    Guess what?! I have started saving up for all my required english tack. I can afford the girth, the stirrups, and the breast plate (not sure if I'll need this so it will be the last thing I buy IF I need it) approximately $1200 to go! Btw I love you hair cut! ;)

      Autumn Strid ah how exciting! Congrats. Ted wears a 5-point breastplate as you’ll see in our videos, but you may not need one as you said, it depends on the horse. Ah thanks! Big chop 😂

    These have been the most helpful equestrian videos I've found so far on TH-cam. I'm 25 and started riding a couple of years ago, I work full time Mon-Fri and I have to travel 40 minutes to get to my yard on a Sunday, so seeing someone else who is in the same position still managing to part loan and care for a horse is really encouraging! I'm currently looking into potentially doing a share when the world is a little less hectic.. but I would love to know how you find balancing your horse/work/social life. Currently the only things really holding me back are my time commitments and sometimes I have to travel to see family, I would be interested to hear how you find it! 😊

      Thank you! I love reading comments like this, I appreciate you taking the time to write it ❤️ it really makes all the hours of work, filming and editing worth it when I read something like this. I would say it’s definitely a challenge to work full time + a share (plus TH-cam!) but if you are just really organised with your time you can definitely do it. It helps that I have owners who will let me charge days if I really can’t do a certain day cos I have an early meeting or whatever (I try not to do it often but it happens). I also have a job with relatively flexible hours, so I can sometimes start at 10am or finish at 4pm depending. I am WFH at the moment but perhaps when I am back working normally I can do a week in my life of how I fit it all in! X

    Thank you! This really helped me! I am (obviously) not looking for a loan or share currently and I would happily stay in my riding school for 10+ more years but the other day my mum said she was looking on a website, just to get an idea of prices e.t.c. As I am not ready yet, she said that I definitely won't be getting one for at least a year, but I'm going to send this video to her now! We're currently just getting a feel for the prices e.t.c. So, thank you for making our situation just that little bit easier!

    Purely my opinion as someone who has been around horses since the sixties and has experienced every type of horse keeping. I would not recommend working livery at a riding school unless you have a water tight agreement. There’s nothing worse than turning up to ride your horse and it’s being used on a lesson when it’s supposed to be at the livery owner’s disposal. It can cause awful arguments and unpleasant outcomes. Invariably the riding school will probably get the better part of the bargain, especially if you own a well mannered schooled horse that can be ridden safely by many pupils. You can stipulate that only the advanced riders may ride your horse, but if you are not present due to work, anything may happen. It’s not free and often the livery owner pays at least half the costs and will get only limited riding.Some owners don’t allow weekends for use of horse as it's their only free time. What are your thoughts? Back in the day in London from where I originate working livery was very common.

    Do you have any advice on finding a horse to share? Finding it really difficult, not many websites!

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Katie! I feel your pain. Not sure if you're based in the UK like me, but I found my mine via a Facebook Group. Some of them have stopped sharing horses for sale due to new facebook rules, but will keep loans and shares going. There are nationwide groups specifically for loans/shares, but I found that regional groups are the best since they will be more locally relevant to you and they tend to be more active, too. Otherwise, i'd also try asking on the Horse and Hound forums - they are more active than you think! If neither of those work, could you try local tack shops or, if you have a riding instructor currently, ask them? Otherwise... years ago I did actually find a horse share by driving round a few livery yards and asking, politely, if anyone knew anyone with a horse share. I was also looking for a part time grooms job at the time and I managed to find both. If that is a bit too intimidating, it's worth asking the local riding school - the community tends to be far reaching at riding schools and someone is bound to know someone!

    • @slou3552
      @slou3552 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks you for your great response 😁 I was actually considering going to some yards (obviously once this covid 19 is all over) but was worried it would look strange! But I have so many yards local their must be a horse for loan somewhere!!

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it's a fine balance. If you present yourself as polite and a genuine person, the worst they can say is no! Worth calling up perhaps as well, as some yard owners may appreciate the heads up or be more comfortable talking on the phone rather than you turning up - i think it depends on the yard :D let me know how you get on!

  • @meganjoss8375
    @meganjoss8375 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What would you say is cheaper?, i was told for loaning you don’t have to pay for vet bills, cause the money you pay is what goes to the vet bills, and I would be using it for other kids in the riding school, also I thought you only had to pay have for your farrier?

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you are talking about Working Livery which happens at riding schools and yes, that’s cheaper. Full loan is the most expensive - you pay for everything, vet bills included. Sharing is cheaper, you pay per month. Here’s a more in depth breakdown of share costs: www.ridingwithrhi.com/blog/how-much-does-part-loaning-cost

    Hi :) you're one of my favourite channels and I realise that this was filmed last year but if you see this then great! I've been riding for a year at a brilliant school, and did a bit of on and off riding before hand but not much (just at a friends yard.) , I brought the conversation up with my parents about part loaning/sharing a horse in our area, they're going to consider it in the next few months. I was just wondering, even though I have done a lot of research before hand, what does part loaning a horse include for myself? So I can weigh up time and everything before i even begin to think about it like it is a real possibility :) I know that every share agreement is different but whats the average deal, if that makes sense?! Thanks if you reply, and Good luck with your new horse in the future!!

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sort of depends but generally speaking on your "share" day (usually 1-3 days a week) you'd usually be responsible for one half of the day's responsibilities, e.g. mucking out, riding, then turning out if you go in the morning or bringing in, riding and putting to bed if it's the evening. Sometimes with a share you might do both ends of the day but this is less usual.

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

  • @zedy33
    @zedy33 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Rhi. Another great video. Question - How do you handle things like holidays and time off with your owners? My understanding is time off notice should be given in good time, sharer still pays even if they're not there? But in your experience does a large chunk of time away really affect the share? Just that I'm trialling a share at the moment (2day a week) and will be away for six weeks in Dec and don't want to disappoint anyone (share isn't even a done deal yet). Any thoughts really welcome :) thanks

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, tricky one. I would tell them upfront before you sign and decide what you want to do £ wise. If they know far in advance they are likely to be more receptive. I have only been away for short periods of time so I would swap my days rather than lose them. If I knew I had a big block like that coming up I think I would try to negotiate a freeze of payment BUT I know that some owners would want you to pay since the horse still needs looking after even if you aren’t riding. I think it depends on your structure of payment and your contract - if you are paying per ride and adding it up to a monthly cost it may be easier to freeze payment than if you pay say for all feed bills or all shoes since those happen whether you are there or not.

    • @zedy33
      @zedy33 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RidingWithRhi thank you for your speedy reply. so helpful and sort of what I thought. I mean, I'd be inclined to keep paying simply because I'd feel bad to leave her in the lurch for such a long time. I have my final trial ride tomorrow so will know if she and I are happy moving forward so will raise it then. hopefully it doesn't jeopardise the share as I already love the horse! haha

    • @RidingWithRhi
      @RidingWithRhi  4 ปีที่แล้ว
