I know. I’m envious. My parents were abusive n neglectful in childhood & adulthood. And life is so bleak & bitter, never feeling Cozy supported, unless I feel Gods presence. I always wonder how adults like him are so calm, hopeful & lighthearted. Your estimation makes sense.
Hi Sam! First time commenting , everything is coming along. I also cannot wait for the launch. And BTW your previous single hand sailing adventures are so awesome! Short story I'm 49 and have Aspergers . That being said I used to live ona 29' Bayfield pocket crusier 27 years ago and it was the one time in my life I felt no pressure. Living with Aspergers everything I do socially takes some much effort that being alone doing my own thing with the pugs is better. I would live to live on a boat again but I am a broken man. My bacd has really bad arthritis and several bulging disks so out of the question. I will live vicariously through your videos when it comes to sailing . Thank you for taking me away from my anxieties for little over 15 min( including time to type this out) Have fun tomorrow!!!
Wow Sam looking good and the anticipation for the launch sure is building. Your Mom is quite handy as well as your Dad. No wonder you have such talent and an can do attitude. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Sam I've had a compost toilet for 20 years. I buy a big brick of compressed peat moss (gardening style)and a brick of compressed pine shavings (hamster bedding). I then crush some of each with my hand and mix the two in a separate container I keep by the head.I spray the turd with "Compost Quick by Sun-Mar" It promotes Aerobic bacteria growth. Then sprinkle 1/4 to 1/3 cup of my dry mixture on it. I empty 3/4 of my toilet once per year. I don't throw toilet paper into it. Mix it to help it breath. It all turns to pure potting soil. No smell from it.
Sam…your issue with the Ryobi battery charger… Could it be that your power inverter is not a true sine-wave, but pulsed square-wave? Try connecting the Ryobi battery charger closer to your power converter… you may be picking up your electrical noise. Best wishes! Tim
It’s been really cool to see the process, time, and effort put into things, before actually sailing. Really great videos since you bought your shop. Safe sailing buddy.
AWESOME Post - Congratulations! Your Mother is a Great Lady and the composite bolt rack was a great tip for DIYers. The compost head is brilliant and well done as the usual for you in everything you do from roof tops to dodgers and canvas. You are First Rate! So happy you are getting back on the water!
A guy was mentioning a cooling fan for your charging box that would be a good idea but I think some ventilation would be important also so it does not overheat inside the box if it's waterproof that way electronics parts don't explode inside the box maybe causing a fire need some place for the air to go when the van is on anyway to exit anyway it's coming along really fine Sam can't wait to see it on lunch day well I do have to wait I guess when you're ready to film it LOL anyway be safe God bless you. From Ray Garrett Roseville California USA
So happy to see all the progress! Looking forward to keeping track of you as you make your way east across the Atlantic. Similar to SV delos, how you can track them on their website.
I have to comment! Spreading out fiberglass or plastic body filler, bondo, goes so much better with a plastic spreader. The smoother you can spread it, the less sanding you have to do. Less waste too. Ideally you don’t want to have to sand hardly any.
Sam, amazing how everything is coming along! One little piece of advice regarding 3d prints: They're very porous!!! (even if you don't see it) If you plan to use it for water/pee try spraying the part with some plastic primer first, and over that some acrylic spray paint. It's going to last forever that way. And no funny things are going to grow inside :) Cheers!
The one with the green USB plug is a QuickCharge 3.0 charger for supported device but it only outputs 5V/1A for non-supported device (eg. iPhone, iPad). . USB sleep-and-charge ports are often yellow, orange, or red. These ports can charge phones or electronic devices even when the computer is switched off.
Oh Sam thanks for sharing all of this . Your boat is stunning (I really like the color by the way !), your refit is ab fab , your determination and your skills are really impressive. this launch was a blast to watch . Victor. 1972 Cal 29.
For your light to work, bleed the air out of it. After filling with butane, press the fill tube of the light to remove air. Add more butane and repeat. Then purge again..Just a little the second time. Allow the butane to come to room temp..5 minutes and then it will allows work. Do this each time you real the lighter. Cheers.
Hi Sam. Did you know you should screw the roof parts to the roof on the high part of the sheet? Otherwise it will leak in the long run. The water runs in the groove so that's why you shouldnt screw it there. Maybe a bit late but better late than never. Otherwise very cool!
Low tech meets high tech. Great job Sam. You sure get a lot done. I know it's early but looking forward to hearing your route plans. Have made many solo single engine airplane crossings to Europe, but never on a boat. Always departed St Johns Newfoundland.
When are you going to do your food shopping?? You're really multi-talented with all these projects. Can you feel the anticipation building to departure date?? Will you send us vids from your trip via internet satelite??
Hey Sam. Love your videos. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always heard it's dangerous to charge lithium batteries in an enclosed space like a box because they release flammable gases
Hi Sam, going good i see!! good help too! About the toilet/urine holder. I'm afraid that the wide low box model is not the best shape. Even with the lid on it It undersail and waves? Maybe a used 2 liter motoroil can, but thats maybe too high. 3D printed a bit shorter funnel, and a taller, piramid/ l shape style container? You could make funnel and container out of one piece. Just click in and go:)) good luck with the projects!
Bit late to this party, but you probably need to clean the print bed. It's accumulating oils from handling and you need to get them off every now and then. Wipe it down really well with Isopropanol and then and it will stick better.
Really liked the charging box idea. This caused me to think: Change this out for a steel tool box (pawn shop). If a battery or charger burns-up, the box will contain it.
Hey Sam, do you have any before and after photos of your projects? Your head area has a ton of work, would love to see the comparison (other parts too, not just the toilet haha).
put some nail polish around the zinc screws; that is thinnest part and will cause zincs to 'fail' even though the body has lots of life left.. diver gave me that tip....
Hey Sam. Love your style and your nonchalant positive attitude. I live on an old 40 foot Kevlar offshore race boat. Been slowly restoring it. I like how you share your story. What camera is your favorite for documenting lifestyle/ experiences?
Sam, What is the launch date for your Atlantic crossing? Do you expect any trouble with your communications during your crossing? In case I miss your departure be safe and best of wishes. 🙏⛵
Probably too late, but you should hit those zincs with a hammer and tighten the bejezus out of those screws. Those zincs tend to come loose rather quickly if not as tight as you can make them. Then they are are a PIA to deal with.
I have seen many of your videos and enjoy watching you do stuff I will never get to do. Suggestion - think about doing voice over instead of talking while working, which stops the flow. It might just be easier for you as well, as in focusing on the work/shot alone instead of describing and doing it all at the same time. This will also make it easier to watch, as the vids feel chopped up - work in between talking. Voice over during editing after the task is done, will make your vids more professional and easier to watch. Cheers
A lot of loose ends, I'm getting dizzy with all the spinning around ... Electronics charging was waterproof until you screwed it down, making more holes like your hull... Your dad may not want to be on camera, like a lot of people...
@@samholmessailing number one , don’t drop them. Number two , when they get low on fuel , use a tiny screwdriver or something to purge the tank comepletly empty . Keep repeating till there is not a hint of a hiss left . Then just fill as normal , upside down with the corresponding nozzle 3 to 5 seconds fills most normal jet lighters
I absolutely love how involved your mom and dad are in your adult life! It’s no wonder why you are such an amazing and kind man, Sam.

