    愛「車」,音:居
    (成語「車水馬龍」的車,是讀“居”; 又如,「將軍抽車」的車,亦是讀“居”)

    • @TommyHoLA
      @TommyHoLA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      我做了少少的研究,在這個情況,我覺得車、居也可以。心愛的汽車就是愛車吧?在特定情況中,車應讀成居,但例如「翻車」,你不會讀成翻居;杯水車薪,都不會是杯水居薪吧?

    訊息誤導羣衆!移民美國首要考慮是年齡,語文程度和專業技能。開州際卡車可以年薪十多萬美元,但普通快餐飲食業在大城市卻只有五萬左右,還要交個人入息稅和醫療保險。是否適合移民要視乎個人適應能力,每年能夠支付十三萬開支的是中產專業人士,不是一般勞動階層。

    • @TommyHoLA
      @TommyHoLA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      如果有一定資產值,例如一千幾百萬,又何必看年齡、語言能力、工作機會和收入呢?而美國的「中產人士」的範圍很廣,視乎所居住的地方,就算年收六位數,都可能是夾心階層。在洛杉磯能花上十三萬一年的家庭,比比皆是。

    • @TommyHoLA
      @TommyHoLA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      補助都唔係每一個都唔申請得嘅,好視乎申請人嘅情況。而所謂影響入籍,其實係好多情況下,都係人對福利制度嘅誤解嚟,有機會我就講下依個話題。不過,絕大部份新移民根本就拎唔到補助,因為一係就做緊野,一係就有資產,都係努力啲做野把啦😆😆。

    Your data doesn’t make sense
    Avg American income is only 65k

    • @TommyHoLA
      @TommyHoLA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Making an “average” income doesn’t necessarily mean you are in the “middle class.” A 65k income for a family of 4 in a Los Angeles is hardly a middle class, but rather near the high-end of what I consider a “lower class.” Read this on New York Times:
      www.nytimes.com/2019/10/08/us/what-is-middle-class-in-california.html
      Of course in this video I assumed you would have to pay for your own health insurance, which most companies offer for cheap. My other video explains how the same family of 4 lives on an 80k budget.

    A middle class only means the income, not really means the expenses, because, if a family has a house, not rental, then, with mortgage interest deduction and not buying new cars, would be much lower expenses than new car owners and renters. Not taking PTO with trips and save money reduce the expenses further. I saved money this way and I can save over 1 mil in 20 years and I have 2 houses now.
    Not to live beyond your mean is the key to live a better future.
    Otherwise, one have to live paycheck by paycheck till retirement with no money to retire.

    • @TommyHoLA
      @TommyHoLA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think everyone should make their own decisions of how to enjoy life. I agree with what you said about living below means, but I wouldn’t judge those who are living paycheck to paycheck. That’s their own decisions. Some might say one can’t bring money to heaven, so why save when you can enjoy the moment? YOLO😆😆!

    As a long time resident of Los Angeles I like to say a few words for I have been here most of my life. I came here as a young kid since 1947
    And I’m now 85 years old. I think you have over blow the cost of living expense that might discourage the new immigrants of their intentions
    Who try to settle down here in Los Angeles. First of all as new immigrants you really don’t have to pick Redondo Beach because it’s a high rent
    Area especially you have English problem, you should pick an area that fits your budget. My youngest daughter living in Redondo Beach and owns
    Two houses and renting the other 3 bedrooms for only $3250 per month and located close to the beach. The point is for new immigrants that’s
    Not an ideal place for them when you are not fluent in English. Especially if you are coming from HongKong you have to adopt the living style here
    And don’t ever think hiring a house keeper and have to do all the house work by yourself from now on. I raised three daughters and they are all
    With college degrees with good paying jobs and they were all American born, (ABC). And their mother was from HK whom I married when I was
    In the U.S.Army in Korea, and that was more than 60 years ago. What I like to say to the new immigrants is work hard like I was as a kid after school
    I sell newspapers on the street corners and work in a Chinese restaurant over the weekends as busboy and later waiter. I retired 26 years ago as a
    Banker of 38 years, 16 years in a major bank and 23 years in a Chinese American Bank as a loan officer. If I can do it, so can you !

