    I grew up in Dalton, GA just south of Chattanooga and I prowled all over that area in Jasper. I fished Nickajack lake hundreds of times while growing up. Camped in the same camp ground you stayed at many times. Fished all over the TVA lakes in AL, GA, TN, KY & NC. There are many places you can go to camp in that area that are simply beautiful. I hope you had a great time there and thanks for bringing back a lot of good memories.

      You're most welcome James! A fisherman named "Bass" -- go figure. 😁 We're thrilled that we could bring you back there, and we look forward to exploring the area more thoroughly the next time we pass through.

    2400' seems like a hill. :) One thing that bugs me, is viewers leaving comments like, "Why do you need internet??? That's not what camping is all about!!!" Weekend warriors. Great video.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Janet! Yes, 2400 is a hill, but when the surrounding valleys are barely above sea level the prominence is rather significant for the region. And so true about the Internet, there's a marked difference between weekend camping and essentially living out of an RV, especially when you're working.

    Alright alright alright....ready for the show, Marc. We just returned home today from 3 days at Little Arrow CG in Townsend. We never left the campground. Swam a lot in the river and did some grilling. Crossed over Lookout Mtn on the way home.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blake, sometimes those are the best trips, just hanging at camp -- especially when camp has so much to offer like along the Little River in Townsend. You'll find in a couple of weeks we did the same in our episode from Table Rock Lake near MO -- and liked it so much that we stayed on to keep doing it for a second week.

    How cool that is in 3 states. Please continue to give the history and interesting facts. Love it. Wow. That gorge is amazing. State parks offer so much. 600! Reminds me of Tallulah Falls in Georgia. I do love waterfalls. I’m surprised it wasn’t more crowded. Boardwalks make me smile. Oooh. Can you walk behind that fall? I love that channel. Great campground tours. That is an awesome view. What a treat after a hike. Beautiful campground but I understand the problem with upload speed. But cool they refunded. Another beautiful campground. We miss having our own canoe. Being on the water is the best. Those caves look amazing. But the cost and how they made it less natural would bother me. Now that’s a waterfall. Wow. The dyrt looks like a great app. Great video. Alice

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate it Alice! Funny that you mentioned Tallulah Falls, that was where we were planning to go but couldn't get a spot, so we diverted to Cloudland instead.
      The hikes definitely had people on them but it wasn't difficult to get shots without people. We also went to the waterfalls fairly early, ahead of most folks, and kept motoring as we had to meet the Bradshaw clan by 11 on the opposite rim of the canyon. The campgrounds, however, were full to capacity.
      To get back out on the water, why not pick up a pair of small, cheap recreational kayaks? They're easy to transport, too.
      Thank you for your comments and viewership, as always!

    Just watched this again. I grew up in Chattanooga and both grandmothers lived in Jasper, so I drove by that campground more times than I can count as a kid but have never been there. The fun kayak paddle on Nickajack lake is the nighttime paddle to a cave and watch the bats come out. Not an outdoor attraction but every camper has some cast iron pans. Marion County is home of Lodge Cast Iron. If you need new pans, there's an outlet.
    You are right about Ruby Falls, very underwhelming, Rock City is a better tourist trap. Best part of Lookout Mountain is Point Park, civil war memorial at the top. You can stand on the spot General Grant stood. The must do in that area is riding your bike in Chickamauga Battle Field in GA.
    Next time in the Chattanooga area, one of the best campgrounds is in Hixson/Middle Valley area of Chattanooga (North of Chattanooga) called Chester Frost Park. It's a county park, on the Chickamauga lake. They now have pro fishing tournaments on that lake.
    Other areas for fun stuff to look into when in the Chattanooga area: Prentiss Cooper State Forest, Enterprise South park, kayak South Chickamauga creek (Lots of stuff named Chickamauga in Chattanooga), Raccoon Mountain, raft the Ocoee.

    Love your videos. We've enjoyed many of the same places. One however was terrible. Marion County park in May 2017 was a mess. Poor mgmt. Staff mowing did damage to our RV, claimed City of Jasper would make it right. Month later all denied claims. Just hope the park has new management! We now stay at Chester Frost in Hixson. We might swing by Cloudland in route to other area of N. Georgia. How would you say the hike is to falls (difficulty/time)? Also they way you explained it seems one fall is on the way to second fall as fall 1 is partially into canyon?

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Evan, that's exactly how it's laid out. Visiting both falls and returning to the rim took me about an hour, but I was hustling to get over to the West Rim to hook up with the Bradshaws for our hike. Everyone I saw I passed (and paid for it later).

    Very nice review of that area. Those mountains are nothing to sneeze at. They are more dramatic than those around Cumberland Gap area where the Tristate Center bears the junction of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virgina.

    I have come to the conclusion that my home state of Florida needs to up its game to compete with Georgia’s state parks. I love my state and it’s natural wonders but I’m afraid with our tourism based economy and a global pandemic the decay of our state parks will get worse before they get better. I may just be in a funk and need to get out on the road again.
