How to make a Custom Guitar Stand / DIY Guitar Holder

  • Guitar stands are hard to find, in this video we build our own guitar holder.
    It's often nice to have something that no on else has ... kind of an envy thing for many, especially when you can build it yourself such as this DIY guitar stand fabricated in they style of the Fender Stratocaster neck. The arms are meant to emulate the ends of a Strat, just a detail that's pretty rare in guitar stands. This custom made stand, as it is, will fit most guitars with the possible exception of some larger, acoustic versions and some of the more creative designed electrics ... but for most standard guitars, this stand is perfect and unique.

      +Wood By Wright I seem to be able to work ok without plans, but I still get into trouble from time to time but I guess that's when you really learn things. Thanks for the comment, you are correct ... the detail is often what makes things, seems I am slowly learning that.

    Excellent stand! The use of the Stratocaster headstock shape for the bottom rests is one of those odd times when "function follows form". Just a thought here... you can purchase very inexpensive, real, in-line tuners in lieu of making pegs. The string posts coming through the headstock would have added a lot of realism to the finished stand.

    Nice job Colin. What kind of bit did you use in the router to match the hard board template?

    • @knecht105
      @knecht105  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +krn14242 That is called a patterning bit where basically the bearing is near the shank rather than a trim bit where the bearing is at the bottom end of the bit.

    I need some advice. For school I am building a chair as a project but I want the rear legs to be partially round, what i mean is that the under half is square but the upper half goes from square in the middle to fully round on the top. what is the best way to do this? I thought about a jig to round it over with a router and do the rest with hand tools.

    • @knecht105
      @knecht105  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +wdfwgagyfgagyga Well congrats for making a chair, these are among the more difficult things to make but it will be an excellent project for you and you will learn a lot. There are a couple of ways to do what you want, you could put the legs on a lathe and just turn the upper parts round, or as you have suggested, make a jig and use a router with a roundover bit.
      The problem with the router solution is that it can be hard to get a tapered round leg that way which I have a hunch you may be wanting. If you are wanting a tapered roundover and you do not have a lathe, the next step will be to slightly taper the upper parts of the legs while they are still square, THEN use the roundover bit.
      Hope this helps ... would love to see some pics of your chair when it is done :)
