The model of the camp was pretty cool. The down hill side is always good! 😂 Those old pictures are amazing. Nice to see an old building being restored instead of destroyed! Scary place for a dart board Dan! I remember those old ice boxes on the old farm stead. Teddy bothering a porcupine up the tree was a cool shot! Thanks for the tour!
Ya know, I must’ve passed by this place a hundred times when I’d take a day trip on the motorcycle, then I finally decided to check it out. I fell in love with it immediately! I’ve been back there at least once a month and camped there four times now. There’s 8 primitive camp sights and two lean-to’s that are free to use. And those canoes you saw? They’re free to use on the lake, isn’t that cool? Oh, there’s one thing that I don’t think I showed, it’s the room where they kept all of their hams and stuff, you can still smell the aroma of bacon in there! It must’ve permeated the wood, that or somebody goes in there every now and then, and smears bacon grease on the shelves! 🤣🤣 I’m really glad you enjoyed it, I know how you like exploring abandoned things🤣
@@onlocationwithscott Back in “75” it was bought by NY state, it was ALMOST torn down. This was when NY was on their “Forever Wild” kick. Any land acquired by the state was returned to nature and any structures were removed. People in the Adirondacks petitioned the Governor to turn it into a preserve so the camp could be saved. It’s the only publicly owned Great Camp in the Adirondacks, all the others are privately owned, like the Sagamore which was built for the Vanderbilts and Camp Uncas , which belonged to J.P. Morgan.
must be cool to explore on your own, almost feels like it should be roped off and guide led. I also cant help but feel that with some creative costumes, you can make some pretty cool videos there. Nice video Dan.
Yeah, it was pretty cool! They do have guided tours and I got a short tour by one of the interns there. He’s the one who showed me the two photos of Roosevelt, the dart board, the walk in cooler and the panes of glass with the initials etched in. I told him about possibly flying the drone there and he said that the Rangers never come back there, so next time…….😁 Great idea about the costumes, maybe on Halloween in period costumes. I don’t think that they really have to worry about any vandalism, it’s ab5 mile hike back there and I don’t envision any hooligans hauling beer all the way in just to party🤣🤣 It’s a great place for a family bike ride, something to think about if you all ever make a trip east!
Hey Stevie👋 Yeah, it was pretty cool all by myself! There were two interns there when I first got there and they said that anyone could use the canoes, ya never see that anywhere’s. Funny that you mentioned hearing something, it just might be haunted. The original family sold the place in 1953 and in 1971, the 9 year old grandson of one of the new owners got lost in the woods and was never found. I have to go through all of my footage and see if there might be a little boy in the background. Oooo spooky 👻 I’m definitely going back with my drone, and maybe a Ouija board 👻🤣
Hi Barbara👋 The first four miles is a gentle grade mostly, with one steep downhill in the last mile. Of course on the way out is a steep uphill, but then it’s all downhill from there!😄 Families with little ones ride in there on bikes all the time. Thanks for watching and the kind words, I’m glad you enjoyed it👍

@@UncleDan58 I think the coolest thing is that it remains open to use anytime!

Great hike vlog, Dan. I can't believe you got it to yourself. It's strange, I could hear someone playing darts while you were in there 🎯😀👍🍻

Chicken! Hahahaha!
@@UncleDan58 yup 🐔😂😂
Excellent video and commentary! Is it a reasonably “easy” hike other than being 5 miles? Thanks for posting!

Oh, and I learned that at a certain age, one tends to release unexpectedly when over pressurized 💨 😳
@@UncleDan58 No worries...my granddaughters put me to shame all the time.
