to hear your thoughts on whether you may have gotten these two players confused, and until then, my very best wishes
