hey Bo, for some reason you disappear from my youtube feed almost two year ago, I can see it because I have all your videos prior to the one on the AER city Pack Pro and none after that. I even thought you have stop posting videos. So weird! Well happy you came back to my feed, and great job as I remembered.
Hey. Thanks for coming back to the channel. Really weird that TH-cam shadow banned me from your feed. But I am happy that you found my channel again and I hope that you like the new style of my videos.
Totally enjoyed seeing your workouts along with the exhaustive review of both bags! Seeing your belongings put into both bags as you did, I have not seen before, brilliant. I like the Blackember better as well than the Bellroy, but man, that Bellroy is an amazing bag!! Thanks great job!
Great video Bo, thank you for taking the time to pack & re-pack everything twice haha. Bellroy all the way in my case, not only because I've litterarly just bought this same bag (only in clay colour) but also because I simply think it's more practical for my many needs. Right now I'll be using my bag for gym and commuting to work, but as soon as I'm on tour again, it'll be storing loads of my music accessories. Cheers!
Great video! Length of video is thoroughly engaging! I went with the Black Ember and pack super light weight, but agree on your decision. Keep up the awesome content!
These long videos are fun to watch. It's like just hanging out with a friend and listening to them. I like the black ember among these 2 but personally I've been a big fan of goruck and would probably go with a GR2 if I was in your shoes. Will you be making videos while in Thailand? Certainly hope so!
Thank you very much. Yes, I will create some videos in Thailand. Not sure yet what kind of videos and how many. On one hand I want to get some vacation, but on the other hand my mind is always set on creating some videos. Let's see.
That's true. But I like to move my legs around as much as possible. and I would get annoyed by having to wiggle the bag around just to move my legs tbh.
@@Youknowthebo i dont understand why you would need to move the bag around? it should be resting against the base of your own seat, behind your heels, more or less below your own body. it wont impede your movement, unless the bag is extremely wide
Great video and comparison, helps really to get to know these 2 interesting bags. Even the Blackember seems and looks better, as Caryy-On the lower weight of the Bellboy makes me probably get the Bellboy as next backpack. What I do is when traveling carry on only to have light and small socks/underwear from Uniqlo what helps to reduce bulk and weight in my backpacks.
Great review! I'm really interested in the Forge as an EDC for work, especially with the messenger format. I watched one of your other reviews of the Black Ember Kompak that had a tonne of link/dirt that was attracted to the material. Is this the same materials as the 2nd generation Forge? I'm worried that the pack will look dirty when I turn up to meetings. In backpack mode, what do you think of the Forge as an EDC? Can it replace great backpack like the AER City Pack Pro? Lastly, another hybrid I liked was the AER Flight Pack 3 (20L). The Forge seems to win out because its expendable to 30L. Whats your thoughts? So many options out there! :-)
I really like the aesthetics of the black ember. That was a big reason on why I ended up getting it. There is quite a bit going on but over time I got use to it and it’s been a solid bag for me
That's a good idea. But if the rain cover isn't attached properly or just doesn't fit right, there might be a chance that it is more of a hassle than a benefit.
Great video! Just out of interest, how do you carry your water bottle? I have heard you say before that you are not a big fan of external water bottle pockets...
Thank you very much. Yes, I usually don't like external water bottles. But I just recently bought a Larq water bottle for the Thailand trip. I probably will hang it with a hero clip to the top grab handle
The main reason I never consider the Forge is the weight. Love that styling, though. I don't mind the longer videos. I just break them up to watch over a couple days.
Thanks, Wiliam. Yeah, the higher weight is definitely a concern. So I probably will only use it for EDC or traveling when weight isn't that much of a concern (eg. Train or car)
Hi Bo, me again. I can understand size limits, but I love how the airlines are now placing weight restrictions on hand baggage as a revenue-raising racket. If it really was an issue about weight, then why would a small passenger weighing 55kg pay the same for their ticket as a huge bloke weighing 100kg? They should charge based on the total weight of the passenger plus carry-on. Personally although it looks totally uncool, I wear one of those fishing vests with loads of pockets and put the heavy stuff in that 🙂
That's a very valid consideration that probably is very difficult to put into practice. As I only weigh 67kg I probably could be allowed to carry some more weight 😅 The fishing vest is a cool idea. But the flight is already very uncomfortable and exhausting. Not sure if I would want to deal with that tbh
Hi. That's a good question. I know that you can fit a MacBook. But that is pretty thin compared to most gaming laptops that I have seen. So unfortunately I can't answer this question, because there are so many different gaming laptop sizes.
With the Bellroy is fully loaded, the back of the pack is round. This pack is missing some structure to make it comfortable when loaded at the maximum. Both also miss an external water bottle or wet umbrella.
Yeah, there is definitely some structure missing. But I guess that is a tradeoff of it being very lightweight. I don't really like waterbottle pockets. However, I just bought a larq bottle and It would be nice to store it outside.
Those small carabiners from nite ize can help with locking those pockets. It's not a lock but a pain to open when you "locked" it. I tend to use those on my bags. A lock is kinda useless with these type of bags so I don't bother with them. And also you really don't notice those carabiners. And why are you surprised? The forge has the volume separated over so many compartments. It always loses a lot of volume that way. Also way too heavy.
Good idea. I have a bunch of lockable s-biners. Maybe "surprised" was the wrong word. I had a wishful thought of the Blackember not being that much heavier. But you are right: It was to be expected that the Blackember is much heavier than the Bellroy

Thanks for the positive feedback. Appreciate it

I’ve been really enjoying my Bellroy sling since hearing about their bags on this channel
That's great. Thanks for watching and commenting.

33:56 after takeoff, you can grab the bag from under the seat and put it behind your own legs, on its side. this will give you the legroom back 😊

51 mins. Let this man cook. 🔥
haha. Thanks. Hope you liked the video

Yeah. the look is amazing. totally agree.
Hello. Did you consider using a rain cover to also hide the pockets and protect the bellroy bag in the bin? It could work.
That's a good idea. But if the rain cover isn't attached properly or just doesn't fit right, there might be a chance that it is more of a hassle than a benefit.

Hi Bo. Can you compare the weight of the new and old forge?
Unfortunately, I don't have the old version anymore. Didn't make sense for me to keep both, so I can't compare the weight. Sorry

Think the bellroy lite travel 30l can fit a 16" gaming laptop?
