    I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.

    Thanks, Don!!! My SH-55 starts fine. When I rev it up, it achieves full RPMs but then drops about 25%. If I trigger it a few times, it returns to full RPMs and then dies again. I've got the BG-50 that usually takes about 5 - 6 pulls to get it going, but after it's warmed up it's almost impossible to restart. It hasn't been an issue because once I get it going it runs well until the job's done. I am going to turn out the high and low speed screws a bit more to see if that improves starting both when cold and once it gets warm. Great machine regardless. Thanks Don.

      Cherish your older gear! Newer models have been tampered with by the EPA here in the states. The default carb settings are for emissions, not performance, and they require the manufacturer to place a block on the adjustment screws of the carb. Even our fuel cans are required to be defective (no vents and a crappy spout).

    I have the exact same one. I may end up replacing the carburetor on mine also. It runs best partially choked so I think the diaphragm may be getting weak. This is a good video to show how to disassemble it. I find its better to just replace the carburetor anyways. Those cheap Chinese carburetors are NOT worth the money you spend. They go bad in a year.

    • @Urbicide
      @Urbicide 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zama carburetors are made in China. I believe that Stihl either owns Zama outright, or owns a large controlling interest in the company.

    • @scottfirman
      @scottfirman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Urbicide Because of that, they may have a better control on quality. Aftermarket replacement parts are usually seconds or those that didn't pass a quality control check. Others are surplus made fo r someone that went under and are extra stock. They get resold on E-bay. You do not know who they are made for unless they have Zama or another Manufacter stamped on them. This is common practice in China.

I typically get 1-3 seasons with a leaf blower before it seems to be unfixable (I've tried everything other than a full carb replacement) whereas I get 10+ years problem free with string trimmers, edgers, and other gas powered stuff just by changing spark plug annually. I need your help. I own a Stihl BR380 that has very few hours of use. Last week (while running it full throttle for 25-30 minutes) it started to bog down. I dropped the throttle back to idle and it ran perfectly. I increased back to full throttle and after a few seconds it did the same thing. I verified the spark arrestor was clean, verified the air filter was clean, verified the gas filter was clean, replaced the spark plug (old one looked normal), also when it started losing RPM I took off the gas tank cap to see if that would help. I am at a loss. When cold, it starts up like it always has. Couple of pulls. I use only nonethanol fuel and Bel-Ray full synthetic 2-stroke oil. Your thoughts? Any suggestion(s) will be greatly appreciated.

    Could have made 3 second video that stated ‘buy a new carb the same price as another used stihl blower’

    Don, are concentrator nozzles really needed on hand-held units to create back pressure (load) for the motor? Do backpack models have them, or need them?

    What is the expected compression on a handheld leaf blower if you suspect worn rings?

    • @spiercevaughn
      @spiercevaughn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      09hoseclamp theres not a number you can just expect. It will depend on how worn the rings are, or what causes it to wear in the first place, and how long they have been wearing at an accelerated rate due to damage in the first place. You can get a compression tested for fairly inexpensive online or rent on from a auto parts store.