your 3d printer is the bomb. i'm looking forward to see you sail.
The Herring is almost ready to be put back in the water. So exited for You.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who comes up just short enough, to make me take ANOTHER trip to hardware store.

Yes via satellite, because you just can't abandon us and leave us hanging.
data cost to send video by satellite will be VERY high
Regarding food, I've started dehydrating a lot of fruit for his voyage.
You have a cool mom :)
We're getting pretty excited for your launch Sam.
So excited to see this journey! I want to cross the ocean in a sailboat too!

You need a cooling fan for that charging box
Something to transfer heat from inside of the box to outside, at the same time keeping the inside separated of the moist salty ocean air.
The two green USB ports put out more current than the orange ones.
lol i like that he does not spend the 3 days sanding it nor would i good call :)
Nice folks. Sam's Boat Yard.
Always great and many thanks 😊
Boxed wine people. Another reason to love the channel.

Haha I was watching you spray that foam on the last video and I was like... Crap no no no
as always, excellent video. Hyped for launch day!
If you lined your battery charger box with heavy aluminum foil it would work as a Farraday cage during an electrical storm.
Tell Ryobi I switched to their power tools because of your videos!
Big Daddy Sam almost ready to hit the waters this is exciting!!!😇❤️😇
Great job can't wait to see you in the water do you have a line cutter on your prop cheers
Such beautiful country side
12:17 magic batteryless drill, future technology!
Stoked for ya!
Ya!
Whenever he is working on his boat below the deck, it looks like he is in the upside down from Stranger Things
slap some paint on it and we can go sailing tomorrow!
Sam,
What is the launch date for your Atlantic crossing? Do you expect any trouble with your communications during your crossing? In case I miss your departure be safe and best of wishes. 🙏⛵
Good luck! When do you leave on the trip!?
Your parents are lovely!
They are!
I misread the title, I thought it said "Prepping for lunch day". 😆😆
You think another 'backing plate' on top the stacks of washers before the nuts would make it stronger ?
Wow the most dangerous thing I've ever seen or done is been on a wet metal roof

Is your ryobi battery charger 120vac or 12vdc? How has that charger box worked for you? Thanks
What are you installing to convert UK/Europe shore power to your US wired boat?
Sam they make boots for pipes will last a long time for the roof.......
I’m stoked
keep yur loaves of bread fresh in that orange charging box thingy
I too have expanded my Ryobi set because of Sam. Ryobi? Where are you?
That AC won't come close to cooling your entire space but it will freeze you out if you can duct the cold air into a sleeping bag or under a cover.
How do u know??
Can I purchase on of your urine diverters? I’m building a composting toilet as well. Thanks
You should try and go live for like an hour while ur out there sailing
@Ryobi where u at???
I agree; it is good to not have like pokey things and hairs in one's head.
Your parents are awesome. Does your brother get this much attention 😂?
Get flat piece of tin, bend yourself for ridge cap. Battery charging box need to let heat out?
What software do you use to draft your models?
I have seen many of your videos and enjoy watching you do stuff I will never get to do.

How does it feel to do the total rebuild with your right hand?
Screws have a pretty low sheer strength. You might want to make sure you are using some outdoor framing screws for the pipe berth.
Wonderful family
Not sure about the climate down there but I would think you would want to vent your roof more? Idk, not trying to troll just curious
A lot of loose ends, I'm getting dizzy with all the spinning around ...
Electronics charging was waterproof
until you screwed it down,
making more holes
like your hull...
Your dad may not want to be
on camera,
like a lot of people...

Dude! I'll teach you how to keep your lighters going. There 's a simple trick to it. They dont tel you when you buy one.
How?

questionable toilet
You 30 toilets in the shop and you built a new toilet?
Uncapped live wires in your box?
Sounds like you watch Sail Life lol
A pee-tube (PT?) must ALSO have the right color to work ...
You work the way I do.......chaotically.......
Make sure not to overheat lithium battery when charging, so good ventilation is essential. Good job.