    • @johnchan6664
      @johnchan6664 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mr. Ung, good old days selling newspapers on the street and work as bus boy on weekend days are gone. Who is going to hire you just for the weekend unless the boss is your parents. If new immigrants stay in China town area, they will never learn the real English. Have you seen how many foreigners in Alhambra, Monterey Park and San Gabriel school districts. They all speak and read Chinese. How are you going to be able to communicate once you are out of China town. People wants to come here for a better life as they thought when they are in Hong Kong, they think USA is land of opportunity, right. This is the same thinking in the 70s that China people think gold is everywhere in Hong Kong. Now, this is 2021, wake up and smell the roses. For the smarter families, they remain in Hong Kong and send their kids north to china for better universities opportunities. That is where the growth will be in the next half century. You already retired, you already got your retirement figured out, but the new generation with little English experiences will be no match for the locals. And don't forget we have yellow color and black hair !!! By the way, in the future years, why should city of Hong Kong be treated any different than other cities in China ? From history books, Hong Kong got screwed by the eight countries who invaded China, but hey, that's before we were born, tough !!! But going forward, people in China and Hong Kong will all be treated the same. Therefore, while Hong Kong still has what ever left as advantages, they should move on and stop burn our own city of Hong Kong.

    • @TommyHoLA
      @TommyHoLA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow that’s an amazing story of you! I can only imagine how difficult life was in your times moving to a different country. In contrast, people nowadays are so fortunate to have all the resources they need, without having to figure out what their next move is.
      To be honest with you, I wasn’t trying to scare people away by giving those numbers, which I believe accurately reflect what I envision as a “middle class” lifestyle here in LA. I have coworkers and friends who live well beyond those numbers, and some sadly live paycheck to paycheck. The way I see it is how many Hongkongers already enjoy an inflated lifestyle, and I do not believe it is reasonable to ask them to make any sacrifice after moving here. Of course in reality they will have to regardless, but that’s something they need to figure out on their own. I made two follow-up episodes detailing money-saving tips and social benefits here:
      一家四口年省36萬港幣 開支一覽 【第2集 節儉中產】 th-cam.com/video/2f4JfyVa5sI/w-d-xo.html
      領取政府福利 補助 一家四口 【第3集 低收入】th-cam.com/video/G9EM3ckpNsI/w-d-xo.html

      @TommyHoLA  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnchan6664 John, there are still a lot of part time work opportunities nowadays, they are just not as old-school as busboys and paperboys. There are Uber, Lyft, Postmates and the like (which I will go over some episode down the road haha). But of course you bought up a very good point-immigrants need to beef up their English skills living in an English-speaking country, or else they will forever be a second class citizen.
      While I might not agree 100% with you politically, I do believe Hongkongers need to face the reality. Hong Kong will not receive the same level of attention as it used to.

      Unless innigrants have millions of US dollars before coming to US, they should not really be spending a lot of nomey with expensive rental and buying new cars in resort style of living. Only two family members both have above 12k each, can afford 2 new cars and high rental cost if they still plan to save money to buy a house

    Hi
    I think, in LA, if one came before 2008, houses were still affordable by then, and you still can buy a house for about 500 K to 600 K, but now, it is about 850 K now, much more higher.
    I brought my first house in 2003 for 350 K and my second house for 980k in 2017.
    If one has brought the first house, it is easier to buy the second house.
    I never buy new cars.
    Never take PTO for past 20 years. Only paid some one to mow the lawn once. Never paid to wash car. Never pay for hotel or motel after 30 years old.
    Except, I went travelling before I became 30, Malaysia, HK, S America, when I was young.
    May be, this is not the life style many people wants, but it works for me.

      Yes the Los Angeles housing market has been on a steady rise since the 08 housing bubble, and investing in real estate is almost always a good idea. It takes a lot of sacrifice to be a homeowner, especially during the first few years. Hope you can inspire others to follow your path!!
