Very good ! I stand on my bathroom scales holding the gas canister to work out its weight! Simple stupid works for me 😂
🤣🤣🤣 Thats an awesome idea! Thanks for watching!
Been looking at vids specifically regarding changing these bottles...... however they only mention the valve being off but not demonstrating..... you are the first to do so and I'm so glad...... I would have thought that turning the valve off would be anticlockwise..... but no it's clockwise. Thank you
Thanks Susan! Glad it was helpful!
Why? Do your kitchen taps turn off anti-clockwise? No, of course not.
That was useful information as a new van owner. Should have known because that's how I check the gas cylinders on the life jackets 😄 Thank you and you have a nerw subscriber!
Thanks Douglas! Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic. just the thing I was looking for. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful! Appreciated.
Very good tip - checked the description for the link to the weight chart (I have the same cannister as you no link will Google!). was actually trying to find out if I could disconnect the gas bottle from the regulator to connect to an outside stove without losing a lot of our gas in the middle. Seeing your weighing technique answered that one. Does a valve stop loss before the handle is attached or do you need to be quick with the handle to prevent loss? I've only ever disconnected them when empty but would be very useful if we found we could take the gas out of the van to use with the stove when the weather suits it or we're cooking something smelly!
Hi Iain, thanks for subscribing! I noticed you follow a lot of the same channels as me! Scotlands Mountains, Travel Beans, and I actually know Shaf Rasul! Anyway, to answer your question, I cant detect any loss of gas during the change over. It must self seal when you unscrew it. I was looking at Cadak BBQ's recently with the same idea - I definitely don't want to be carrying two bottles around! Hope you enjoy our videos, new one on France I'm working on right now, and I'm heading to the Scottish Campervan show in Edinburgh tomorrow and will Vlog that too! Thanks for pointing out I missed the link, I've added that now!
That's really simple. Where did you get that weight chart from and do they have charts for other bottles as well? My caravan uses Calor Gas Propane bottles.
Hey Chris, I googled it after hearing about this method. Maybe Google the name of your cannister and weight chart and see what comes up. Really handy tip isn't it! Let me know how you get on?
Hi, Just started following you , after just buying a VW 6.1 so all very informative.
just one question for your opinion on nthe gas bottle, i have just bbought a second bottle as a spare to take with me on trips, do you think it is safe to do this as long as it is well straped in?
Cheers Denis.
Thanks for subscribing Denis! Personally I wouldnt, but others do. My main concern would be if there was a leak. My gas bottle is located in a gas safe cabinet which has a special vent at the bottom to let gas escape out of the bottom of the van if it leaks, and is otherwise air tight. Theres no way for my family to be harmed that way. If you had two gas lockers properly vented this would be fine.
@@ScottishVanTrips ok thanks for that.
Hi
I have recently bought a T6 and use the same size of gas bottle (Blue - Butane).
We plan on going on winter trips and noticed you do this too.
Do you keep the gas tank in the locker over winter and have you had any issues?
Freezing / lack of vapour?
Thanks
C
Thanks for watching, if you see one of our first videos we went out in like -7 and didn't have any issues at all. I do have a diesel heater though and the interior was kept warm, so I'm sure the gas cannister must have been well above freezing.
Thanks
Did you just leave canister in van all winter?
Yes, didn't have a problem with it.
Where can I purchase the gas chart, that gives percentage full based upon weight of gas bottle
Hi Thomas, I just googled it and loads of images popped up.
